Wright sick - does Sam Soliman have a chance.

Post by stujones »

Apparently, Ronald Winky Wright has been suffering with a cold. Some of "his people" have wanted him to pull out. The fight is still on.

Illness is a huge factor for anyone, but especially when fighting someone like Soliman who has a good engine and good get too a fighter who might tire quicker than normal.

I have some experience of fighting under the weather and it quite often the fighter themselves who is the first too suggest a pull out. For his people to see he is not well, means he is quite bad. Its absolutely terrible fighting ill, everything goes - your snap, punch resistance, energy.

This fight is now interesting for me.

Maybe we have finally found Winky's weakness......the flu.
To be honest I think he's a fool to fight in that condition.

Seen the shot of him on fightnews posing with Soliman, he doesn't look gaunt - but he looks ill.

If he is less that 90% then he is either underestimating Soliman and about to make a big mistake, or he really needs the money and fast!!

If he fights at over 90% of his potential then he should still win on points.

Soliman has a shot tonight even if Winky is at or close to 100%

Sam is a wild and unorthodox fighter. He lunges and charges in from all angles and different crouches. I have no doubt that Soliman will hit Winky with at least a few big shots. If Winky had more power I'd say he would be a shoe in for the KO but he doesn't and any type of sickness that slows his reflexes or stunts his stamina is bad news for him. I look for Soliman to have the crowd behind him booing Winky as he runs and going wild after he stuns Wright and lets loose the 1st barrage on the weathering champion. I hope it's a good fight but I'm more looking forward to scoring Hopkins Taylor 2 for myself on the replay tonight.

Agreed, good post. Sam has the potential to unsettle Winky ala Simon and Moseley (in the later rounds of the rematch). Maybe, just maybe...
