How far can Kell Brook go?

Post by jeej »

Judging by what we know today, and therefore what we've seen so far of him, how far do you reckon Kell Brook can go?

At 27 years of age he's had 32 fights, of which 22 he's won by way of knockout, and he's currently unbeaten.

What could be a possible road map for him at the moment? Who's next? :box:

Is it a step too far to suggest he takes on Maidana (post probable loss to Mayweather)?!

hes doing it the long route but he is at a good age and i would fancy him against mallanaggi for sure
not saw much of porter.

i really hope if he gets his hand on the title then he fights a series off names to establish himself as one off the best from these shores

i think people are getting a bit sick off these Final / Final Eliminators.

hes got the moves but has he got the power and work rate at World level to defeat the likes off Maidana / alexander ect ?

in short world title level but cant see him mixing with elite

I think he's capable of taking a step up and winning the European title.

I don't fancy his chances at world level though.

In the next 3 years he should fight as many of the top rated welters that he can. He should be trying to get himself a fight with Mayweather. But there will be no easy route to that fight. I don't see why he can't beat 3 world level contenders/titlists in the next 18 months. But it does feel like Kell has had a pointless 12 months.

He probably can't do that because he isn't good enough.

I think Porter would be an easier fight then Malignaggi, Porter has not impressed me that much, his best win to date against Alexander, was more down to Alexander performing badly, the one Kell needs to avoid at present is Thurman, he is the real deal, Kell can fight these type of guys when he has won a world title an defended it a few times, Kel for me beats all of them, but for Mayweather, Pacman and Thurman at the moment, later on he can fight these guys, with world title experience behind him, he is the best fighter in this country, pound for pound.

I disagree, not many fighters combine speed, power, skill and movement, like he does, his chin is pretty good too, only 3 fighters are ahead of him at present, plenty at world level are not.

I think Brook does have decent skills *although we actually never get to see how good he is* but I think Groves is more talented than Brook personally.

*although we actually never get to see how good he is* You hit the nail on the head with this comment, Groves has had the chance to prove it i.e Froch, Degale, Brook has not been given them kind of fights, where he is not favorite to win, when he gets them, I am sure he will deliver, he has more ability then Groves and a better chin, get him his world title shot first, then we shall see.

Well im not just basing that on who they've fought. I'm basing it on watching their styles and physical attributes. However like I say, whilst I give Brook stick I do think he has talent. He's not a Bellew type challenging for a world title. He has the talent to compete at the highest level.

I agree with this. His career is a bit smoke and mirrors so far. Carson Jones almost had him. Maidan a would hammer him.

I think a 100% Kell beats most of the top fighters in that division...

Mayweather - No1 beating him
Pacquiao - May just be to much right now.

Bradley - Think be a very close fight and has the tools to do it but work rate would be the key
Porter - Skill wise will beat him with counters and the jab with him walking on to Kell
Maidana - As long as he is not caught flush he beats him on skill and may stop him late on
Mallignaggi - Difficult to catch but think if sticks with him wins on points or late KO
Khan - Struggle for first 3-5 rounds with the speed then stops Khan when he goes to war
Broner - Skills beats him and size difference Kell is a HUGE welterweight
Thurman - Dangerous puncher but as he the skills to beat Kell not so sure be a close fight one for the future maybe.

I truly have no idea about Brook. Probably watched about ten of his fights and his most impressive one was maybe his toughest fight against Carson.

It was harder than it should have been but he gutted it out. It also showed him he needed to up his preparation.

But I just won't know until he gets in there with a top fighter whether he can overcome that challenge.

I don't think they are avoiding them, especially Brook, I just think that British promoters have not got the clout to make them happen nowadays, plus all the fighters in the states are ducking and diving, trying to get the Mayweather fight, let's be honest they don't want to come to Uk, if Hearn had his way he would have it over here, a lot of fighters would take on Brook, if he was not a puncher, maybe Thurman would take him on regardless, but they would not want him before winning a world title.

Why should they though if they're the champion?

Brook would have a puncher's chance against Khan, would lose handily against all the rest.

Hard to say with Brook as he's yet to fight a genuine world class fighter.

To date the best opponent he's faced was Carson Jones, a fringe contender at best.

During that fight he struggled badly and came away with a close win.

You could argue he's improved but he hasn't fought anyone better than Carson since then.

I personally think he'll fall short at the very top level but will be competitive. I'd love if he proved me wrong mind.

Senchenko was better then Carson Jones, he held the world title, stopped Hatton, though hatton was past his best, Carson Jones was terrible against Dean Byrne, Brook destroyed Jones second time around.

I take it you are a big Brook fan? I say that as your post makes no sense at all. He is avoiding the big fights, plain and simple. He doesn't draw at home so why would champions come over here to give him a chance? Also Ricky Burns, Kevin Mitchell, Cleverly, Bellew, Froch and McDonnell all got their shots so it's nothing to do with clout. Brook is top ten but not a champion IMO. I wouldn't say he's a puncher at world level either though he does have a solid jab.

I think you've at least half a point there mickey. Brook looks really good when he's on form; I think it's hard for him to get to the weight and maybe a fair bit of a camp is just to get the excess off. I think Bundu would be a good test and a very good scalp; I think Thurman is a very dangerous fight for Brook and Porter was a very good amateur, is undefeated and took his chance with both hands - I think he'll take some beating and I agree with some other posters that it is presumptious to expect world champions over here to defend against our favourites (in their hometowns); some of the decisions lately may have made it a touch easier to refuse.

Has Hearn made any 5mil offers to the other world class welterweights or just the light welter Khan?
