Smith's last fight was made at 12st 7lbs, I have no doubt he could have made 12st if he was asked to. Fielding couldn't make weight last time, it's possible he isn't capable of getting down to 12st again and it isn't fair on Smith to go through a full training camp, only for his opponent to fail to make weight. Other fighters have won the belt outright with worse defences than Smith and like I said, they turned down Webb, so they're not going to let him fight anyone, but Fielding shouldn't be rewarded for being a fat bastard, if Magee doesn't step in, the only other option is to find a suitable Middleweight that could move up in weight.Horse wrote:Yes he can be the mandatory. Smith was 175lbs in his fight before fighting for the British title, it happens all of the time.expe wrote:Magee was banned for 6 months and has spent the last few years fighting at a level far higher than the British title. Fielding is now a Light Heavyweight, so he can't be mandatory.
Smith does not deserve to win the belt outright by beating a weak opponent.expe wrote:What's wrong with Smith having a voluntary? If he wins a voluntary he takes the belt outright, they turned down Tobias Webb, but for him to win the belt outright, which he has every right to want to do, he needs one defence, the only opponent that's deserving of a shot and would take the fight right now is Brian Magee. Froch, Groves and DeGale are at or close to world level, Callum would never fight him, Fielding has in effect moved up in weight, Buglioni's going down the international route and they wouldn't risk him fighting Smith right now, he's beaten Dodson twice, Blackledge was sparked by Fielding, the board wouldn't sanction Webb and I doubt they would sanction Kelvin Young or Lee Markham either.
Smith's British title wins: Quigley, Dodson & Dodson.
Very weak wins for a British champion. It is degrading to the Lonsdale belt to allow Smith to win it outright without beating anyone solid.
Fielding should be reinstated unless Magee is made mandatory.
smith v fielding purse bid off.

Fielding can make the weight again. He just messed up one time.expe wrote:Smith's last fight was made at 12st 7lbs, I have no doubt he could have made 12st if he was asked to. Like who? What's worse than: Quigley, Dodson & Dodson? About half of people thought Quigley deserved the decision against Smith as well.expe wrote:Other fighters have won the belt outright with worse defences than Smith
The middleweight moving up isn't going to be Murray, Macklin or Saunders. Ryder or Blackwell are the only other middleweights that would be credible enough.expe wrote:and like I said, they turned down Webb, so they're not going to let him fight anyone, but Fielding shouldn't be rewarded for being a fat bastard, if Magee doesn't step in, the only other option is to find a suitable Middleweight that could move up in weight.
Re: smith v fielding purse bid off.
Fielding woke up 3lbs over, like normal and found he couldn't shift the weight, either he was lazy or he can't make it, whichever it is he should prove he can make 12st before he's handed a title fight. Kell Brook's opponents were worse, handed a vacant title fight after McIntyre was stripped because Fwank couldn't put the fight on, won the title against Barrie Jones, who had lost a Welsh title fight 3 months earlier, beat McIntyre, who was a credible opponent, then beat Elwell and Lomax, neither of whom were worthy of fighting for the British title.Horse wrote:Fielding can make the weight again. If the Board can't find anyone better then they should reinstate Fielding.expe wrote:Fielding woke up 3lbs over, like normal and found he couldn't shift the weight, either he was lazy or he can't make it, whichever it is he should prove he can make 12st before he's handed a title fight.
At least Brook beat Jennings in his final defence after that lot and beating Lomax was worth about as much as beating Dodson at that stage.expe wrote:Kell Brook's opponents were worse, handed a vacant title fight after McIntyre was stripped because Fwank couldn't put the fight on, won the title against Barrie Jones, who had lost a Welsh title fight 3 months earlier, beat McIntyre, who was a credible opponent, then beat Elwell and Lomax, neither of whom were worthy of fighting for the British title.
The McIntyre win is worth more than Smith's entire two runs as champion by itself.
Re: smith v fielding purse bid off.
The way this shambles is playing out, it be Dodson again
Re: smith v fielding purse bid off.
And why not ? - Paul Smith reckons he is due a World title shot in the strength of beating Dodson.Bleak wrote:The way this shambles is playing out, it be Dodson again
Re: smith v fielding purse bid off.
Current British title holders rough ranking:
1. Lee Haskins
2. Lee Selby
3. Frankie Gavin
4. Billy Joe Saunders
5. Paul Butler
6. Curtis Woodhouse
7. Liam Smith
8. Kevin Satchell
9. Jon Lewis Dickinson
10. Bob Ajisafe
11. Paul Smith
12. Martin Gethin
13. Gavin McDonnell
Paul Smith is way down the list of British champions that deserve a world title shot. I think Fielding would knock him out.

Re: smith v fielding purse bid off.
Cause smith doesn't deserve a world title fight
