The cuffing left to the ear area did him in. Doesn't look like much of a punch but I've seen them over the years.

Someone mentioned Price v Thompson 1 & that was a similar punch if I remember rightly.

I'm still on the fence about Wilder. Great power but how will he do against a half decent boxer with a good chin.

That's exactly how I felt about Kovalev prior to the Cleverly bout :OhYes:

Yeah as said above, if Scott was faking it, he's up there with De Nero in acting ability - you just have to see how his legs go after the temple shot lands to see he's been well and truly scrambled.

No way is that a dive, and while Scott showed he doesn't have the heart for the fight game against Del Boy, last night showed he doesn't have the chin either.

And Wilder is possibly ( or clearly ? ) a serious puncher - although I agree with the line of thought that he very likely wont be taking a shot himself too well when it's chin check time.

I'm not sure if there have been any hints just yet that his chin isn't all that - but he does look too good to be true. I think a spectacular reverse KO for the big man is on the cards.

Scott didnt dive he has just been hugely over rated for some reason probably his padded record, he had to take a knee and missed the albeit early count against chisora who isnt a noted puncher. It was a harder shot to the temple than the one that scrambled Solis against Kiltschko, scotts legs just werent listening to his brain. I expected an easy and early ko for wilder, when is he going to fight someone decent?

I was wondering that !!!! Until the Wilder bandwagon really started to gather steam, you could easily find that video online. It's not around anymore, as far as I can see. I saw it a few times, and concluded Wilder can't take a punch well. I hope I'm wrong, it would be awesome for the division if this guy has it all but as a poster above smartly observes, it may be a bit too good to be true.

I still think there is a reason Wilder has been stepped up so slowly in his career. He's been knocked out badly in the amateurs and although he most definitely can punch, he's essentially a one trick pony: a long right hand. I'd favour Fury at his best to give him a boxing lesson. I'll never forget how awkward and amateurish he looked windmilling away at big Audley after hurting him.

In some ways reminds me of the Hide vs Klitchsko fight, doesn't look like much but I don't think you can "fake" going down like that. He didn't jump out of the ring like Cintron.

Could have done some real damage to his knee/ankle the way he fell, don't think he would have fallen like that on purpose.

Not so much shades of Tyson vs Seldon, but Tyson vs Etteine and I think the way Etteine went down couldn't have been acted.

The man does have some power.

Na i was only pissing about,i was just making a point that if the prospect suffers a "soft" knockdown,he has no chin,but if the prospect scores one,the opponent took a dive and the fix is in

Obviously the Price KD was legit but so was the Scott one IMO,i do think he could have made more of an effort to rise though,his legs would have no doubt been like jelly but after seeing him decked against Chisora also,he has no urgency to continue after being hurt

I don't think there was a fix but it did look as though Malik didn't want to fight so he shouldn't have taken the fight - I don't think he threw one punch; I've seen Malik take heavier looking punches than the Wilder ones and carry on boxing. He just didn't fancy it and he had no belief he could win. There was no need to fix the bout, it'd have been a waste of money.

I agree pooloka, when I say dive I don't mean a pre-arranged fix. I mean he didnt want anything to do with it.

I don't think there was anything untoward there. Wilder clearly has power - the question mark is can he step up and cope with someone who can take his shots or stay out of the way. Given how he is being matched, I suspect not.

The Sconier fight was as a pro, your right seems to have disappeared. Found this one of Wilder getting rocked and then going down as an amateur though

I agree with Datsue. Obviously Deontay was relatively inexperienced here and shitt happens in the amateurs (though he was also down heavily as a pro) but I think he's got serious chin issues and that may be one reason his opposition has been so soft. The fact that his best opponent to date also has close to no power is consistent with this too.

While his power is certainly impressive, and perhaps it's good enough to give him a chance of beating several top 10 opponents, I think he's a KO loss waiting to happen. We'll see once he starts consistently fighting good opponents.

I know the Sconier fight was a professional fight. The placement of the words "possibly amateur" before the word video normally indicates the speaker is referring to the video being "possibly amateur", not a reflection on the status of the fight.

I have seen many videos of Wilder going all floppy as an amateur (not as in amateur video, as in amateur boxer).

Scott looked beat the minute the bell rang, got hit by a well executed left, went down legitimately and thought better of taking any more?

not a dive as such, just a man (for use of a better word) scared to continue and take much more.

That's quite funny, so someone connected to Wilder has gone about erasing any type of history that shows a possible suspect chin - they must be worried that if any opponents see it, they might think it's good idea to aim for the big man's chin - though you'd think they will probably be trying to do that anyway...

Looking at that vid, it's a dead cert he doesn't hold a punch. His handlers must know this for sure, so it's an interesting project they have on their hands: to guide their fragile multi million dollar jackpot to the big payday, and somehow avoid any banana skins on the way.
They could probably stick him in with Wlad now - but the cash won't be too great, so they will be looking to maximise their chances of him actually winning the thing - because that big punch of his might actually land on Wlad's chin...and who knows what will happen then.
So they want him to get experience, to give him the best shot of beating Wlad, but somehow avoid any disasters on the way.

So....next up ? Seth Mitchell.
