Steve, why do you care? Given that you yourself already wrote on the British forum:
First you make a sweeping dismissal of Greb and all fighters of his era (and before), and now you need to check whether Julian Jackson would beat him?stevedoc wrote:greb wouldn't have a chance today ,stlyes change technique . no fighter from before the 30's would cut it today you can real off the list of champions he beat but that means nothing at all because none of them fought like modern boxers .plus greb couldn't punch his way out of a paper bag with a 15% ko rating i think off the top of my head .
Re: julien jackson vs harry greb
WOW what a stupid question i asked could a chilling puncher like jackson land on a pressure fighter like greb i'm mean that would be impossible wouldn't it :) :) :) :) :) :)Tuan_Jim wrote:Steve, why do you care? Given that you yourself already wrote on the British forum:

I think it an almost virtual impossibility to do these 'dream matches' over such a wide era gap. I mean where do you start?? How do you compare? What conditions would they fight? What gloves, shoes, how many rounds? What training time...what available footage would they have of their opponents..what rules!!!?? I accept that you can do a generalised comparison of eras but specific fights like this..?? I cant see any worth or strength in an argument either way....

Re: julien jackson vs harry greb
correct - but I suspect that stevedoc wants to prove - or try to prove - he knows something about boxing by pitching Jackson against greb. Jackson had a great whack but from all the available info I have read greb had much better skills. for me Jackson is overrated and not an all time great middle, whereas you cannot dispel the probability that greb was one of the top 3 ever.
Re: julien jackson vs harry greb
I think Greb would win all 5. He's definitely the much better fighter, that being said Jackson's power was legit, so I think he'd win 1 or 2 out of 20. He'd have some shot.

Or ten out of ten. Jackson was good. Greb was great, not just at middle but light heavyweight too.
Re: julien jackson vs harry greb
Styles favor Jackson but Greb could very well be the G.O.A.T . Greb TKO 5

With out footage of Greb I can not make a decision.
I will not dismiss the possibilities of Jackson winning.

A comparison of their ring records shows Jackson never beat a great fighter. He also got stopped early a few times. Now look at Grebs record, who he beat and try to imagine Jackson doing the same. No chance.

There is no way to analyze a fight with no more than word of mouth about one participant.Tomasino wrote:tiny_acres wrote:With out footage of Greb I can not make a decision.

Styles make fights and the majority are basing off of newspaper articles on Greb.
I am not saying he was not great. His record proves that, but how do we know he didn't drop his right
and would be ready for a huge hook?We have no idea.
The only argument I have for this fight is there is not enough evidence to back either side.
Based off of resume Greb would destroy him.Styles make fights we can not gaurantee any outcome when
no real footage is available.
Re: julien jackson vs harry greb
There's plenty of footage of what happens when Jackson gets a half clear shot on target. Greb fought every day of the week and was skilled, tough and fit; I'm not sure he'd handle a full on smack from Julian though.

This fight reminds me of the math problems I used to get in grade school.palooka wrote:There's plenty of footage of what happens when Jackson gets a half clear shot on target. You know the ones where the answer = not enough information to answer
You want to ask me who wins between Sugar Ray Robinson and Oscar DeLahoya?
I have enough info from footage to access this with at least a bit of comfort.
But any fight concerning Greb I can not.
Re: julien jackson vs harry greb
I agree Jackson hit hard but harder than Gene Tunney? Seems doubtful, Tunney had 5 shots to knock out Greb and couldn't.
I mean if a future HW champ of the world can't knock you out in 5 tries it's hard to believe that a guy who fought most of his career at 154 is going to be able to no matter how much of a dynamo Jackson is.
Which is another thing, Greb was really sort of a super middleweight before there was such a thing and Jackson a light middleweight. On most days if they fought Greb would have a 10-15, maybe even 20 pound advantage. Even if they came in at 160 I think Greb has an advantage there as it's a much more natural weight for him.
In the end Greb was bigger, better, and fought guys (repeatedly) that had to have hit harder than Jackson and they couldn't take him out.

Re: julien jackson vs harry greb
but put Jackson amongst the guys in grebs time and he'd be hailed as a boxing god
not
not
Re: julien jackson vs harry greb
With the exception of chinny Terry Norris Julian Jackson couldnt stop the best guys he fought (he usually couldnt beat them) Greb would be better than those guys so I have to assume that Greb would beat Jackson.

Jackson is sooo romanticized these days. i was a big fan, everybody was, but he wouldn't be the best Middleweight in any era.

By all means go ahead and make up stuff that nobody said if it makes you feel better. It's sweet that you're sure Julian could knock out a couple hundred dudes with ease.BarryWashington wrote:I'm sure Julian could go back in the '20's and clean house. If you seriously believe the skill level and athleticism of the sport peaked 100 years ago and has regressed since then wonderful.

I'm not so sure. He got KO'd against his best comp. Which win(s) of Jackson's compare with Grebs?

Seriously, a dude that went about 300 fights, all the way up to heavyweight, with paper thin gloves, without ever getting slumped, is getting bodied by Jermain Taylor? GTFOH

barry Washington - it is not your place to tamper with my or anyone elses posts - I have stated my opinion that greb kicks jacksons butt and you can agree or disagree but DONT - F..ING DO NOT edit my posts to look like I am saying the opposite of that opinion.
