Why is Bellew so obsessed?
Why is Bellew so obsessed?
With Cleverly, I know my name is WelshJack but every single interview he talks about him over and over again.
Re: Why is Bellew so obsessed?
Big payday rematch obviously
Re: Why is Bellew so obsessed?
Haha that interview after the fight was funny, you can tell he genuinely hates Cleverly. "Stop going on about your Maths degree and fight" Hahaha.

I pissed myself laughing at that interview. Bellew was like a madman "stop going on about your maths degree and fight'
Re: Why is Bellew so obsessed?
A boxer wants to fight a domestic rival, big shock !!!. Bellew is just a normal lad getting a bit over excited as I am sure we all would in that situation. I get bored of the media savvy types, let's just keep it real let the rivalries play out.
Re: Why is Bellew so obsessed?
He never brought his name up it was Ed Robinson who did, but his reaction was funny.
Re: Why is Bellew so obsessed?
Though I remember reading an interview with Bellew; (Boxing News or Monthly) maybe before he turned pro and he wanted to be an accountant, I'm not sure if he had a placement or was going for a course but he said he'd seen the accountants that worked for the Liverpool council all driving fantastic cars and he wanted a bit of it. He may be a little jealous of Nathan who could go down that route if he wanted to; having a maths degree and boxing pro is far better than boxing pro without a maths degree.TheCobra wrote:Haha that interview after the fight was funny, you can tell he genuinely hates Cleverly. This - and also the fact that he hopes it will be for a version of the "world" title so we can all pretend the the is a world champion.taffytoon wrote:Big payday rematch obviously
He sees Clev as the easiest and most financially lucrative route to a title.
Bellew is a decent boxer and his level is domestic level. His constant attempts to kid the public that he is world class are a little embarrassing, he is good at talking about it but not at actually showing it.

Re: Why is Bellew so obsessed?
Nah mate, what it was is that as amateurs on Lottery funding Bellew, Steven Smith and David Price were all also "employed" by Liverpool City council as apprentices by virtue of their boxing, although in reality they didn't do a days work but we're paid by the council in a publicity stunt/scam.palooka wrote:Though I remember reading an interview with Bellew; (Boxing News or Monthly) maybe before he turned pro and he wanted to be an accountant, I'm not sure if he had a placement or was going for a course but he said he'd seen the accountants that worked for the Liverpool council all driving fantastic cars and he wanted a bit of it. Another example of a council wasting money that they didn't have under false pretences.
Both Smith and Bellew were described as Trainee Accountants and Price was described as a Plumber.

Re: Why is Bellew so obsessed?
Thing is Cleverly never talks about his Maths degree. Is Bellew jus upset Clev is a better boxer and even when he is done with it he can get a well paid job if he needs to.
Re: Why is Bellew so obsessed?

Re: Why is Bellew so obsessed?
Cleverly never talks about anything anymore. Depends which rumour you believe. Is he running his contract down ? Has he hung them up ?
Re: Why is Bellew so obsessed?
Wouldn't surprise me if we didn't see him in a boxing ring again, took a pasting off Kovalev, no easy route back to a world title and he can earn well outside of boxing, on top of what he earned in the ring.Parson Cross wrote:Cleverly never talks about anything anymore. Re: Why is Bellew so obsessed?
Bellew isn't people just always bring cleves name up because they know Bellew hates him and its a good sound bite. shame it wasn't on allegedly Bunce would have let him go for a few minutes about it Sky cut it of.
Re: Why is Bellew so obsessed?
Bit harsh as bomber is better than domestic level, if he was world class he would have put his opponent away with consummate ease last night, in reality, in an entertaining fight, the low blow probably saved bomber from a stoppage loss as he was in big big trouble.bripez wrote:This - and also the fact that he hopes it will be for a version of the "world" title so we can all pretend the the is a world champion.taffytoon wrote:Big payday rematch obviously

It wasn't meant as an insult mate - I wish that I was domestic class!rhino222 wrote:Bit harsh as bomber is better than domestic level, if he was world class he would have put his opponent away with consummate ease last night, in reality, in an entertaining fight, the low blow probably saved bomber from a stoppage loss as he was in big big trouble.bripez wrote:This - and also the fact that he hopes it will be for a version of the "world" title so we can all pretend the the is a world champion.taffytoon wrote:Big payday rematch obviously

What I mean is that he has done well to win British and Commonwealth titles, however in my opinion he has reached his level.
There are some good domestic fights out there for him - against the likes do Dickinson, Askin and Simmons, also Danny Price (who beat Bellew in an ABA final).
I don't know what these fights would pay, but as a boxing fan I would much prefer to watch those fights than some spurious "Silver Title" against somebody I have never heard of.
This doesn't just apply to Bellew but there are a lot if boxers who avoid their domestic rivals (and miss out on some top fights) as they want an alphabet title.
Re: Why is Bellew so obsessed?
Must be a bitter pill to swallow for tony that after all his talk a younger more talented boxer beat him in front of his home fans fair and square.
Re: Why is Bellew so obsessed?
They asked Eddie Hearn and then he started mouthing off. My favourite quote is "i'll fight him in his back garden" after he was beaten in Liverpool.korn69 wrote:Bellew isn't people just always bring cleves name up because they know Bellew hates him and its a good sound bite. shame it wasn't on allegedly Bunce would have let him go for a few minutes about it Sky cut it of.
Re: Why is Bellew so obsessed?
Clev has gone quiet woulnd't suprise me if he signed for Eddie and made his matchroom debut on the next Cardiff show with Lee Selby.
Re: Why is Bellew so obsessed?
be an entertaining rematch if it happens i fancy Bellew to do the job this time.WelshJack wrote:They asked Eddie Hearn and then he started mouthing off. Re: Why is Bellew so obsessed?
Is he a better boxer? Its a close call and a very competitive fight.WelshJack wrote:Thing is Cleverly never talks about his Maths degree. Is Bellew jus upset Clev is a better boxer and even when he is done with it he can get a well paid job if he needs to.
Regarding Clevs degree. Isn't he get a shite grade? Sure, a pass is a pass and all that but we all know when gunning for a sought after job, the higher grade will give you an edge.
Re: Why is Bellew so obsessed?
Bit unfair to critisize Bellew he didn't mention Clev name he answered a question honestly. Sky bought His name up and Bellew spotted an opportunity to have a little dig, none of what he said was incorrect, and maybe set up a big pay day for himself
Re: Why is Bellew so obsessed?
I think Kovalev did more than just beat him that night. I remember seeing Nathan sat in his corner between rounds looking utterly lost and completely drained of any colour. Even if he does come back, I can't see that experience being completely forgotten.expe wrote:Wouldn't surprise me if we didn't see him in a boxing ring again, took a pasting off Kovalev, no easy route back to a world title and he can earn well outside of boxing, on top of what he earned in the ring.Parson Cross wrote:Cleverly never talks about anything anymore. Re: Why is Bellew so obsessed?
Can Clev "earn well" outside boxing? He got a 2:2 which as far as I know is pretty poor. I'm at uni now and if I got a 2:2 I'd be gutted. Not knocking the lad 'cause getting a degree whilst being a pro boxer is an amazing achievement. Just saying, maybe he needs to box? Bellew seems to think he's lost the heart for it.
