Woodhouse beat him though, wish Darren well but I don't especially want to see a rematch.
It is very questionable indeed as to whether Curtis beat him, and it could be argued he got the benefit of a lot of 'good will' due to his incredible story.

Boxing is about two people though, and my opinion is that Hamilton should still be the champ.

This just shows the hypocricy of boxing fans in general. They pick certain fighters they want to get the rematch because they like the story, yet others get forgotten.

Hamilton, for numerous people won that fight. But because he was the fall guy in the Woodhouse Rocky story, people ignore the fact he could really have the belt, and they don't want him to get the rematch.

Let's get this straight, if Woodhouse loses the title in a questionable decision, we will have 20 threads calling for a rematch. But because Hamilton doesn't pull at the heart strings, people want him to just bugger off, whilst Woodhouse fights big names.

Now Coyle ......
I thought Curtis wasn't that bothered about boxing for the money?
He may not be bothered himself but promoters, managers etc are and beating Coyle would be a better win than Hamilton IMO, to go with it being a big fight in Hull.

I like how Hamilton comes across - he seemed a decent fellow and I like how he has persevered as well; I'd like to see him have a chance to get the belt for good.

Isn't Tommy Coyle a lightweight?

Would it be a fair fight though? Isn't Coyle a lightweight and Curtis the lightwelter champ? Woodhouse doesn't seem to be the sort that would be pushed around by a manager or promoter in order to earn them more money, Hamilton gave him a shot, maybe it'd be fair to give him a rematch?

Yes I know, but he's a fair size Lightweight and skilled boxer who could easily go up in weight, then come back down after a beating Woodhouse in a hard fought but pretty straight forward victory win for campbell. Just a thought. :TU:

Eddie will be thinking Coyle-Curtis then Luke. And he will be hoping Luke prevails, which he will.

Tbf Hamilton is more deserving of a rematch than Curtis was of getting the shot in the first place but you can understand him not giving Hamilton the chance he had.

What was the purpose of fighting for the title? I imagined that Hamilton had given Curtis the chance and opportunity to achieve his dream, (Curtis wasn't mandatory was he?) Now he's got the title it's about cashing in on big money fights against career lightweights? That's not how I thought Woodhouse operated.

I guess how much Hamilton got paid for the Woodhouse fight had no bearing on Darren's decision did it Palooka ?
Plus he thought it was an easy one.
He didn't give Woodhouse the chance - he took the best fuckin offer !!!!

How can Coyle (a lightweight) box for the Lightwelter Title when he's not ranked?

Hamilton ran Woodhouse very close and many thought he won. If Curtis doesn't face Darren then Daws or Limond - picking on smaller men for a big pay day is not the done thing if you want the story to remain inspirational.

If Coyle is struggling at lightweight (he made it pretty good last time out) he ought to move up a weight and box his way through the pack for a shot. A lightwelter champion is bigger than a career lightweight (Curtis has boxed at welter before) - that's kind of like boxing a smaller, lighter man.

Coyle may be shouting for it and actions speak louder than words; he may shout the loudest but it doesn't mean he deserves it.

Financially it isn't always what the fighter wants its what the Promotor wants.
Woodhouse having decided to carry on leaves the politics and bollox to the others.
If those deserving always got what they deserve Witter would have got the Hatton fight.

He's achieved his dream. A Coyle fight would be huge in Hull, trust me. It has been bubbling away for years since both were novices. My "what's his purpose?" Jibe was sarcastic, lads...

When did boxing become about what you deserve? Ill do what's best for my career, what fight appeals most and gives me a buzz, and of course what makes financial sense, if you could do a job for 5 quid or do the same job for 30 quid which job would you choose? Of course Hamilton deserves a rematch, it was close, his fights with theophane and anwar was close but they didn't get one, he fought me because he got offered top money and a easy way to win the belt outright, it's never been about what you deserve, let's get real

:DD Coyle it is then. Good fight.

BTW irrespective of Woodhouse's motivations, Coldwell isn't running a charity. The bottom line will be considered, that much should be obvious.
