London MBC Sanctioned Event A Huge Success – Further UK Even
London MBC Sanctioned Event A Huge Success – Further UK Events Planned
Following the successful sanctioning by the Malta Boxing Commission’s UK office of the Dave Murphy Acourtier Events promoted WARZONE professional boxing event, at York Hall in London on the 1st March, the MBC Vice President Gianluca Di Caro today announces that further UK events are planned for this year.
The March 1st event, which was headlined by London based, MBC License holder Marianne Marston’s unsuccessful challenge for the World Boxing Union European Featherweight title, against Czech Republic’s Hana Horakova, was exceptionally well received by both the British public as well as those from within the sport.
Whilst regularly sanctioning professional boxing events in the Islands of Malta, the March 1st event was the first to be sanctioned by the Malta Boxing Commission in the United Kingdom.
The feedback received by the Malta Boxing Commission has been extremely positive, with many from within the boxing world not just congratulating the MBC for their slick and professional organisation of the event, but also a number of British boxers, officials and promoters have approached the MBC for licensing and the sanctioning of events.
Speaking earlier today Mr. Di Caro spoke briefly about the WARZONE event as well as the Malta Boxing Commission’s plans to sanction further professional boxing events within the United Kingdom.
“Firstly I must send out my best wishes to promoter Dave Murphy and his lovely wife Sandy, unfortunately they were forced to miss the event, as Sandy lay in critical condition in hospital, quite rightly Dave elected to be by his beloved wife’s bedside.
The news at this moment in time is looking slightly brighter for Sandy, I have been informed that she is now making some progress, although she is still on life support.
As such I would like to send best wishes to Sandy from all of us at the Malta Boxing Commission, we all hope she gets well soon, I also know that the boxers and officials involved in the event last week also wish Sandy a speedy recovery.
No one can deny the event was exceptional, Dave had put together an excellent evenly matched eleven card show, it was a true pleasure for the Malta Boxing Commission to sanction such a quality event.
I am truly humbled by the messages of congratulations, on Facebook, Twitter and by phone, we received for the first class work by our officials involved in the sanctioning the event.
I have nothing but praise for the officials from both the Malta Boxing Commission and the World Boxing Union, each undertook their duties perfectly, as well as assisted where they could with other aspects of the event, in the absence of Dave and Sandy.
I am also very pleased to say that since the event we have been receiving calls and applications for licenses from British based boxers, officials and most pleasing a number of promoters.
Already this past week we have licensed an outstanding internationally acclaimed amateur boxer, who hopefully will be pro debuting very soon, two promoters and a referee.
We have also secured three additional events for sanctioning by ourselves, the first in May, which will take place in Birmingham, the second will be in Leeds and the third takes place in Blackpool in September.
In addition to these events, we will continue to sanction Mr. Murphy’s London events, the next of which takes place in May at the York Hall, as well as am in discussions to sanction an event in Dorset, I am also in talks with a further two London based promoters, both of whom have stated an interest in the Malta Boxing Commission sanctioning their upcoming events after they attended the York Hall show last week.
It really is exciting times, not just for the Malta Boxing Commission, but also promoters and boxers, as finally they have a cost effective alternative, one that works with them for the benefit of them, the sport and the fans.”
An announcement is expected to be made in the coming weeks, with regard to the proposed events mentioned by Mr Di Caro.

With out trying to be a dick...I'm glad Marston lost, her PR team seemed to be in over-drive and hopefully this will stop the BS.
Re: London MBC Sanctioned Event A Huge Success – Further UK Even
Unfortunately there seems to be more of these shows on the way, featuring fighters deemed unfit to box and refused licenses by the board, sanctioned by some tinpot organisation that was set up mainly for the purpose of these shows, featuring tinpot titles and fighters who quite plainly aren't good enough to be professional boxers.Boxing Prospect wrote:With out trying to be a dick...I'm glad Marston lost, her PR team seemed to be in over-drive and hopefully this will stop the BS.

Re: London MBC Sanctioned Event A Huge Success – Further UK Even
You don't know Marianne Marston's, or come to that any of the fighters on Dave Murphy's shows, full story.Boxing Prospect wrote:With out trying to be a dick...I'm glad Marston lost, her PR team seemed to be in over-drive and hopefully this will stop the BS.
I'll concentrate on Marianne, due to the ignorant and totally unworthy comments by 'Boxing Prospect' and 'Middleweight' (I sincerely hope you are not boxers, because if you are I'm appalled that you could make such crass statements)
Fact 1. Smokin' Joe Frazier discovered her (yes a well publicised fact) and mentored her.
Fact 2. After Joe's gym closed two time Cruiserweight Champion Steve 'USS' Cunningham signed her to his team (another well publicised fact)
Fact 3. Promoter Ivan Cohen signed her to a twelve - Yes 12 - fight contract and she was due to debut in Philadelphia in May 2009.
Fact 4. She was refused a visa to fight in America until she had fought in the UK in an international bout.
Fact 5. On applying to the BBBofC Marianne was recommended to 'head office' for a BBBofC license, however the 'powers that be' at the BBBofC ignored the recommendation.
The reason given to me by Robert Smith himself was and I quote "She only wants a license so she can go back to America and fight" adding "I don't approve of Women boxing, they should be at home in the kitchen not in the ring"
The BBBofC robbed her of four years of her career, yet this exceptional woman stayed in the gym throughout, determined to live her dream - funny isn't it, any complete fool with a penis can get a license with the BBBofC these days, no proper sparring test or anything these days with them, but if you're female forget about it.
Fact 6. Because of her age now Marianne has had to be fast tracked, unfortunately she was injured in sparring with Ian Napa just ten days before the fight - it was assumed her piriformis muscle had inflamed - yet she wouldn't pull out of the fight as it may be her only chance to fight for a title, unfortunately the piriformis hadn't inflammed, it had torn close to the coccyx.
She won the first three rounds hands down, until the injury returned at the end of the fourth. For those of you that do not know how agonising this injury is look it up, not only is it extremely painful, but as it also traps the Sciatic Nerve, causes muscle spasms and severely limits movement.
Marianne fought through this injury only to lose by a very close split decision - as such she, or come to that any boxer, doesn't deserve ignorant comments like the one made by 'Boxing Prospect'
One further comment I will make, to all those making negative comments, such as 'tinpot fighters' and 'aren't good enough to be professional fighters' I would welcome you, any or all of you, to come down to the gym and say that to Mark Prince (only lost one fight in his career and that was for the WBO World crown), Manny Muhammad (who beat a 3-0 opponent on March 1st) or any of the other fighters who fought on March 1st.
I don't know why I even said that, you can't even post under your real name, preferring to hide behind a 'handle', so there's no chance you'd have the balls to make those comments to one of the fighters face.

Is there any chance the mods can get this self-congratulatory advert wiped?

Someone take this guys PC away. I would imagine the reason marston (your girlfriend) never got a licence is she can't box end of subject
Re: London MBC Sanctioned Event A Huge Success – Further UK Even
'any complete fool with a penis can get a license with the BBBofC these days'
Yet most of the lads on the show have either had their licenses withdrawn or refused by the board, fantastic advert for your show isn't it
Mark Prince lost his world title fight 16 years ago, he is now 45 years old and before October hadn't boxed for 14 years and never beat anyone above domestic level at his peak, he shouldn't be in a ring getting punched in the face.
Manny Muhammad beat a Lithuanian who won 3 fights against a debutant and two other opponents that had 100% loss records, over 6 years ago, only to return for this show, he lost by 1 point, if that's the standard both are capable of, then they shouldn't be in a British ring. You're not fooling anyone on here with your 3-0 bollocks.
Robin Deakin was allowed to fight on the show, that says everything about it.

Re: London MBC Sanctioned Event A Huge Success – Further UK Even
Your right, I don't and I don't wish too. When someone has more press releases than actual fights I find myself not wanting to know anything about the fighter in question. I'd rather see fighters get in the ring and fight. If you can't do that in one country do it in another like Winky Wright did and make your name abroad if needs be.You don't know Marianne Marston's, or come to that any of the fighters on Dave Murphy's shows, full story.
Crass is a nice way to say honest? I'm glad she lost due to the PR BS? Wow you need to learn the meaning of crass.I'll concentrate on Marianne, due to the ignorant and totally unworthy comments by 'Boxing Prospect' and 'Middleweight' (I sincerely hope you are not boxers, because if you are I'm appalled that you could make such crass statements)
Mentored her so well that she achieved what? Go on what did she do in the amateurs for the example? Did she win anything in the woman amateur world championships? Women female Amateur championships? Enlighten me...Fact 1. Smokin' Joe Frazier discovered her (yes a well publicised fact) and mentored her.
Also didn't Smokin' Joe send his own kid on "suicide" missions in the ring? Maybe he wasn't such a great mentor...
Steve's a lovely guy but lets be honest his team hasn't actually been full of world class fighters...Fact 2. After Joe's gym closed two time Cruiserweight Champion Steve 'USS' Cunningham signed her to his team (another well publicised fact)
I'm sure that's meant to be really impressive but isn't Cohen best known as the guy who has repeatedly threatened to sue Jimmy Burchfield over Hank Lundy as opposed to doing much else recently? (seems that's the only story on the first page of google).Fact 3. Promoter Ivan Cohen signed her to a twelve - Yes 12 - fight contract and she was due to debut in Philadelphia in May 2009.
Had to fight in the UK? Could she not have gotten a Visa by fighting through Europe? Any reason that particular rule was enforced by the US who have allowed other international fighters to debut stateside?Fact 4. She was refused a visa to fight in America until she had fought in the UK in an international bout.
Why was she given the recommendation? Was it based on outstanding amateur background or something?Fact 5. On applying to the BBBofC Marianne was recommended to 'head office' for a BBBofC license, however the 'powers that be' at the BBBofC ignored the recommendation.
Can't defend Smith's comments, I'm a huge fan of female boxing and wondering when the very talented Naoko Fujioka will return to the ring after her impressive victory over Naoko Yamaguchi last year. The reason given to me by Robert Smith himself was and I quote "She only wants a license so she can go back to America and fight" adding "I don't approve of Women boxing, they should be at home in the kitchen not in the ring"
As someone else said, if "any fool with a penis" could get one then why have so many of Dave Murphy's fighters been denied licenses? The BBBofC robbed her of four years of her career, yet this exceptional woman stayed in the gym throughout, determined to live her dream - funny isn't it, any complete fool with a penis can get a license with the BBBofC these days, no proper sparring test or anything these days with them, but if you're female forget about it.
Another "older" female fighter has recent been fast tracked, Nana Yoshikawa, who recently won the OPBF title in her 3rd pro bout. She's in her mid 30's though has strong amateur pedigree. I also have no sympathy for injured fighters who fight. They choose to get in the ring injured so they can't use it as an excuse, likewise someone who kills themselves to make weight (See Ryo Miyazaki).Fact 6.
Also, lets not pretend this really was a "fast tracking" a 4-10 opponent for a "highly touted" fighter should be the bread and butter opponent.
Again, she chose to enter the ring injured so no sympathy. She's a fully grown adult choosing to get in the ring, no one held a gun to her head despite how you may want to make it soundShe won the first three rounds hands down, until the injury returned at the end of the fourth. For those of you that do not know how agonising this injury is look it up, not only is it extremely painful, but as it also traps the Sciatic Nerve, causes muscle spasms and severely limits movement.
If anyone is ignorant it's the fighter who goes into a fight injured thinking they are good enough to win with an injury.Marianne fought through this injury only to lose by a very close split decision - as such she, or come to that any boxer, doesn't deserve ignorant comments like the one made by 'Boxing Prospect'
I wouldn't call many fighters "tinpot" fighters though some are (the Thai debutants they bring in to fight guys like Srisaket are pretty damn close to the mark). Beating a 3-0 fighter isn't really a great claim due to have poor some records are and how padded others are. See also Ali Raymi.
I'd happily say "I like the fact your PR bubble has been burst". I have a great deal of respect for fighters who let their talking happen in the ring, where ever that fighter fights. What I have no respect for is over-promotion, over-hype and fighters who have much, much more press than their talent deserves.I don't know why I even said that, you can't even post under your real name, preferring to hide behind a 'handle', so there's no chance you'd have the balls to make those comments to one of the fighters face.
I saw something like 4 Marianne Marston press releases on Ringnews24 recently. That was more than Yesica Yolanda Bopp, Jessica Chavez, Naoka Fujioka, Momo Koseki, Mariana Juarez and Ibeth Zamora had BETWEEN them. I know that's one site but I'm sure others were similar due to the crap your team were sending out left right and centre.
All that and I've still not even mentioned how I think allowing medically unfit fighters a chance to fight in the UK is a dangerous precedent and could see the return to British rings of Danny Williams, something I'd hate to see (I hate Danny fighting anywhere for that matter).

Don't hide behind paragraphs? We're on a forum, paragraphs are one of the best ways to express an opinion on a forum as opposed to snotty comments that add nothing or... This thread has been locked because it has no purpose but to act as a PR mechanism for the organisation in question. This forum is not a place for free advertising.
Luca Di Caro is the vice president and founding partner of the Malta Boxing Commission and bandit1961 is Brian O'shaughnessy, Marianne Marston's coach. Therefore, as you can imagine, there is a strong element of bias in this thread from the individuals concerned.
