What it boils down to is are the Board acting within EU directives put in place to ensure a fair and level playing field and they are abiding with EU trade laws that aren't restricting people's trade in their chosen profession or field of expertise. Are the Board threatening their licence holders with bans and fines to uphold their monopoly on the sport in this country when they aren't a statutory body. I have no idea which way the cards will fall but the board must be confident (or incredibly stupid) to take this case on which has the potential to bankrupt them. It would also be nice to be asked if we backed the Board in going ahead with the court battle.
That is what I have been trying to say. Well said.

I fully expect the Board to come out on the losing side of this one, sadly. We live in the EU and ultimately have to abide by the laws of the Union.

Expe is not an official for the board, he is merely an avid boxing fan. However, you (Callowland) were once an official for the BBBofC. Now you are affiliated with an overseas commission which has previously been mentioned in this thread, therefore you are on the 'other side' so to speak. However, this is an open forum and both sides can air their views. There's nothing wrong with healthy debate :TU:

Nothing's beyond reform, I've seen far worse get sorted, just needs someone with balls to get it done. The board isn't that bad anyway, they favour the big promoters too much and some of the costs involved are probably too high, but you'd be hard pressed to find a safer body anywhere else in the world and in general, they usually get it right.

As I've said mate it doesn't matter who is challenging the board or who is bringing about the case. I agree with most of what you say but you should be asking the Board why they let him he away with it year after year. Dont lose sight of the fact that its all about whether the Board are contraveining EU directives. No doubt certain individuals will be hovering in the aftermath if the Board fail to prove they are acting lawfully and to the letter of the EU law.

Very good point mate There is nothing to stop any promotor putting their own belt to any contest even a four rounder and call it what they like its just that most promotors prefer to give Bruce the money knowing full well that there is no sanctioning criteria whatsoever apart from have you got the money

I agree entirely with what you say and I have asked the question of the board on many occasions but never get a plausible response mate The game is changing altogether mate lawyers make more money out of the game than fighters today and personally in the long term i think all of this legal action etc will go on for years and cost both sides an absolute fortune all I see is licence fees going up to fund all of this Whereas I know fees could come down significantly if the threat of legal action all the time was removed but at this moment in time god only knows what will be the outcome to all of this

Going back to the post regarding the bill on the 19th at the Lighthouse for what was originally a bill full of second tier Ghanaian and British boxers fighting for WBU world titles, I note on Boxrec schedule the WBU title has now been removed from many of the fights-does anyone know what is going on with this bill and if the scheduled fights are still for WBU titles?

That's not a title, it's a trophy for winning a tournament, like Andre Ward got at the end of the Super 6.

Correct. The board do not recognise it. A 'Masters' title fight is a non-title fight in the board's eyes.

The law is correct as far as the board are concerned it is just an 8 or ten round contest and if mugs want to give bruce 300 for using his titles plus buying a belt as well that's a matter for them also punters are being conned into believing its a genuine title

What I don't understand is if the board doesn't
Recognise a masters belt! Then how come it the bboc
Officials who govern them!?

You can't beat experience and continuity.
That's fair point and there ought to be an open debate where people can give an argument for and against a rule or a rule change; someone can say why things aren't working for them and a resolution be found. If it's seen as an insiders club and an old guard then some people will get their noses put out even if they have good ideas.
This is exactly my view. The Board by-and-large do a great job but there seems to be air of ‘Papal infallibility’ about their decision making process. There is no recourse with them, there is no members vote on major decisions, no accountability etc.

If there was a vote today to re-elect the members of the Board I am sure the majority of them would be re-elected but there is no process in place to do this.

In short the licence holders should have a lot more power and say in who sits on and runs the Board and they should have the ability to hold the Board members accountable for their decision making.

Don't quite understand what you mean by monopoly mate there is the ebf and various other white collar organisations as I see it boxers could always hand their licences in and get licenced by any body that they wish at any time it's just that the board have far higher medical standards than any other body in the world and IMO long may it continue anybody who is not happy in abiding by board regulations can always hand their licence in I just don't understand what the problem is to be honest with you
No they dont. We've been through this before. They have the exact same standards as BUI and the other EBU allifiated national boards that I am aware of.

It generally is, especially when there is absolutely no other recourse with regards any decision the Board makes and the only people the Board members are accountable and answerable to are the Board members themselves. Thats a ridiculous situation for the sport to be run.

Open and good governance is a good thing, openly popularist decisions aren't always but the people that pay the piper (and fight and bleed) for the sport need to feel their views are taken on board and considered.
