Jack Sharkey ~ "Sonny Liston Is A Glory Boy"
Re: James Braddock ~ "Sonny Liston Is A Glory Boy"
Because truth such as this, is guarded, and can only be shared with the "more fortunate".

You've excelled yourself, Duce. Not only are none of those quotes in the article, it's not even Jim Braddock speaking.Il Duce wrote:July 9, 1963
James Braddock
"The Short Fights And Lack Of Activity Are Dangerous To Sonny Liston"
Sonny Liston is a 'Glory Boy'. He wants easy fights against scared opponents. He doesn't want a
tough fight where has to work hard. He wants quick and easy bouts.
He's built himself into a 1, 2 or 3 Round fighter. The first time that he has to go past 3-Rounds, he
will lose. The short fights will ruin him. He'll probably put Floyd Patterson away in a Round or two
again, and he'll start feeling invincible.
I here he only spars 2-Rounds, then rests for 30-Minutes. Then goes another 2-Round and quits.
He's only a 'short-term fighter'.

Um, it's clearly Jack Sharkey being interviewed and though he did say "glory boy" the rest of the stuff you just made up.
Re: James Braddock ~ "Sonny Liston Is A Glory Boy"
I saw this gem was about to leave the 1st page. Thought it best to bump it, so future generations can enjoy it too.
Re: Jack Sharkey ~ "Sonny Liston Is A Glory Boy"
So how come you first said it was James Braddock?
Still scared to let the facts get in the way of your story?

Leave it to Douche to get caught spewing bullshit and then edit his mistakes when called out. Notice the time stamp stating he re-edited this bit today. Originally it stated Jim Braddock said this. The guy cant even keep his own lies straight.

Re: Jack Sharkey ~ "Sonny Liston Is A Glory Boy"
Let's all play a game. Here's the text of the linked article:
Win Inactivity Is Dangerous To Sonny Liston
EPPING, N.H. (AP)
Apathy is hurting boxing and inactivity may do the same to heavyweight champion Sonny Liston, former heavyweight king Jack Sharkey says. Sharkey blames the easy life of the times for the decline of the ring sport he loves.
"It's easy to point out why boxing and the interest in it is fading," Sharkey said. "All the kids look for today is the easiest way out. When I was a kid it was nothing for me to walk two or three miles for a loaf of bread. We were in shape in those days, we had to be.
"You can count on one hand today the number of real contenders in each division throughout the country. As a matter of fact, I bet you can't name three in each division that are strong contenders. At least I can't."
How about the coming Liston - Floyd Patterson rematch in Las Vegas?
"One thing stands out In my mind," Sharkey said. "This year's layoff may have hurt Liston more than Patterson. "Sonny is more of a glory boy. In the long run, that could hurt."
Here's the text as transcribed by Duce (the original version from before he reattributed it to "James Sharkey", whoever that is):

Can any eagle-eyed readers spot the difference? I'll give a hint, there's actually more than one.

Re: Jack Sharkey ~ "Sonny Liston Is A Glory Boy"
Jack Sharkey, James J Braddock......it's all the same.
SOMEBODY SAID SOMETHING....right? That's what's important.
Once those facts have been established do the details really matter all that much?
Give the guy a break, he does his very best. FOR YOU....the little guy.
He's lookin' out for ya. And wants you to be informed.....of something.
Hmmmm.....maybe he's a government employee.

More voices in your head?
How badly you wish Jack Sharkey or James Braddock had actually said that!
Re: Jack Sharkey ~ "Sonny Liston Is A Glory Boy"
There you see? Ol El Duce....fixed it!
Now it's all hunky dory.
Ill Doochay.....do you ever get tired of the doubters?

Is this some kind of channelling? It's certainly creepy ...

Re: Jack Sharkey ~ "Sonny Liston Is A Glory Boy"
Sadly very dubious.....these words may well have run in the Miami newspaper that day...but there is no attribution. Your words run in this forum everyday.....and at least in your case we know who said them.
These were the days of "fill the page" and sometimes.....no, OFTEN time....when the "risk" would be minimal in terms of assessing if someone would "bark" or "cost" the publisher money....they would just fill up the space. This is not something that would likely be contested....so little risk to run with it, put it to type and spread it about.
Not sayin' that's what happened here. But.....no attribution. That's critical if you are at all discerning in your wish to "know" the facts.
Il Duce....I'm always happy to be of help in your quest to become a junior reporter. Remember...don't take any wooden nickles.
