Frankie Gavin has he got the power and strength
To be a world champion? I just think for how skilfull he is he lacks big time in physical strength and punching power, also his stamina seems questionable and he never looks in good shape always carry flab, he is a brilliant British and a solid European level fighter but not world level, I just can't see him beating a Keith Thurman, Marcis Madina, Lucas mathesye or Soto karass
Re: Frankie Gavin has he got the power and strength
Spot on, he's a good fighter, probably on the fringe of challenging but not good enough to hit the top.Michael bennt wrote:To be a world champion? if he does get a world title it will be against a weaker champion and there aren't too many of them in the welterweight division
But I don't see him being at the level of Khan or Brook,
so when you're talking about a division that has guys like JMM, Pacquiao, Thurman, Malignaggi, Brook, Alexander, Khan, Broner and Guererro who DO NOT even hold a belt just now, and potentially Danny Garcia, Lucas Matthysse and Ruslan Provodnikov steppiung up in the not too distant future, the opportunities will be few and far between
He will be behind these guys for title shots and doesn't have the name or the profile to skip the queue, so he will likely have to face someone from that list just to get a shot.
And the guys holding the belts are no mugs.
Floyd is soon going to hold the WBC & WBA titles. Gavin isn't even near his radar, let alone anywhere near capable of dethroning Floyd, Bradley is a level or 2 above Frankie and I wouldn't even fancy him to beat Shaun Porter.
As you say, without the power I don't see him making a dent in this talent laden division. In fact even with a bit more power, i still think he'd come up short, he's good but just not that good for me.

He keeps winning by miles ! Judge him after his faced a top 10 fighter.Michael bennt wrote:To be a world champion? Re: Frankie Gavin has he got the power and strength
I think Frankie is a guy that performs to the level of the guy he's fighting ie just enough to beat him. I think we'll see how good he is when he steps up.

Re: Frankie Gavin has he got the power and strength
I'm a huge fan, and at the risk of sounding like a broken record, he's at the wrong weight. He should kill himself to get to 10stone(not literally, of course. A big Welter is just going to walk through him, unfortunately. I know he says he can't do it, but surely people have come down more. I would make it my numbe one priority but he won't even entertain the idea. Brook will look like a giant next to him.
Re: Frankie Gavin has he got the power and strength
He's not good enough to win a world title.
Khan,Brook will beat Gavin.
He looks fat win no power!

Re: Frankie Gavin has he got the power and strength
I'm having second thoughts about the a Brook fight, Kell could be a stone of pure muscle bigger on the night. Khan would be a good fight for Gavin. Evenly matched size.
Re: Frankie Gavin has he got the power and strength
Paulie is not a banger but has been very successful.
I guarantee you all that Frankie will turn up when the right opponent comes along.
Vassell was regarded as far too strong, but Frankie handled it and brought the stoppage. He hit hard enough to fracture his jaw.

It's not his power that bothers me. He seems physically strong, too. He just seems small. Like Ricky lost an awful lot whenever competing at 147.G0mez wrote:Paulie is not a banger but has been very successful.

Re: Frankie Gavin has he got the power and strength
What makes you so sure Brook beats him that that comment is laughable? He's hardly leagues ahead of Gavin in terms of opponent quality, and I'd back Gavin to beat anyone he's beaten.

Gavin has looked consistently poor.SNG wrote:What makes you so sure Brook beats him that that comment is laughable? He's hardly leagues ahead of Gavin in terms of opponent quality, and I'd back Gavin to beat anyone he's beaten.

Never seen him look "up for it" in any fight he needs to take a leaf out of Bradley Saunders book.

Bradley looks as "up for it" as anyone I've seen for a while!
Re: Frankie Gavin has he got the power and strength
The Vasell win was very good; Denton is a good fighter and he was taken apart. There hasn't been much urgency shown by Frankie in his bouts but I imagine he'd take some beating; I'm not sure he'd beat Brook but he has made up a lot of ground. I think Frankie would beat Senchenko and Carson Jones. The fellow Frankie beat last night was a decent fighter.

Re: Frankie Gavin has he got the power and strength
He is still learning. Last night is another hard lesson for him. He came through with ease.
Would he beat brook? Not at the moment but brook has more experience. Frankie still needs a few more fights until he gets that.
Frankie vs senchenko would be fairly entertaining in a couple of fights time. That would give a good gauge of where he is at. I don't believe he has the most power but he certainly has enough skill to be a handful. Winning a title is near impossible at this weight, the division is stacked but if frankie can get in amongst the top 10 fighters it could be interesting for the British audiences.

Re: Frankie Gavin has he got the power and strength
I think we should hold fire on judging Gavin until, he fights higher level opposition, he does not seem up for this type of opposition and yet still won easily, he was a bit sloppy to start with then got his mojo back and controlled the action, the African did look very strong and big and was willing to take one to give one, throwing with Gavin, which caused him to land a lot, especially to the body of Gavin, solid shots, once Gavin started throwing shots in bunches, rather then single shots and also attacked in different phases, he got control and that was that.
Re: Frankie Gavin has he got the power and strength
Apart from the Vassell win, the last year and a half or so has seemed like treading water. Hopefully he does get Bundu next, and then builds some momentum from there.

Re: Frankie Gavin has he got the power and strength
Frankie's clearly skilled but i do wonder if he has enough strength to compete with the big boys,Shikikutu caught him with some cracking shots to the body early doors but then his workrate just dropped to zilch,he didnt look gassed but he was struggling with Gavin's movement but i thought he could have threw the punches in bunches as they say but fair play to Frankie for dominating thereafter
I thought Stevie Bell was spot on when he says Gavin waits too long for the perfect shot and it can be quite boring to watch but i do think the better the opponent, the better the performance Frankie will produce
Frankie does look quite fleshy downstairs though, with his style it doesnt seem to affect him though

Re: Frankie Gavin has he got the power and strength
He does not look in shape and is easily carrying 10lb of excess weight

Re: Frankie Gavin has he got the power and strength
Bundu would be a step up if he clinches that fight. It would tell us more about where he is at. Certainly last night, with frankie down for the first time, would encourage bundu a little.J-C wrote:Apart from the Vassell win, the last year and a half or so has seemed like treading water.
