yet again its flipped off the grid..... wats the matter with these guys ? jesus H ... im tempted to strip off my suit and get back into action myself R THERE ANY HEAVYWEIGHT BOXERS IN BRITAIN !!!! christ almighty i cud beat wayne llewllin with my arm in a sling ?

Not to sure i'm following what you mean mate.

As for the fight Kenna stopped Llewelyn in the 2nd round.
Kenna was fighting in front of his fans, he comes from along the round in Southampton, Llewelyn was first to the ring and had a confident look about him, Kenna entered to cheers from the crowd but looked a bit apprehensive to me whilst waiting for the first bell.
Llewelyn tryed a bit mind games as he went to Kennas corner, but just touched gloves when he got there.
In the first Kenna came out fast trying to force Llewelyn onto the back foot, he had some early success connecting with a couple of swiping punches, towards the rounds end Llewelyn landed some strong body punches, it looked as if he was waiting for Kenna to blow himself out.

In the second it was following a similer course as the 1st, but midround Kenna started to connect with more punches when he had Wayne on the ropes. With Llewelyn backing up Kenna caught him with a solid right hand, forcing Llewelyn onto the ropes where he tryed to cover up, but Kenna caught him with a couple of big punches, and Wayne slid down falling onto his front, at first he looked as if he wasn't that badly hurt , but when he started to rise you could see that he didn't have control of his senses, the ref got to 8 and Wayne managed to drag himself up , but was in no fit state to continue.

Kenna wins the Southern Area title with the good win, as for Llewelyn i think he should retire now as i can't see where he goes from here.

On the undercard Billy Bessey won a decision over Dave Clarke, it has to be said that Billy might win slimmer of the year award, as he came in alot lighter than in previous fights, this showed as he had to work hard to move around the slower Clarke who tried to bully Bessey and land his big swings. Billy landed the better quality shots, using a good left right combo to win the decision.

Fight of the night was Henry Castle v Gareth Couch, both boxers had good support, the fight was close with Castle winning the 1st he looked as if he would able to keep Couch on the end of his punches, but Couch came back as the fight progressed and started to catch Castle with some nice punches. In the last Castle seemed to hurt Couch with a good right and for a moment it looked as he might get on top, but Couch rode it out and started to reply with his own shots. at the end Couch had his arm raised by the ref, both boxers were appluded for their great effort.

Jay Morris got revenge with a 58-56 win over Ivor Bonavic, in his last fight Morris had lost to Bonavic . This fight Morris started well winning the first 2 rounds with his sharper punches, Bonavic came back in the 3rd and 4th, Morris seemed to be looking for the big punch which allowed Bonavic to land his own punches on the inside.
At the end of the 3rd Morris landed a good right hand on the bell, the Ref must have thought it was after the bell as he angryly shoved Morris who had his back to him, i've never seen this before, and i thought the ref was well out of order.
Also Bonavic kept ducking to low, something the ref didn't really pick up on, this led to a some untidy clinches in the rounds.
At least the Ref got it right in the end raising Jay's hand in victory, i had the scoring one round closer.

Spot on Topper

Great day yesterday for Colin, couldn't believe how aggressive he was, smashing through Wayne's guard, bullying him around the ring etc.

I sat there in disbelief when he ducked down and hit him with the right haymaker, I thought he was out on his feet - at one point I thought he was going to come over the top rope! Then Colin banged him with the left hook and he was gone, he tried to get up but you could tell when he finally rose he was out of it.

I heard him say to his corner - Why did they stop it, what happened? The punch must have shook him.

I was really worried before the fight that Colin had bitten off more than he could chew with Wayne but he's been training really hard and looked good and fought his fight and got the result he deserved. He told him a few weeks ago he was going to smash him and knock him out for all the verbals he was giving him and he did it.

How far on the last two performances do you think he can go? I would love for him to fight Krence and then McBride.

Got to say a big thanks to Sprott for sparring with Colin over the last two weeks, then went 10 rounds last weekend and I think that really helped him shape and confidence.

My moment of last night was Colin's son, fast asleep in the pub, hugging the Southern Area Champsionship belt, topped a good day out.

Good win for Billy also.

A fairly shock result, I'd say, although it sounds like Kenna did some hard training going into this and desrved it. A fight with McBride would be interesting, although I think McBride thinks he is 'above' that, and is trying to find the big paydays off the back of his Tyson 'win.' I'd go for a Krence rematch.

Sounds good for Billy. I think he said he wanted to lose the weight which is what he did. Nice one son

I'll just pop in here for now - I was going to start a thread asking whether anyone had hear who Gammer's opponent would be for Saturday, fearing that no news probably meant some obscure eastern European with a not exactly blistering record. Now I hate to be right all the time 8) but...

I was absolutely shocked. Kenna used the right tactics and just steamed out from the first bell and pinned Wayne on the ropes and kept working away. Although I thought Llewellyn should have tried to come off the ropes and use some skills and asert himself, he didn't seem unduly bothered by Kenna's tactics perhaps knowing it was a ten rounder, but I couldn't believe what I was seeing

when Colin suddenly landed some hard shots and Wayne folded badly on the ropes and went limp. How Wayne beat the count I'll never know but he was absolutely gone when he did get to his feet.

A real shocker!

I didn't think you did too bad considering you'd been in Iraq, and fighting a really awkward customer, I quite enjoyed the combos etc you blasted in. What's next for you?

Question for you - How does the small venue with quite a packed crowd affect you? Does it help or put you off when you've got people shouting advice from the sidelines when you're in your corner and during the fight? I've always wondered as when my friend was an amateur he hated us watching as he found it off putting when we were shouting for him, offering advice.

Good show overall by Jack Bishop and Jim Evans. All the fights were competitive.

One little moan would be about the exhibition fight, which was the worst one I've ever seen. Rather than Mike Goodall just saying it was a "Special" 4x2's exhibition, it would have been fairer to the crowd to say both the boxers opponents had pulled out so they were puting on an exhibition against each other rather than their fans not see them at all. The crowd clearly didn't enjoy the exhibition.

i do like Kenna...... waynes not good.....but i wasnt expecting a 2 rd KO ? no suree bob.. I remember when kenna got iced by Sprott (it happens) Colin did catch him with a classy overhand right

..... i think another fight with Krencey would be good..... has colin trimmed down a bit ?

kenna/ steeds would be great.... im not entirely convinced that beating wayne is top ten stuff but beating steeds definately would be...... no one at this level can beat Scot Gammer though ?

NEWLY crowned Southern Area champion Colin Kenna could be fighting hotshot Irish heavyweight Kevin McBride next year.

Kenna's promoter and trainer Jack Bishop received the offer of the fight after the Southampton man's stunning second-round knockout of Wayne Llewellyn in Portsmouth on Sunday night.

But Bishop was remaining cautious about Kenna facing McBride, the man who stopped Mike Tyson in seven rounds this year, saying that the fight purse would have to be big enough to secure the bout.

Bishop said he was keeping an open mind about Kenna's next opponent.

"We had an offer from Dublin to fight McBride but we'd have to sort out money and he'd have to come over from America," said Bishop

Top of Kenna's agenda is likely to be a shot at the British title held by Matt Skelton.

Kenna was expected to be back training in the gym tomorrow after coming away unscathed from his fight against Llewellyn, rated the Beckenham `knock-out specialist' with a record of 30 wins in 35 fights, 22 by KO.

Two minutes and 30 seconds into the second round Kenna caught Llewellyn with a thunderous left hook and the 35-year-old Londoner crumpled before failing to make the count.

The 29-year-old Irishman who is a brother of ex-Saint Jeff Kenna and has been brought up and lived in Southampton most of his life, is now in line to fight for the British title.

Bishop said: "He can now fight for the British title by right of residence. He's very proud to be Irish but he's also very proud to be from Southampton, he's still got a season ticket at Saints.

"I think he's shaken the heavyweight boxing world up with his win on Sunday. I knew Colin had this in him. I just had to get it out of him. He's such a nice guy but now he's taking things by the scruff of the neck. I saw the real Colin Kenna on Sunday night."

Bishop thanked Michael Sprott, who beat Kenna in 2003, and who sparred more than 40 rounds southpaw to prepare Kenna.

Bishop hopes to stage Kenna's next fight in Southampton.

"Michael Sprott has been a gem," said Bishop.

"I think Kenna will now go for the British title. As the southern area champion he's entitled for a shot at it."

The shot Sprott hit Kenna with would have felled a horse, absolute peach of a left hook as I remember. Shame Sprott didn't show that sort of Devil against Danny Williams...

That was a cracking shot by Sprott that night, it was nice on Sunday to see him supporting Kenna, he presented the Area belt to Kenna in the ring.

Hopefully Sprott can get some devil in him for next Tuesdays fight against Virches, he may need it.
