Why isn't the British title on the line?

Don't know I can only assume the board wouldn't sanction it?

That seems silly, Mathews is clearly worthy of fighting for the British title.

Gethin is a good lad, he's had some bad luck and it's good to see in in the mix in high class, it'll be a good fight.

I'd agree but can't see any other reason why it wouldn't be on the line

I thought Flannagan was named as Gethin's mandatory ? Why does Matthews get the shot ? Unless Flannagan versus the winner is being saved for the Chisora v Haye undercard.

Why shouldn't Mathews get a shot as long as he's willing to fight Flanagan soon afterwards?

:TU: I wondered at the time of the Ormond fight why that wasn't on the line too, this WBO European belt is becoming a bit of a regular thing in the UK these days,Buglioni's fight with Khomitsky on Saturday is headlining with that title, not that it's too relevant but having a 10 round shite title fight top of the bill when there is a Commonwealth title fight on the same show is not good IMO

He was unable to fight Richard Commey by the 3rd May, because he'd broken both of his hands, the head of the Ghanaian Boxing Association, who also sits on the Commonwealth board, protested that Commey hadn't been given his shot and Derry was stripped, even though the fight was lined up for 17th May.

I take it Commey will now fight for the vacant title on said date?

I see he has 2 fights lined up over the next few months.

Commey seems to think he's being ducked by the lightweights in this country, I suspect it's more likely that he brings nothing to the table, no belt, no money and no exposure. Fighting him on a small hall show away from home doesn't really appeal when they can fight bigger names on bigger shows for better money, in fights that move them towards European and World titles. All told I'm not sure whether the Commonwealth title will be on the line, which would make him look very stupid turning down the chance to fight for the title, likely for better money as well.

This Liverpool bill is looking pretty good I have to say. The Copperbox bill this weekend looks a bit below the other Copperbox shows but this Liverpool one is certainly stepping up to the mark in my opinion.
