Is Tyson Fury's ability to switch to southpaw underrated?

Fury has switched to southpaw and knocked out Martin Rogan & Joey Abell whilst in the stance.

Is it a gimmick?

Or is it a huge advantage for a massive guy to be able to switch hit AND knock opponents out?

Are there other heavyweights of note who can do this?

It shows he can do it against rubbish opponents, I can't see it working against anybody world class.

I'm a big Fury fan, I just despair at his bar-room brawl approach.

I agree with that. I think he just fights down to the level of the opponent, relying on his superior size to pull through. That is not a good idea. The general idea is to improve as you go along, and develop your skills. Your next fight should be the opportunity to put what you've learned in the gym, into practice. There was a point in that last fight when Tyson and Abell swung at either other, as it was, Tyson landed, and Abell missed. Tyson wasn't even looking at the guy, he just swung blindly. Sooner or later, tactics like that will get him beat.

It is frustrating because he has a lot of potential. You don't get Klitschko, Golovkin or Mayweather fighting down to the level of the opponent.

I think Fury's ability period is overrated, but few Heavyweights have the talent to take advantage of it. He's definitely one of the most entertaining Heavyweights around, but in almost any other era, he wouldn't even crack the Top 10. The fact that he's Top 5 speaks volumes about how sorry the division is right now.

I believe his biggest problem is when he has to much time to think in the ring. When he reacts naturally the talent shines through, but when he's allowed space, he thinks, and he plays around, and he gets caught in a brawl the.

I think the ability is underrated; he demonstrated he could beat a decent and hard fighter in Rogan fighting left handed and finished Martin with body punches. That shows a lot of ability and confidence. I've not seen many boxers who can fight orthodox or left handed though I've seen plenty who switch hit - most are better one or the other. I was surprised when I watched the bout and thought it was a good win, done as it was it was a note worthy win.
