Gary Sykes v Jon Kay's

Post by JamieM »

Been confirmed and going to be in dewsbury, gutted for Troy James who has been overlooked after fighting an eliminator and Kay's took even after Sykes beating
Him quite comfortably 2 fights or so ago, good luck to both men but Sykes will win them vacate.

We ( Team Troy ) are gutted, we was in the running along with Kays but unfortunately for us they chose Kays so the promoter could pass Kays English Title on to one of his own young fighters, politics hey

We wish both Team Sykes & Team Kays all the very best, & hope they have a safe, great fight.

Hopefully we will be next in line for a shot after this fight has surely we can't be ignored/avoided for the title for much longer without some intervention or a chance of some sort from somewhere.

Yeah billy for the vacant British, the whole
Issue with smith and the Walsh injuries making a mockery of weight
Category and I can see Sykes moving up to lightweight after this. A lot of good fights up there for
Him so title be vacant again.

Doesn't Sykes need to win this and make one defence to get the belt outright? He already has two successful defences from 2010-11.

Think we will see final eliminator between James v Clark. Hopefully this fight can go to purse bids soon. Think this division needs cleaned up a bit after the last year. Sure the BBofBC will sort it out

Sure it's 3 wins after initially winning the title is it not?? Maybe someone from the board can clear that up?

I'm not sure what they have planned as in troys team but I'm
Imagining they are gonna put in a claim to fight the winner of that fight. Could be ronnie v Troy for the vacant title also if Sykes wins it out right. What you reckon on the fight billy? Who wins out
Of Gary and Jon this time?

We won't be fighting Ronnie in a final eliminator that's for sure, unless Ronnie fights and wins a Eliminator first, we've already fought a top 10 ranked kid in our british title eliminator and we all know what happend in that fight, we've had 18 fights, boxed at higher level, done more rounds, 2X unbeaten area champion were ranked above Ronnie, he hasn't even had a eliminator so why would anyone think we would fight Ronnie, if it was a straight shot in a final Eliminator and that would be fair ? Not gonna happen.

If Sykes wins, which is near on 100% certain IMO I hope he does have to have 1 more defence and we get the chance, I think Troy & Gary would make a seriously good fight & really show what Troy is all about, but i'm sure the winner has to fight Walsh first with in 90 days

Well looks like Troy wont be getting next shot, Cant understand why Walsh is still in position even with 2 withdraws but hey I guess its his promoter. Also I think it would be possible for a final eliminator between Ronnie and Troy and im sure Tommy will be suggesting that to the board. End of day both Ronnie and Troy are realistically not looking at a fight any time soon it seems as FW has manouvered Mitchell Smith in position for the English by making Kays vacate and a fight that Sykes will win then another fight v Walsh.

Does Sykes win the belt outright if he beats Kays or does he need to defend it?

So if the the board mandate Troy to fight Ronnie you will refuse a final eliminator?? Surely it's not Ronnie's fault Kay's got promoted to the shot Troy should of got?? Can anyone really see Walsh taking a fight at this level he thinks he's above it. From what I hear he had no interest in this title. Walsh will fight again at lightweight and can see him the next fighter signing for Matchroom

No it's not Ronnie's fault at all, of course not, but why should we be made to fight a eliminator, win that, then fight a final eliminator against someone who hasn't even fought a eliminator first ?

We will gladly fight Ronnie or anyone else in a final eliminator if they too have firstly fought and won a eliminator like we had too.

Why should we be made to keep fighting 50/50 fights against top 10 lads in eliminators while no one else seems to have to ? Especially seen has we've been pro for nearly 5 years, had 18 fights, covered plenty of rounds, 2X unbeaten area champion, winning both by tremendous KO's, and fought some good opposition ?

Even if the board order it, that don't mean nothing or it will happen, has we're seeing time & time again with these fights the board are saying need to be fought

That may well be true but to be fair apart from Troy's loss too Flannigan he hasn't been in with anyone of the class of Ryan Walsh or Maxi Hughes. Both also away from home.. I agree Troy has been a little short changed here. End of the day Ronnie doesn't care who he fights.. He wants that British title will need to fight whoever is put in front of him..

Always likely once Walsh pulled out, Kays is English champion so he was always likely to be at the top of the queue. Walsh will fight the winner because he's still mandatory, if he chose not to fight for the title it would be a different situation, but with it being injuries he will be kept in that position. The board will want to see the title being fought for live on TV, without Walsh, that leaves Sykes, Kays, James, Clark and a few others, none of which bring TV coverage, so that would mean the British title on small hall shows, which isn't really what anyone wants, so Walsh was always likely to be given a shot at the winner. As far as I know this has nothing to do with Mitchell Smith now fighting for the English title, I believe he's moved down to Featherweight so someone else will get the English title fight.

Sykes will likely beat Kays, then fight Walsh in July or September, because it's the best money he'll get, there's plenty of top fighters at Lightweight, but he isn't really of any interest to most of them. The English title will possibly end up being fought for by Troy James and A N Other, as a final eliminator, no one else has won an eliminator so otherwise it would mean him sitting on the sidelines for a little while longer, Joe Murray could be an option for that one. Then Ronnie Clark and Maxi Hughes should be sent out to purse bids as an eliminator over 10 rounds. That would leave a few others to work their way towards title shots, John Simpson will undoubtedly be in the mix when he returns, hopefully he takes some time out first though, he may end up as an opponent for Walsh down the line, Ben Jones and Anthony Cacace will undoubtedly be looking to get themselves into title contention and if Stephen Foster decides to continue I'd expect to see him back down at Super Featherweight, wouldn't mind seeing a rematch against John Simpson.

My opinion, Sykes wins it outright and I just see him wanting to crack lightweight but we shall see, Walsh will fight the winner of Troy James v Ronnie Clark which has been called as a final eliminator. Im guessing boxing cutsman knew this before the past half hour and thats why hes saying Troy not fighting Ronnie unless he fights someone in top 10 first ?

Yh I've known for a while mate, rumour was about for a week or so, that's why I said to Ronnie on the other thread that his eliminator with Kay's won't happen.

I know Dave Coldwell is looking to get Hughes a Eliminator aswell and he's offered the rematch twice to team Clark which they've refused, once because of hand injury, & second time recently for May 9th show because they where waiting to see about there eliminator with Kay's, so now that fights not happening they've got no excuse not to take fight/rematch with Hughes.
So the best option now is for that fight to take place and Team Troy will gladly take on the winner in a final eliminator

now that would be fair all round :TU:

Im a novice to boxing but if the board are ordering Ronnie v Troy in a final eliminator to go out April 9th, why is Tommy gonna risk that by taking a fight with Maxi when he doesnt need to? Ronnie would fight him in a second but Tommy is his manager and needs to take Ronnie the best route to what he wants and unfortunetly for Troy that's this way. Hes refused Maxi twice, his last fight Ronnie had 2 broken hands recovering and ask the board they refused him until his surgeon signed him and the 2nd was is in May, Ronnie fights middle of April on a home show in Paisley. Thats understandable surely? Would you take a top 10 fighter on if you were in Tommys position? an honest answer please

Why are we gonna fight Ronnie then ? He hasn't got nothing for us, so unfortunately for Ronnie that's the way this is :TU:

We're above him in rankings, were 2X unbeaten area champion which is good with area council, we've fought better opposition, and we've already won a British title eliminator against a top 10 fighter, don't make no sense for us.

No doubt the board will receive a app off Dave Coldwell for eliminator & receive a letter from us stating our situation and facts so think the likelihood is the fight between Ronnie & Hughes is gonna be more realistic, and IMHO that's a better fight for you
