Is Shawn Porter really interested in a fight with Brook ?

Post by Anzi »

In a recent interview Shawn Porter did, he was taking of fights with Marquez, Mayweather, Maidana if he beat Malinaggi, why no talk of Brook, who is supposed to be next in line and apparently ordered by the IBF for the winner of his fight with Malinaggi, also the American Interviewer did not even mention Brook's name, very strange ? Hearn has also said if they get the Khan fight, then they would not fight for the IBF world title, but go for Khan instead, seems like both sides are not fully commited to a Porter/Brook fight, a winnable fight for Brook, do Brook's team want a world title or not ? Does Porter take Brook seriously ? Do the Americans not rate Brook at all ? Why would Brook's team want to take a 50/50 match with Khan with no title, over a more winnable fight with Porter for a world title ? If Brook lost to Khan he would have to go to the back and it would maybe take a few years to get back into title contention.

I think it's more about Brook beating Khan, than what would happen if he lost. Porter isn't as big a name in the US as Khan. Brook could become the new British kid on the block, so to speak. That shits on beating Porter. In that weight division and up one there are loads of massive fights, it's well worth the gamble and Brook knows it. I just don't see Khan taking the fight unless he loses to Collazo, he won't want to give up that status and I don't blame him.

No-one cares or even knows about Brook in America that's why he wasn't mentioned

For me Kell Brook is one of the most talented UK fighters of his generation but for inactivity, maybe dedication and bad management,i fear we have lost some of his best years, hasn't he been pro 10 years? What a shame and waste,i honestly feel that

Nah but i do still think he has a world title in him,its just that i think he had the tools to become champ at 22/23 so i think he.s left it too late to leave a legacy but may get a big fight before he retires but not become multiple weight material

brook has had final eliminators for the last three years and still no world title fight something is up. and yes in the states no one knows or cares who he is as he has beaten no one, welter has the most depth in talent yet he has fought no one of note and until he does he will not be recognised

Absolutely. He won't put bums on seats in the U.S. When the big names look at possible opponents and Brooks name is mentioned they know they won't get a big payday yet are putting their own position at the top of the division in serious danger. I think Brook is well known in the boxing circles in the U.S but nobody wants the risk vs a largely unknown fighter to the masses.

The Ring have gone a bit mental since they gave Chuck Giampa full control of the rankings, he had Broner at #6 P4P

They would if he beat porter, or a top US fighter. Problem is matchroom dont seem interested in actually making the fights happen. Its really frustrating as a brook fan.

To be fair to Brook and his team, injuries have stopped his progress. Also being known or not known in the states is hardly a career stopper, the fans there are uniquely insular, and the only way foreign, particularly european fighters get known there is if they base themselves there. If Golovkin was fighting in Russia he would have the same problem.

The yanks have never rated british fighters-but that hasnt stopped many of them winning titles. Honeyghan was hardly known at all in the states when he beat Don Curry.

With this I think Matchroom really let Brook down with Senchenko as an opponent last year. Was he a really a big name like Hearn said he was going to get ?? British people may know him as the guy who beat Hatton. But the American networks wouldn't have an idea. Other names mentioned were Ortiz Guerrero even Malinaggi or Judah at that point would have been good.

Time will tell Porter has got 90 days to defend the belt against Brook and considering his last fight was far from gruelling it is realistic Kell will finally get his world title fight before the summer is out.

I dont think it about selling Brook to the american networks. Its about keeping him unbeaten until he can get a money fight with Khan and or an american "name" fighter like Malignaggi or even Mayweather.

Brook may may make a couple hundred grand in a Porter fight-a lot more against Khan, Malignaggi or Mayweather. Especially in a fight in the UK.

I thought that Paulie made noises about retiring after his mauling? Kell is a good fighter and there's no way in hell he deserves a mega fight with Mayweather. Amir Khan has a big fight lined up and if he wins and looks good I'd imagine he'd wrangle a Floyd bout. Khan has put in years of boxing at a high level, Brook hasn't done that yet. Porter looks a real handful and he is active, he'll be tough to beat.

If porter isn't interested in the brook fight, brook should go for a fight with Guerrero in my opinion. Big enough name to get brooks name in the mix and winnable fight for brook

I thought Porter had to face Brook? I'd not have thought he'd be afraid and he'll get home advantage. It looks a hard fight for Kell and I thought the best way to get big fights and big money was to win a world title, defend it and look good doing it and then face other proven fighters.

Still not sold on how good brook been so far, he's mostly been protected so far but Eddie has got to take then chance and fight Porter, if he doesn't beat Porter he's not going to beat the other top welterweights

An American fighter, on an American promoter's show, live on American TV defending an American-based world title...

... It would not surprise me at all if the IBF allowed him to fight some sort of unification involving the WBA title that will surely become immediately vacant after Mayweather whups Maidana.

Just like in the case of Froch vs Kessler II which saw mandatory Adonis Stevenson pushed out the picture - I can sense Kell's shot going the same way because he is not familiar or tangible to American audiences right now.

Only Sky PPV money can bank-roll their argument to convince Porter to come here. Unless Sky can do what they did for Froch v Bute and swallow the hit to get record viewing numbers ?
