how far off purchasing a freeview channel are they ?

How would a freeview channel work, if he were to start one?

would they just put repeats and small hall shows on it, maybe some amateur stuff?

surely anything bigger and it takes away from his Pay to view channel and that would be bad for business

Would still be encrypted, would just let subscribtions through free view for those who don't have virgin or sky.

Your correct. As of December 2013 they had roughly 105,000 subscribers. At the time of the IPO release in February 2014 they confirmed:

"Nation Media plc will own and operate B0xNati0n, a dedicated boxing channel with around 92,000 paying subscribers in less than two years as a pay channel".

I'm not sure if 92,000 was the amount of subscribers as of February 2014, or the average monthly subscription level over a 2 year period.

At face value that news sounds positive. The cynic in me wonders if it's actually, as Bunce would say, a bit of top spin ?

The decision to have an IPO must have been very carefully considered. Now, it's cancelled due to private investment ("thanks again mr ives") and the chairman from day one is leaving ?

The press release mentions there is a strategic review taking place across the company. I take it some people are about to be fired ?!

The release also states the channel's line up is sensational and only a blind man would disagree. Hope the channel prospers.

Yes a strategic review can mean job losses, it depends what the scope of the review is! Usually means that there are signs of financial difficulty.

For domestic action, and seeing the best British fighters, you've got to go with SKY. If you want international action it's B**nation. Thankfully I'm in a position where I can afford both. It's good times for televised boxing in the UK.

EDIT:

Their deal with Golden Boy expires this month. Not sure if this is a replacement for Golden Boy or if a new deal is in the works.
