The board should be at least more visable in this situation, they should be making sure Adamu is rewarded for having to fight someone who hasn't made the stipulated weight, or even making sure Adamu is paid and doesn't have to fight if he didn't like the weight difference.Sklar wrote:The Board loses yet more crediblity here.

I wonder how many times "teak tough" and "Azumah Nelson" are mentioned on tonights commentary ? Someone will have to tell me because I won't be watching !
Teak tough.
Tough as old boots.
Tenacious.
Always dangerous.
Head made of rubber.
Proud man, won't want to be stopped.
End of the road for the road warrior.
You can probably play boxing cliché bingo.
Re: Rocky Fielding fails to make the weight......
The rising (in all ways) Rocky Fielding puts the Commonwealth super-middleweight title on the line against Ghanaian veteran and former two-time holder Charles Adamu on a big bill in Liverpool tonight.
Fielding, who hails from nearby Warrington, is going from strength to strength at 17-0 (10) but failed to make the weight miserably for this, so if Adamu wins the title is his because he did make the weight; if Fielding wins, he is stripped of the belt, which apparently he already has been. He lifted it last year with a stunningly quick win over the decent Mohammed Akrong - another Ghanaian - since when he blasted out Lancashire's useful Luke Blackledge to retain.
Adamu, 36, has boxed only four times (all wins) since the world class George Groves stopped him for the same title in six one-sided rounds in 2010 (Adamu had previously lost it to Carl Froch on a 12-round decision.) Groves was the first man to stop Adamu but the visitor is still mightily experienced and I doubt that Fielding will repeat his lightning run of form against him, nor that he will get to him before Groves.

Well said that mandigzee wrote:Eddie is just as bad telling Rocky not to bother trying to make weight and letting him get so big today "for his safety" but he doesn't give a fvck about Adamu's safety, I wonder if he would let Rocky fight in Adamu's situation... I do like Eddie but this is just ridiculous, its not like a pound in the lower weight class where it usually wouldn't make much difference, who knows how much bigger he will be tomorrow night...rio wrote:Hope fielding gets beat after this he made no attempt to make weight and even had breakfast before the weigh in. Shockingly unprofessional. Adamu is at a huge disadvantage, really hope he pulls it off after this.

Also at his final check on Tuesday he should have been within 3% of the weight so questions need to be asked there as well because if he was well over the weight then the fight could and should have been called off then as very dangerous to make rapid weight loss to make weight for the weigh in but whatever the boxer and trainer have a lot to answer for and I presume they will be called before the central area council to explain I know that if it had been in the midlands that all of them including the inspector who conducted the final check weigh would have been called in
Re: Rocky Fielding fails to make the weight......
12 st 5lbs is 3% above 12st, I suppose it's possible that he made that by draining down to it, then went back up again after and later in the week found he couldn't get back down again and gave up.spudder56 wrote:Final round wrote:6lb's?? Who's his trainer?

He's a good fighter and if he can't make the weight he's better moving up a division; it's not fair to Adamu and really, if Fielding wins it ought to be a NC - it's shouldn't be something that money can be thrown at.

How can you hold a contest and after say: "Well, let's pretend that didn't happen" ?palooka wrote:He's a good fighter and if he can't make the weight he's better moving up a division; it's not fair to Adamu and really, if Fielding wins it ought to be a NC - it's shouldn't be something that money can be thrown at.
Why have the contest at all then?

Yeah they should do.

70% of boxing ends with the favourite winning and that's without a 6lb weight advantage.Bobbyptsd wrote:How can you hold a contest and after say: "Well, let's pretend that didn't happen" ?palooka wrote:He's a good fighter and if he can't make the weight he's better moving up a division; it's not fair to Adamu and really, if Fielding wins it ought to be a NC - it's shouldn't be something that money can be thrown at.

Re: Rocky Fielding fails to make the weight......
That's not the same as artificially changing the result.
Re: Rocky Fielding fails to make the weight......
I'm pleased Adamu didn't get demolished there tonight. Would have been grossly unfair if he had.
It's all well and good Rocky saying "I didn't want to kill myself to make the weight." and then view it as perfectly acceptable to the get in the ring a stone heavier than his opponent and then tee-off on him, possibly seriously hurting him instead.
A seriously shitty state of affairs there, coming in close to seven pounds overweight.

Re: Rocky Fielding fails to make the weight......
poor stuff from fielding, dangerous business boxing, adamu may have been weight drained and hurt in there by someone who 'could not be arsed'. punters had paid good money for championship boxing. The weight issues should have been highlighted a week before the fight and adamu offered the same opportunity to weigh in at 12 st 6+.
all in all very unsavoury.

Spot on mate the promotor boxer and trainer are a disgrace in this instance they couldn't care less and showed complete and utter contempt for the belt opponent and the paying public
