Kevin Mitchell Fight Tonight

Post by Black Sam Bellamy »

Shambles. And shame on Watt and Hailing for trying to justify it. Robin Deakin would have given him more of a test.

I really hope Mitchell lands a decent fight on the Froch v Groves undercard because he's just fighting nobodies at the moment. Cant be making much money fighting these sorts of people either. Could be doing 1000 tickets at the Copperbox....

X2. At least Watt put the boot in a bit though.

The opponent was meant to be a bit soft, but turned out even worse than that. They should call it like it is.

i thin the BBBC should be looking into complete mismatches like that.

The opponent looked like he was picked up from the local McDonalds, he was as much a fighter as i am an astronaut. He couldnt even stand correctly.

It was fornicating pathetic.

Mitchell should be fighting Gethin/Matthews/Coyle next, not Vazquez.

Why can't he fight someone decent before getting a world title fight?

The opponent just looked like he'd walked into the ring by mistake, had no idea.

Would he still do big business? just saying he has got those 2 losses when stepping up. and without much hassle for the title holders

I think the promoter hopes he will do big business in another world title fight. Basically Mitchell is being recycled. He seems less good now than he was four years ago. Obviously there's no going back to him packing in as many as he did vs Katsidis, but a few thousand might go along to Wembley seeing as how the main event is unmissable.

Just watched it. That was awful. Mitchell would have fought someone better on his debut probably.

I found it really uncomfortable to watch, the lad he was fighting threw punches like a twelve year old girl. I can't see how that will prepare him for a major fight in may, Brook's opponent was poo but at least he could throw a punch and looked like he had boxed before

What concerned me was that the guy actually caught Mitchell with a few slaps. If a guy like that can get through, imagine what a top level operator will do to him.

Mitchell has a bit of the car crash personality about him. A shit or bust type of guy.

Awful opponent. Can anyone remember anyone that bad in recent years? Even basics like his stance and the way he threw punches looks like he's never been in a ring before. And he had 20 odd wins hahaha

Kevin Mitchell loosened up for a proposed shot at IBF lightweight champion Miguel Vazquez in the spring with a two-round win in Liverpool over the weekend. Mitchell, who has now won four on the spin since he was hammered in four rounds by Ricky Burns in 2012, is hoping to challenge Vazquez at Wembley Stadium on May 31 on the Carl Froch-George Groves return event.
The talented, sharp-hitting Mitchell should probably have beaten Aussie brawler Michael Katsidis in a first stab at a world lightweight title (WBO) at West Ham's Upton Park back in 2010 but the fact is he didn't, and he stood less of a chance against in-form Scot Ricky Burns on a raucous Glasgow night two years later for the same WBO strap. On both occasions Mitchell's chin let him down.
This leads us to the Mexican Vazquez, who is blessed and many would say cursed with clever boxing skills as he brings slippery movement and quick counterpunching to every tedious defence, and he's made six of them since lifting the IBF belt back in 2010, all of which have gone the distance. The man is not a big puncher (and most definitely not a draw), which gives Mitchell and his team a glimmer of hope against him.
Yes, it looks a big ask of the 29-year-old Mitchell but on home turf, in front of a potential 80,000 crowd, Kevin has enough experience and enough talent to give it a real go.

With him only fighting bums since his last miserable failure of an attempt to win a world title, he isn't being given the best chance of actually winning the world title.

Maybe if he fought better opposition in the lead up to his world title fights he might be better prepared to win one.

I'd rather see a more deserving British fighter get a world title shot instead.

I think kevin may pull off a shock - he look s very focused and training hard and actually looks like he is enjoying his boxing and putting in the effort - he said on interview he was taking way too long to fight his next fights = ring rust.

he also has been sparring ricky burns, Yes I know ricky lost, but...

Agreed I think he could do with a proper tune up before his next world title fight - but he may miss the boat if he doesn't take the opportunity now.

Good luck kev .

Kevins a warrior and would fight anyone, but its not upto him who he fights, the only thing he is in full
control of is beating whats put in front of him.
He has always said what he wants is regular fights and another shot at a world title - He's on course

He can get a new manager or promoter if he doesn't like his level of opposition.

Mitchell is not powerless when it comes to who he fights.
