Chisora v Fury Undercard?
Re: Chisora v Fury Undercard?
I can see Fwank putting on 3/4 shows in the summer, there was a show in Liverpool planned for 17th May, with Derry Mathews-Richard Commey on it and probably Liam Smith-Navid Mansouri, but Derry's been stripped now so I don't know whether that one's still happening, if it does Joe Selkirk-Kris Carslaw could be on the undercard. He's contracted for 6 Copper Box shows, the one next month is the 4th and the deal ends in September, so it's likely that the next will be in June/July, with Saunders European title fight topping the bill and the usual ticket sellers on the undercard. Then a show in the Midlands topped by Frankie Gavin, with Gethin-Flanagan as chief support, but both of those could potentially be on the Fury-Chisora undercard. The most likely fight for the undercard is the winner of Hall-Ward defending against Paul Butler.

Tyson is yet to open his mouth and there's over 4 months to go, he's been quiet recently, so he's due a random outburst that will get people talking.black panther wrote:The fight game is 90% hype 10% fight. He'll need a decent undercard with local lads if he wants to even half fill the arena IMO.
Re: Chisora v Fury Undercard?
I think it's got scope for a great undercard but as always depends what kind of budget they want to throw at if.
Loads of shows in May/June then the summer break after so it could be pretty much anyone.
Hall v Butler would be wasted on it though I reckon. That's a headliner in Liverpool or Newcastle on its own.
Bundu v Gavin is very likely I would say with the mandatory situation. Some combination of Derry/Flanigan/Gethin. Brad Saunders and stalker will be on. Eddie Chmabers v Lucas Browne maybe

Re: Chisora v Fury Undercard?
Bundu's mandatory is Gianluca Branco, that was going to be next month but Branco got injured so it's been put back, fighting Gavin is very unlikely with the Branco fight up next. Saves money to put Hall-Butler on there and better exposure for both fighters without the added costs of putting on an extra show. If any of those three lightweights fight each other it will be Gethin and Flanagan, the board have just sent that out to purse bids.jackukmma wrote:I think it's got scope for a great undercard but as always depends what kind of budget they want to throw at if.

Hall-Butler would only be wasted if he had Sky dates to fill with guaranteed cash. Instead he has a venue booked, 20,000 seats to fill, an expensive TV crew in place and loads of ppv ’s to sell.
Re: Chisora v Fury Undercard?
smith vs Rabchenko for the euro belt would be a great fight and should be easy to make.

Re: Chisora v Fury Undercard?
It needs a big fight to spice it up. We are mostly all hardcore fans on here and the majority are struggling to get that excited about Fury v Chisora II. Even the casuals that watched the first fight on Ch 5 won't be falling over themselves to watch this fight, sorry to say.
I think Hughie Fury v Chisora would be more exciting to us but obviously, Hughie is a year away from that level but I expect he'll be in a decent fight on the card, hopefully against a 'name'.
Agree that the fight seems wrong for Dereck with no title on the line and only the promise of some WBO shot that will probably never come to light.

Re: Chisora v Fury Undercard?
Bundu has a voluntary on 17th May, after that he has to fight his mandatory, Branco is the mandatory, so Bundu will have to fight him, unless you have inside knowledge of what's going on with Italian boxing right now, there's no reason it won't happen, it was scheduled, Branco got injured, it's been put back to a later date that's yet to be confirmed. And why fight for the European when you can have a world title eliminator instead? Bundu may well be a better test, but it doesn't move him any closer to a world title, so it's a pointless fight. Bethuel Ushona and Dan Ion are both better options because they could be WBO or IBF eliminators.
Re: Chisora v Fury Undercard?
His last 2 fights have been on undercards in Leeds and Newcastle. Nothing at all suggests he will take any sort of eliminator on. They have tickets to sell and ppvs to do, Gavin v Bundu is as good a fight as he'll be in and there's no reason it can't be made. His mandatory is injured they'd happily sanction the Gavin fight and push the mandatory backexpe wrote:Bundu has a voluntary on 17th May, after that he has to fight his mandatory, Branco is the mandatory, so Bundu will have to fight him, unless you have inside knowledge of what's going on with Italian boxing right now, there's no reason it won't happen, it was scheduled, Branco got injured, it's been put back to a later date that's yet to be confirmed. Re: Chisora v Fury Undercard?
Lucas Browne and Audley Harrison are talking on Twitter about facing each other on the undercard for the Commonwealth Belt.
That would add some value and ticket sales I imagine?
And didn't Audley fight Wilder on the undercard of a B0xn@ti0n W@rren bill vs Deontay Wilder?

I don't rate Lucas Browne but certain he would wipe Audley out. Really don't want to see Audley in a ring again. Seems a good guy though he could get seriosuly hurt..........................again.

Re: Chisora v Fury Undercard?
The plan is for a WBO eliminator against Bethuel Ushona, that's why he's fighting Sacky, to move him up the rankings for the eliminator, Fwank has got far lesser fighters opportunities with the WBO. World title eliminator sells better than European title fight anyway and Branco has been mandatory since well before Christmas, they won't push it back any further. What's the point of fighting Bundu? There's higher ranked fighters that will travel for less and some of those have bigger profiles, it's not about tests or good fights, it's all about world titles now, Bundu doesn't get him there.jackukmma wrote:His last 2 fights have been on undercards in Leeds and Newcastle. Ushona is crap. This is no way to prepare Gavin for a world title. Bundu would be much better in that regard.
Ushona lost clearly to Denton Vassell a few years ago, and Jan Zaveck thrashed him on points.
Barnes, Pryce and Shitituzuku are not preparation for a seriously top loaded world welterweight title picture.
If the aim is to get him the easiest, least-demanding route to a world title fight then fair enough, they're doing well. If the idea is to prepare him for world class opposition, they are failing miserably because he is fighting crap. Barnes, Pryce, Shitituzuku and Ushona are not good preparation for where Frankie is going.

Re: Chisora v Fury Undercard?
I think it's more about the quickest route, he's 28 now and he's been a pro for 5 years, everyone expected Frankie to move a bit quicker than he has done, there's various reasons why he hasn't, but it's time to move towards world titles and Ushona represents the quickest and easiest option to do that. I don't think he needs much more preparation for a world title fight, he's boxed all sorts of styles, has been 12 rounds 4 times, chin seems to be very solid, was forced to fight at a fast pace against Woodhouse and his amateur experience will stand him in good stead, there's no doubting his ability, the question is whether he can carry it over to world level, the quicker he gets the chance to show that he can, the better.JimJim2009 wrote: Ushona is crap. Re: Chisora v Fury Undercard?
It is, but either he's capable of it or not, beating Bundu and co won't prove that, going in with a world champion will. Frankie seems to be the type that would suit a sink or swim fight, he's yet to fight anyone remotely close to his level and I don't think Bundu would be a massive test either, throw him in at the deep end and see what happens, personally I think he's capable of winning a world title, but no one will know until he gets in the ring and fights for one.columbo wrote:It's a big jump from that level of opposition to Tim Bradley though.expe wrote:I think it's more about the quickest route, he's 28 now and he's been a pro for 5 years, everyone expected Frankie to move a bit quicker than he has done, there's various reasons why he hasn't, but it's time to move towards world titles and Ushona represents the quickest and easiest option to do that. The point I was making is that fighters develop and improve by taking on good opposition. He will learn more from facing Bundu than facing whatshisname.
If they are absolutely certain he's going to succeed, fair enough. I am not sure that a genuine world champ in waiting would be taken the distance by Barnes and Pryce. I am not criticising Frankie, I want him to do well more than I want any other British boxer to do well. To me he's boxing's equivalent of Alex "Hurricane" Higgins. In the next 18 months he should be in a major world title fight, and I think that facing tough opposition at this stage will prepare him better. Bundu would get in the ring and try to win.
