Have any of you seen Joe Hipp fight before?I had seen a few of his fights against journeymen,and what I thought an AWESOME fight with Tommy Morrison.This was a war.Morrison suffered a broken jaw,and then suddenly ends the fight with one punch,around the 9th rd.For his size,Hipp was very mobile,and boxed good.He was also a southpaw.I have been meaning to post about him,but always forget.Salud Joe Hipp,

I always liked watching Hipp. He was a tough bugger. Isn't he still plugging away for peanuts on the chitlin circuit?

Hipp was never mobile. He had a bad knee. Joe was mostly a slugger. A fair puncher, Hipp's best punch was the straight left.

Hipp got blow out by Bert Cooper. He lost when he stepped up. Hipp was never pretty to look at, but he was a tough gutsy fighter who had a cult like following.

Hipp was an American Indian. Perhaps the highest rated American Indian of all time.

I never said that Hipp was Willie Pep,but maybe you should rewatch the Morrison fight,Yes, I too remember the knee brace,but I also remember his girth,and the way that for his girth,he was quite mobile.

Hipp's claim to fame was his toughness, and the fact he is American Indian. But in the fights of his I've watched, I saw nothing really special, in fact, I regarded him as a 'B' level heavyweight.

I agree, and Hipp was never a mobile fighter. Hipp could move a bit, but let’s not go over board. Morrison fought with a broken jaw for most of the fight. It was not an easy fight for him.

Win or lose, Hipp gave his best. This is why he is regarded as a cult favorite " B ' Heavyweight. In fact, Hipp is still active today. He’s far past his best, yet he is still fighting.

I've been sorting through my stack of tapes from thew early 1990s and it seems like Hipp fought every ten days because there are a lot of his fights on those tapes. He was tough in deceptively good shape and he came to fight.

That's what I mean when I say he was "tough". the guy never backed down, but fought like he was always trying to win, even though he knew he was losing. However, that does not make a great fighter. That makes a great opponent.

Hipps was an up and won fighter. He looked impressive against Deavid Bey but was handled by Bert Cooper and the see saw fight with Morrison. Bounced back and looked nice against Garcia and Ribalta but was made to look like an old man against a much quicker Seldon. Knee problems have hampered him throughout his career. He may make some noise in the over 40 curcuit for some fun

hipp had a decent sense of humour also. i think it was after the morrison fight on abc, and he was asked if he had trouble seeing the punches due to his eyes being puffed up. he answered with a grin, that it wasn't that bad, as his eyes were abit slanted anyways.
