The facts are, that Dr. Eduardo Roman bought Alexis' way into this Championship Bout to get him notoriety
on the National scene.

Alexis surprised everyone, by putting in one 'Hell-of-a-Performance' against a Great Boxer in Ernesto Marcel.

Immediately after this WBA Title defense,

Ernesto Marcel was offered $150,000 to go to Japan in May 1974, {and agree to lose} to #1 WBA-ranked Zensuke Utagawa.

Also, Don Fraser {Fight Promoter of The Forum in Los Angeles} was willing to offer Ernesto Marcel $120,000 to
come to Los Angeles to fight the winner of the Ruben Olivares vs. Art Hafey {March 14, 1974} rematch.

Olivares vs Marcel would have been a great fight.

Ernesto could have moved up to {130 lbs.} and probably could have handled 'new' WBC Super-Featherweight Champion

And, WBA Super-Featherweight Champion * Ben Villaflor was 'too' big, and he wasn't leaving Hawaii for Panama.

I guess, El Nato retired at the right time.

But there were 'rumblings' in May 1974 that he would challenge WBC Super-Featherweight Champion
* Kuniaki Shibata in Japan for a late-June 1974 bout.

But Ernesto stayed retired, and compatriot Antonio Amaya stepped in for the Challenge.

Antonio Amaya vs Kuniaki Shibata was another robbery. In Japan, you got to kill the local champion in order to win.

El Nato gave Shibata a boxing lesson and the judges call it a draw? :??
