Does Geale lose momentum?
Does Geale lose momentum?
I reckon Geale is losing momentum and potentially some of the best years of his career with large gaps between fights, and even gaps between announcements for fights.
I understand waiting is sometimes a better option if it gives you a title match, but over the last 18 months since the Sturm fight has he really done enough? Almost a month already since he blasted out wood and there is no indication of another fight, big or small.

Re: Does Geale lose momentum?
I wouldn't expect an announcement only 4 weeks after his last fight.
He is fighting twice a year, which is probably all he needs to do, but i do think you're right. he is losing a little momentum and I ould have thought he would be keen to get back to the top asap as he is already 33yo.

Re: Does Geale lose momentum?
Maybe 4 weeks isn't a long time. However it's not unheard of to announce the next fight on the back if the publicity of the previous fight ( if that makes sense). As you say he is 33 and in his prime, time to push hard for a big fight and he can't do that sitting around waiting.
Re: Does Geale lose momentum?
Theres some decent scraps on the local scene for Geale to keep him busy if theres nothing in the works Internationally, or if he needs to bide his time.
Cant see why Gealve Vs Soliman can't be made though, surely the winner would be touching on another big fight!

Re: Does Geale lose momentum?
The loss to Barker was a pretty big blow I thought.
First time on HBO and you lose your title.
Next fight against a local C Grade fighter.
The GGG issues.
Hope he hasn't missed his time to really make a dent on the international scale.

Re: Does Geale lose momentum?
Sam's Sturms' mandatory (unless something has changed) and I would expect it will be very good for him financially as well, based on the last time he travelled to Germany. Cant see why Sam would sidestep that fight to fight Daniel. Maybe once he has the belt they could put a huge bout on in Australia.....I keep dreaming !!
Re: Does Geale lose momentum?
Dans FB page said he hopes to announce some big news this coming week.
Hopefully a fight with GGG!

Re: Does Geale lose momentum?
Watching ESPN yesterday they (Dan Rafael) seemed pretty confident GGG would be stepping up in weight and fight JCC Jnr.

Re: Does Geale lose momentum?
Yeah I hear it's gonna GGG v Chavez jnr.
wonder what the big announcement will be then? Maybe a Sturm rematch? Quinlan? Who knows

My money is on Fletcher for a WBA interim title.thunderfromdownunder wrote:Yeah I hear it's gonna GGG v Chavez jnr.

Re: Does Geale lose momentum?
Fletcher is probably not a bad guess, although it wouldn't be much in it for geale, high risk low reward as it wouldnt sell that well, even in asutralia fletcher is a relatively unknown fighter.
Quilin would be great but i doubt it.
Soliman has said strum has to fight him by july or something like that, although it does look like sturm is negotiating with everyone but sam, so i don't think strum is that keen on fighting sam again. he is probably trying to get a exemption from his mandatory as we speak.

Re: Does Geale lose momentum?
Perhaps with a good cash incentive he can bring Patrick Nielsen to Australia would be a win/win for Patrick Nielsen and a win for Geale would put him in the WBO mix, But im pretty sure its going to be against a domestic fighter Sherro or fletcher.
Re: Does Geale lose momentum?
A bout with Sherrington makes no sense after sherro was dominated by Sam. I think Fletcher is a decent opponent if its to be a home fight, but I would like to see him back in the states.
Re: Does Geale lose momentum?
imo fletcher would be a good opponent if it was to lead to a wba regular title shot( stupid scenario I know)amwsnw wrote:A bout with Sherrington makes no sense after sherro was dominated by Sam. but surely fighting another domestic level guy at this point is a waste of time for geale.
let fletch build his following a little with a few defences at least.
Re: Does Geale lose momentum?
Geale v Macklin in the states would be good.
Re: Does Geale lose momentum?
Geale has just indicated in face book that he has an opponent lined up and that this will be announced when it is all signed... He said he was excited so I can really only think it is macklin or quillin. Most other top fighters are committed elsewhere.
Re: Does Geale lose momentum?
Quillen fights April 19th against Koncency.
Macklin serves no purpose imo.
Murray has TBA on the 23rd of April in South Africa?

Re: Does Geale lose momentum?
Murray might be a decent fight if it happens. I agree that Quillin is probably out.
Hmmm... There doesn't seem a lot to be "excited" about though with GGG surely taking on JCC jr, Sturm fighting Soloman, Martinez is out too.
We will know soon obviously.

Seems like others agree.Sids wrote:Geale v Macklin in the states would be good.
Dan Rafael is reporting that Macklin-Geale is a done deal. It will apparently be on the Bryant Jennings-Mike Perez card on May 25th, which is being televised by HBO.
Re: Does Geale lose momentum?
Geale just confirmed it via facebook
Re: Does Geale lose momentum?
He must KO Macklin Early IMO, and I think he can, otherwise he will never be considered number one when GGG goes up in weight, as heis being rumoured to do.
Re: Does Geale lose momentum?
Gotta be nervous if it is in the USA and it goes to the cards and is a close one which in all honesty has a great fight over 12 rounds written all over it
Macklin gets the nod what with the Irish shorts and all that bollocks the yanks love
It is very intriguing, cliche to say a must win fight for either guy but it really is a must win fight because the loser will really be stuck in the mud

Re: Does Geale lose momentum?
I think Daniel can outbox macklin, winning ud or possibly late stoppage.
