That's a good point; he'd taken some heavy punches from other men and not been troubled. Losing to Kovalev doesn't make him chinny.

Noticed a Tweet from Eddie Hearn earlier today:

"Big press conference tomorrow to announce our May 17 show in Cardiff - all welcome 12 for 12.30 start St David's Hotel #thesecondcoming"

A show in Cardiff, Cleverly on Ringside last week confirming an announcement this week and Eddie Tweeting about a 2nd coming. Surely Clev is heading to Matchroom.

Well if he's a free agent he's entitled to move around but I bet Fwank is gutted. After all that was said about loyalty last year, this is a vote of no-confidence in Fwank. Considering that Chisora is probably going to lose against Fury, there's some big holes in his stable.

I've got no problem with fighters moving promoter if it helps further their career and puts extra money in the bank. I'd rather they wait until their contract has expired, like Cleverly appears to have done. Helps avoid messy disputes aired in public and copies of e-mails being waived about during interviews.

On the plus side, the ongoing defections will create new opportunities for emerging talent in Fwank's stable.

Very true however I've not seen many that have the potential to become household names in the UK. There are a few who could rise to world level however lack of exposure on B0xnati0n could stifle their career and earnings.

Sky and Matchroom can't be home to all the main event fighters / British champs, so I don't think the defections mean much. Fwank's modus operandi has changed basically, he runs his own TV channel and its quality. If he didn't have the channel or a TV deal you could see him declining and departing like Maloney, but the jewel in his crown is the channel and maybe he won't be that bothered about Nathan. Fighters come and go, always having the top fighters (or a lot of them) has traditionally been the way he's stayed on top but now he can stay on top by owning the only boxing channel there is.

I see your point. Matchroom are limited to their 20 shows per year deal meaning limited spaces for fighters. allegedly has no such restrictions. He can put on as many shows as he likes, whenever he likes, venues permitting.

They are not perfect, but you cannot fault the world title opportunities Eddie is lining up for British fighters - big fights for proper world titles on the world stage. Okay, most of Eddie's fighters are getting hammered in these fights (!) but if its opportunities you want, Matchroom provides.
Yes you can.
If he is not setting his current champions up in mismatches, and keeping the belts by picking the easiest possible opponents, instead of chasing the big fights and unification's
he's protecting fighters who aren't proven world class till they reach a level of ranking that allows them to fight in a contest that they are not good enough to take on for a world title. Not only are some of these guys not good enough to fight on the world stage, they are ill prepared as they have not tested themselves and fought the sufficient level to ready themselves for winning, let alone defending the title
that goes for guys like Brian Rose, that are obviously sub-world class and guys like Kell Brook who have proven themselves and should be good enough to compete at world level but are still being sent in with punch bags that offer them no challenge or preparation, in fear they might actually lose
then you have the Scott Quiggs who "earn" their title by not facing a champion then go on to defend it against guys like Nehomar Cermeno (who's that I hear you cry, the guy who beat Oscar Escandon in an interim WBA eliminator?)

Yes this is the way world boxing promotion works, but it is a far from admirable business model Matchroom have employed

The point I was trying to make is that if you're a boxer, and you dream of getting a world title fight, who is delivering these days ?

Brian Rose travels to America to get his big world title fight
Darren Barker won his world title in Atlantic City, then got around a million quid to defend it in Germany
Carl Froch and George Groves are going to fight in front of a record crowd at Wembley
Kevin Mitchell may get his third world title fight also at Wembley
Tony Bellew got his WBC title crack in Canada
Kell Brook will fight for the IBF title in his next fight
Gavin Rees travelled to America for a crack at the world title
So did Lee Purdy and Greg Proska (a matchroom fighter)
Ricky Burns has enjoyed home advantage for his world title fights since moving to Matchroom and is back in a big fight in Scotland in the summer
Lee Selby is maybe two fights away from a world title fight too

Fans like us can have opinions about whether some of these guys are ready for a world title fight. I wasn't commenting on our perspective, I was looking at it from a fighter's point of view. If you're in the sport to achieve things and go places, you would want to be with the outfit that can deliver.

Before you accuse me of worshipping Eddie, I do realise he has nicked all his best fighters from other promoters because of his Sky contract. I don't for one moment think he would outwit Fwank if it was a level playing field.

Hearn is not the best promoter in Britain, just has the deepest pockets at this moment in time. If Sky didn't renew his contract he would be fecked!

Allegedly is taking his time, and building an empire. I'd imagine he'll be tightening up his contracts (ie no compete clause after expiry for a longer period of time).

Cleverly is making a big mistake going to Hearn, sure in the short term are he'll get more notice, but Hearn isn't smart enough with his matchmaking (in the long run) to get the most out of his stable. If he wants advice he should ask Burns, who left Allegedly under a cloud, and has boxed under a cloud since.

Valid points.

If you look at Mitchell, Bellew, Froch, Rees and Burns, maybe none of them have got more than a couple of fights left. The upside of the Matchroom treatment is you get the world title fights. The downside is you might be on the scrapheap before you are ready for it.

I honestly don't think Fwank will be bothered by the loss of Clev. He was fighting at Wembley Arena because other people were selling the tickets and way, way down the bill in America. His Kov fight was sh!t or bust really, as HBO were paying, and he lost. When Fwank had him and Boomer, it made sense and he made it happen. Nathan benefitted massively from not leaving Fwank after the Calzaghe fall out and was gifted a World title. He may contest one, if he beats Boomer again, but that's as good as it gets for him. I honestly can't see what he offers FW at the moment.

Completely agree. I always thought when DeGale jumped ship, although Fwank was put out, I don't think it made any difference really, once you set aside any feelings of disloyalty or ingratitude etc. Fwank carried on regardless. Same here. Fwank would be hopping mad if Nathan was still the unbeaten WBO champ but he's been demolished at world level and a rebuilding job is needed. The matchroom stable is chock full of fighters and Nathan may not get the personal attention and patient approach. No doubt Eddie will get him a couple of wins and another world title fight on Sky but I can't see him winning a cruiserweight world title.

You've basically just said everyone in Eddie stable is doing great when in reality it's an open question if these 4 are better off than they were with allegedly

Kell Brook-How many "eliminators" and "final eliminators" has he had?
Ricky Burns-admitted he turned down the Adrien Broner fight also left Fwank when offered the Vazquez unification match up
Tony Bellew- got a world title fight in his home city and came up short
Kevin Mitchell- looked terrible in his world title fight against burns

As a fan I'm sick of Eddie feeding us poor fights it's about time boxing fans stand up and start saying it how it is. Scott Quigg, Jamie McDonnell, Kevin Mitchell and Kell Brook Opponents have been disgrace lately!

How many great fights had warren put on??? People think that it is easy to put mega fight cards on week after week. Sky pay a small amount for each boxing show and Eddie has to try to put decent fights on but stay within a budget, I think people forget that. If u ask my opinion I would take eddies shows over warrens any day. I'm not saying all his shows are great far from it but at least we get good quantity and some decent fights with British talent.

Fans sometimes live on a different planet! I constantly hear fans moan about why certain fighters don't fight other certain fighters and they forget that if a big fight is to be made then sky's money just doesn't cover it so when a promoter makes a big fight he puts it box office as it is the only possible way a big fight can be made then a load of fans start moaning about paying for it! They use the same old line why should we pay when we pay our sky bill!
The money people pay for sky sports does not go directly to boxing in fact very little does. People moan about box office fights but what they need to remember is £15 for a mega fight isn't too bad. In America it can be up to $70-80 for a show, £15 is reasonable I mean I'm sure everyone on here spends that on a take away and they would get allot more from a great night of boxing.

My personal opinion is the more promoters the better for the boxing fan but I guarantee you that there is reasons why fighters are leaving certain promoters and not being paid is a big influence. Why do you think people are leaving left right an centre

The last show wasn't the best granted but that was mainly due to the fact that the smith brothers all got injured with less than 3 weeks to go. It's no ones fault the show was still ok considering the pull outs,

As for bellew being not that good that's your opinion but I can guarantee he is more successful than anyone in your entire families history so what does that say about your family???? He was ranked number 1 contender by the WBC and before u say that it was a soft ranking nether the less he is in the top 10 at light heavy in all body's so he is obviously a very successful person. Could you tell us how your self or any of your family are ranked in the top 10 in the world at anything???????

Yes, he's better than my family. That's not going to help him at world level though. I can say with certainty my dad was a better marathon runner than any of Tony's family, never helped him win the Olympics though. And I bet I'm a better taxi driver in York than Boomer. In fact, I bet him as much as he likes I know the streets round here better than him.... As I say, when Afolabi, Huck, Clev are knocking him about, it will be little consolation that he is indeed better than my family(who have never heard of him by the way!).

Am looking forward to seeing cleverly at a new weight, with a new promoter and new trainer in booth, I honestly think he beats up bellew again and can work his way bk up to a world title shot and I think he can defiantly win s European title at this weight
