Top level? Prime? No.palooka wrote:Collazo does come in very good shape every bout and has his feet on the floor. To be fair to Hatton he was far better at light welter than welter even as an amateur and had problems boxing southpaws. Luis Collazo is a really good fighter and comes across as a very decent man; I think he'll be chasing a lot on Saturday night and he won't like what comes back at him. I'd pick Garcia over Collazo and the Peterson loss was very iffy, Khan is top level and may be just coming into his prime whereas Collazo is a fair bit older and has more miles on the clock. Should be a good fight though.

World title fight in Vegas for a couple of million $ is top level.
27 years old is pretty much physical prime.

I think Riddick is saying he's looked worse in the last year or two than he has before that.palooka wrote:World title fight in Vegas for a couple of million $ is top level.

Plus using money making ability as a reason why he's going to win a fight seems odd. I'd rather go on capability.
Re: Khan-Collazo
yes true, he looked a lot sharper then, now he looks a bit ploddyThereByTheGrace wrote:But that was 7 years ago mate. An awful long time in Boxing.Tuan_Jim wrote:Wow, if Collazo was so vulnerable to body punches you'd have really thought Ricky Hatton would have exploited it.
I think Collazo will be in the sort of shape he was for Hatton, rather than the low profile fight he lost which I suspect had its own storyline.

I wouldnt say the people that Khan fought up until Prescott where bums and novices-guys like Willie Limond, Graham Earl, Michael Gomez (who had him hurt, as did Limond) Stefy Bull, Ryan Barratt-all good pros, not a bum or novice amongst that lot-not world class by any means-but all good pros and all capable at british level.
Khan did negotiate the best deal he could get, and why not? as was proved that night a boxers career can be over in a matter of seconds. They have to secure the best deal they can everytime they fight-why is that greedy?
This whole business is about making money in about the 4/5 years you are at the top if you are lucky. If it was about cups and medals they would stay amateur. I would never call a fighter greedy, they should squeeze every penny they can get out of the game. You might not like Khan but the guy has made the most of what he has to maximise the cash he gets.
I was referring to Prescott's opponents.
Jesus wept almighty.

Riddick mate, you are clouded by the bet. Just sit back and enjoy the fight!Riddick Blowe wrote:I don't think collazo has declined much at all. maybe it's just me...
I can't see Khan being so daft to trade with this guy.

I'm not clouded. I look at Collazo and see a good solid fighter still.ThereByTheGrace wrote:Riddick mate, you are clouded by the bet. Just sit back and enjoy the fight!Riddick Blowe wrote:I don't think collazo has declined much at all. maybe it's just me...

Khan is daft enough to trade with King Kong. Too brave by half. At least 50 per cent too brave.
Anyway, weighin happened. Both bang on the limit.
Re: Khan-Collazo
I don't know a thing about this (version) Collazo to call it, but from my view in Sheffield last April, Khan had hell with that guy and he never really seemed to be able to change his gameplan. Collazo has good recent activity by sounds of it, but I suspect Khan should be able to pepper him and move for 12 rounds to take it, and get a crack at Mayweather later in the year - which I think will be intriguing, for 2 rounds.johnswan1 wrote:It's the most intriguing fight of the weekend.
What I do like is his activity (three fights in the last year while Khan has had just one a year ago), plus the fact that his recent KO win should give him the belief that he can bomb Khan out.
How much of a case can be made for Khan? He has never been the smartest inside or outside the ring. Can he stick to a gameplan through twelve rounds with a big strong Welter like Collazo? If he can then that seems to represent his best chance of victory.
Ok, think I've convinced myself again, Collazo it is.
Re: Khan-Collazo
£100 double Mayweather on points and Khan KO/TKO pays 4.75/1.

It wont be happening later in the year as Khan has got ramadan in during July I think and says he wouldnt be ready to fight in september which is when Floyd said he'll next be fighting.n1ebf wrote:I don't know a thing about this (version) Collazo to call it, but from my view in Sheffield last April, Khan had hell with that guy and he never really seemed to be able to change his gameplan. Re: Khan-Collazo
The last time he fought at Ramadan time, he got knocked out by Prescott, so I don't think he will do that again, fasting and boxing don't go well together.
Re: Khan-Collazo
Khan has already acknowledged he will be smaller than Collazo come the night (tonight) and expects to have to "dig deep" at times. I think he knows he has a job on his hands here.
I don't think a fight between Mayweather and Khan would be out of the question, if Khan is victorious, in say - late 2014, that would allow Khan to get in fighting shape after Ramadan.
Provided Floyd doesn't walk on to a couple himself of course.

I don't know whether to look at him or read him.
Re: Khan-Collazo
Floyd won't be changing the date for anyone, he fights on Cinco de Mayo and Mexican Independence weekend, they're the two most profitable weekends of the year for boxing in the US, if Khan can't fight then, he won't get the fight.n1ebf wrote:Khan has already acknowledged he will be smaller than Collazo come the night (tonight) and expects to have to "dig deep" at times. Does Billy Graham live in Georgia USA? Is he involved in boxing in any way or is he happy retired?Viktor Vaughn wrote:Billy Graham's thoughts on Collazo-Khan
Graham was obsessed with Collazo when I first met him. He's still a fan of the tattooed man, but is going for Khan as long as Amir keeps his sh*t together.
Cheers.

Graham isn't taking into account Khan's last two performances. Again, the concept of Khan 'boxing to a gameplan' rears its ugly head, as if it's in Amir's hands how the fight will go.
Khan can come in looking to 'box to a gameplan and keep it long' all he wants but if Collazo wants a war, he will force Khan into one by virtue of Khan being unable to stay out of trouble for 12 rounds.
Re: Khan-Collazo
Thanks
I always liked how he came across, he was intelligent and knew he'd had a bit of good luck - he wasn't full of his own importance.

A quick search of FM Jr. seems to back you up on that one. Last fought in a December (which is what I was thinking along the lines of because in Britain there's always some good Christmas season match-ups) against Ricky Hatton a while ago. After that it's been pretty much May and September.expe wrote:Floyd won't be changing the date for anyone, he fights on Cinco de Mayo and Mexican Independence weekend, they're the two most profitable weekends of the year for boxing in the US, if Khan can't fight then, he won't get the fight.n1ebf wrote:Khan has already acknowledged he will be smaller than Collazo come the night (tonight) and expects to have to "dig deep" at times. Given his ability I'm sure he could accommodate Khan after Ramadan IF he wanted to - as he isn't getting any younger himself. I'm sure it would still be massive - but he does seem to have a preferred schedule.
On the age point too, I could see Floyd swatting these guys til he's 45 if he wants to, without too much fuss either.
