Jackson KO4 Graham vs Hearns KO2 Duran

Post by elmersalsa »

Which of these knockouts was the most devastating. I have never seen Julian Jackson's stunning knockout punch to Herol Graham until last week. I was like what the hell?

So to you, which KO was the most devastating between the two. Boy, those two guys (Jackson and the great Thomas Hearns), could whack.

Hearns shot to finish Duran is probably the best punch I've seen landed. It was spectacular.

That's pretty much what I was going to say. Both in terms of the shot itself, and the significance of what it accomplished. Knocking out Duran like that is some lofty stuff.

Jackson's was a true one punch KO in a fight he was losing...in fact he was on the verge of getting stopped. Hearns had pulverised Duran and dropped him when the final ending came. He also KO'd a guy who was about 4 divisions up from his best weight. Great KO. I'm a Hearns fan...I even voted for him on this poll before thinking it through. But I think you have to go with Julian.

Jackson vs Graham is a fight with two B level fighters. Hearns Vs Duran is two guys who are top 3 tag at their best weights. No contest.

Duran had recently beaten Davy Moore at 154. He gave Hagler fits with his crafty and dangerous boxing skills in losing a close decision. He beat the man who took Hearns out at 147. In later years he would step up again and beat another guy who had KOd Hearns, Iran Barkley. He beat a guy with an iron chin and will. It was an incredible KO.

Me too. Duran was able to get back to his feet shortly after being knocked out by Tommy. Herol Graham was out cold for 5 minutes.

No question though the KO win over Duran was definitely more important as far as who was getting knocked out. They're both amazing KO wins, but to answer the question which was more devastating I think it's Jackson KO 4 over Graham no contest.

KO's don't come any more devastating than that.

Don't see what any of this has to do with how devastating the KOs were.

I think Jackson-Graham clearly had a more brutal ending.

I can't agree with B level; unless we're talking all time status. Jackson was a 2 weight champ and flattened all sorts of people; Herol was the nearly man, but for me he beat McCallum, who is an ATG, he was within a whisker of beating Jackson, and had too much for Brewer early on when he was barely even a ghost.

No question, however, that Hearns and Duran are a level above, and if they represent A, then sure, Jackson and Herol are B level. For that reason, and because Duran's chin was so proven before and after, Hearns Duran is the better, even if it's not quite as devastating.

Do you think Duran would have been knocked clean cold if Jackson had hit him with that?

I do and I think Hearns would have been knocked cold by it as well, it would have worried even Hagler.

Both KOs were devastating. The Hearns vs Duran KO made me laugh, even though, Duran is my favorite fighter. Every time I see that fight, that KO makes me laugh.

The Jackson vs Graham KO makes me flinch everytime I see it. If I were Graham's mother I would feel very, very terrible and worried. Oh my JAH, what a KO!

Hearns and Jackson got to be the two of the top 5 p4p devastating KO artists of the last 50 years...Don't you guys think?

X2, I'd put Moorer at light heavy in that league and maybe Mugabi at light middle but both Hearns and Jackson were pure power hitters.

You gotta put Big George in that conversation too.

Lewis hit harder shot for shot, in my opinion. I know that's not the majority view, but if we're just talking about the power behind single punches(and not styles and aggression), I think the shot Lewis almost decapitated Rahman with is about as hard a punch as I've ever seen land.

It still impresses me that Rahman was almost able to get up from that.

I think for me the HG v JJ was the more devastating. Graham had dominated the fight, and was maybe a round away from winning due to damage around Jacksons eyes. Can you imagine the corner in the interval prior to the KO "keep doing what you are doing" "just one more round and you are champ" then BAM...all over.

Duran had been there, done it, made tons of money and spent tons of money and knew that even with a loss like that doors and big money fights would still open for him. For Graham it was back to the long road of being a difficult fighter to market.
