When I was fighting I use to hate reading these forums, now I can't stop looking for new posts haha. Wonder how many other boxers stop searching the boxing forums before fights.... I don't think it is good for fighters to read boxing forums before fights. What's your views??

It's good to have you here Mike. There are a few pros who post on the forum before their fights and there are others who vanish for a few weeks during their training camp. People handle constructive criticism differently and sometimes they read negative comments which can affect their mood. I would say Twitter and Facebook are much worse though because they are full of trolls who can be downright rude at times. I wouldn't recommend excessive use of social networks for a boxer so close to his fight. On this forum we have a good mix of knowledgeable members and the odd fool.

Alright Mickey good to see you on here mate,a lot of boxers past and present come on here for a bit of a debate and a laugh,it'd be good to see more of you on here,i'm sure you'd have a lot of good insight,having fought at the top level

As for looking on here in a build up to a fight,if i was fighting i wouldn't recommend it,British and Irish forum's not too bad but Current Scene's pretty negative most of the time,i'm sure most of them dont like boxing

Good to actually be on here after years and years of reading posts haha. Yea I just use to try and block all negativity out when near a fight so stayed off all social and other online sites.

Depends on what sort of person the fighter is. Some people respond to criticism by coming out firing and working harder to prove people wrong, others it can send them into a shell and knock their confidence. Probably better to be on here than twitter/facebook though, because apart from the odd knobhead, most people are pretty knowledgeable and will be respectful, even if they don't rate you as a fighter.

On reflection maybe not a good idea. I'd be sneaking off to the toilet at work to catch up on the latest posts on my mobile. I don't know if I could remain cool in the work place after reading that I've been called a melt or fanboy due to my continual B0xnati0n posts. At least if I flip out at home I can punch the monitor, spit on the carpet in disgust or stage a dirty protest without fear of a disciplinary

It's great for fans to read into the fight & outcomes etc. but its no good for fighters as they should focus on what they need to do.i suppose they can get there confidence boosted aswell as crushed. Fans now want to know what your eating,when your eating & how many sh1ts you take a day & will draw a picture!

Mayweather to me is old school as knowbody's opinion matters, he has people run his twitter & release what he wants,normally plugging somthing. Even with all the 24/7 he goes behind closed doors when training gets serious & gives nothing away with no grounds to look for weakness

If I was a fighter and I'd just won after a good performance, I might be interested to read what others think and whether they agreed with my own assessment of the fight.

On the other hand, if I'd just had a stinker (win or lose) and I knew myself that my performance was poor, I doubt I'd want to read everyone else agreeing.

I think some people have a very high opinion of their own opinions!
Most of the fighters I know couldn't give two fecks for forum's opinions & unfortunately most online forums are still seen as breeding grounds for negative views or know it alls.
To be fair tho Boxrec is the best of the Forums IMO, despite the odd nutjob keyboard warrior it's worth it to keep up to date with Boxing worldwide, around the UK or from the past.

I remember Brian telling us to stay off the forums when we were close to fights. Anyway I love checking the forums now there's always a lot if inside info and some good opinions as well as some terrible ones.

I find it staggering that a lot of boxers hate watching boxing and have no clue of who most of the fighters are,like Jamie McDonnell not knowing who Sugar Ray Leonard was I cant recall hearing footballers with the same notion

By his own admission, Marlon Broomes hated football, but somehow managed to make a career out of it.

I try keep up with all the boxing. I have my own gym now, Jennings Gym. We are fully affiliated with the ABA and got some decent kids coming through. I also train Matty Askin and got a few lads wanting to turn over to the pro game. Me and my brother train the lads, seem to be in the gym more now than I was when boxing ha. In the the gym as I write this message putting a new canvas on the ring. Love boxing and always will.

Glad your on here michael, I was at a few of your fights, the first one I remember was on the MEN hatton v McGee undercard back in 2002 I think ! I was also at your last fight in Birmingham on the magnificent 7 bill, infact I was staying at the same hotel, I remember you eating some bar food sitting on your own in the afternoon, loads of people where staying there including ref richie Davis, eamon McGee, Sam sexton, the guy who lost to Frankie Gavin and all the ring card girls ! It only seems like the other day but that was a few years back now ! Hope your gym is going well and you take some kid to the top
