Bill the Boatie is my great grandfather, his real name was William Jones. I know he was adopted by a family with the surname of Lyth although never changed his surname so I am unsure whether the adoption was formalised! I have a poster advertising a Boxing event where the headline fight was between Johnny Evans (Liverpool) and Bill the Boatie (Ellesmere Port) the date was 14th November and I have been told the year was 1930. He would have been 26. Does anyone have any information? many thanks
