Marcos Forestal defected

Post by yu265545 »

A couple news reports out there that Marcos Forestal of Cuba's WSB team has defected today. If true what kind of pro will he make? A huge slap in the face to AIBA. To be honest I thought the whole team would defect as soon as they hit the US soil.

Here is the article:

It is a shame that this happens. I totally understand but had hoped that with Cuba doing the WSB, the boxers would make enough money to not do what he did. Cuba won't come back again until some major changes occur in their country and people can make a decent salary to live well and not want to defect.

If he was a stock I'd be investing heavily I'll say that much. Kid beat a Cuban Olympic gold medalist to win the Cuban national title in December. Is in the WSB. Is only 21 I think. Even if he has restless Cuban pro boxer in a capitalist society disorder like so many Cubans who defect I like his chances of making it to that respectable fnf type level. TR should pickup this kid & throw him on some Guillermo undercards in Miami. Maybe those two could have some epic Cuban showdown in 3-4 years with enough luck.

I suspect it's got more to do with escaping from an authoritarian regime than hoping to make US minimum wage.
