Frank Bruno vs Carl 'Truth' Williams

Just watching this fight. I would like to nominate this as the dirtiest fight I have seen ....and the nomination goes to Frank Bruno. The whole thing is upsetting...the referee, the commentators...poor Williams...butts, shoulder, hit on the break constantly, rabbit punched and one of the worst elbows I have ever seen. . .right in the face. ..one of the most biased events I have witnessed....pathetic...and we complain about the fights that take place in Germany!!!

Fight was in Sean's home state of Oklahoma, and O'Grady suffered the bloodiest cut I've ever seen in boxing. His entire face was a mask of blood for several rounds. The doctor, who was later reported to be a relative of the O'Grady family, was called in multiple times to examine the cut multiple times, but he only wiped the blood away, applied vaseline and let the fight continue. So he actually treated the wound!

O'Grady was staggered on countless occasions by the Japanese fighter, unable to see most of the punches coming. But the referee refused to stop the bout.
Somehow, the gritty O'Grady was able to battle back and hurt and deck Fukuyama. When a small cut developed over the Japanese fighter's eye, the ref called in the doctor, and SURPRISE, the bout was quickly halted.

Never before or since has the so-called hometown advantage meant so much.
One of the true farces in boxing annals.

This is when Bruno developed the dirty side of his game, bringing the elbow into play more and more.

I'm a big Bruno fan, but this fight again showed that in higher company he was heavy handed rather than dynamic. Williams was pretty chinny and your Lennox Lewis' would have polaxed him early.

Very interesting post....because it actually dares to mention the fact that the amiable Frank did have a dark side and he sometimes used his forearm and was keen on the rabbit punch. Big Frank was not all sweetness and light and as the years roll-on it is possible to look at him far more objectively....for example, there was some poor officiating in the Bugner fight and Frank is throwing shots at Joe when the guy is clearly down and there were some extras against Rodriguez and Ribalta.

If I had the time I could catalogue it. Shame really as Frank such a nice guy. Must be insecurity in his ability. You mention the Bugner bout. I remember him shoving Joe to the ground at the end...I think it was the John Emmen bout he hit the guy on the ground..Tyson 1 was rabbit punch heaven...
