Froch was ok though to be fair. No doubt he was on wobbly legs but he took a couple of shots after that and took them well.deadpan wrote:If the fight had been the exact reverse, with Groves on his arse and staggering backwards as he got up in the first round I suspect it would've been stopped swiftly thereafter. And the post fight narrative of 'warrior Froch shut the loudmouthed upstart up like he said he would' would have deafened those claiming it an early stoppage.
If the fight had gone into the 9th and Froch was on the receiving end, it would not have been stopped at that point. No chuffing way. With baubles attached.
I'm sorry, nice chap that HF may well be, that suggests an inherent bias.

Froch-Groves was hardly the travesty of the century. If George knew how 'corrupt' british boxing was, he should have ducked more and not given the ref the opportunity to stop the fight. He is a world class bell-end and a sore loser.Tuan_Jim wrote:Well done George Groves. He is well aware he won't be the 'house fighter' and as such will be afforded no 'benefit of the doubt' from the classic British house referee. Curiously, Carl Froch, the champion and star fighter, seems very keen for another British official, those men famously 'queasy' when the underdog appears 'hurt', and yet not when the star fighter is down, or staggering around glassy eyed, or, in the case of Nathan Cleverly, semi-conscious and needing to be carried to his corner.
Please, as fair minded boxing fans who only want the best man to win, let us eradicate bias and corruption from British referees in British rings.

It was a massive travesty.keithmoonhangover wrote:Froch-Groves was hardly the travesty of the century.
It was one of the worst stoppages in a world title fight in boxing's history.
He should have ducked more? It wasn't Groves fault that the fight was stopped early, it was Foster's.keithmoonhangover wrote:If George knew how 'corrupt' british boxing was, he should have ducked more and not given the ref the opportunity to stop the fight. The stoppage was a disgrace.keithmoonhangover wrote:One of the worst stoppages ever. Are you fvcking blind?
If you think it was a good stoppage then you are clueless.

Suppose the ref could have stepped out of the way and let groves crash to the floor before making his decision.Horse wrote:The stoppage was a disgrace.keithmoonhangover wrote:One of the worst stoppages ever. Are you fvcking blind?

Though now he knows how partial some referees are he's gone out of his way to make sure there are no British officials at the rematch.keithmoonhangover wrote:Froch-Groves was hardly the travesty of the century. Re: Corrupt/inept British referees finally a story in the media
I'll just pipe up and say I think the way some on here have talked about Howard Foster is absolutely ridiculous. Yes I absolutely agree that Foster made a mistake in the Froch v Groves fight but in every fight I'v seen him involved in before (and since) he has put in very good refereeing performances.
In my opinion in this country we should press more for neutral officials when our guys are facing foreign opposition in meaningful fights. My understanding is that the boxing commission picks the officials. I notice our IBF title fights tend to have a neutral ref if it's a Brit vs a foreigner over here whereas with our WBO fights (regardless of who is promoting) we sometimes have a British referee. Whether the promoters can say to the commissions words along the lines of 'look can you impose a neutral ref and judges here for the sake of reputability. We're quite happy to pay the necessary expenses' I don't know.

Not sure if it makes a difference how you do it. Many officials are simply swayed by a crowd regardless of nationality. It happens in all sports and is basic psychology. I am not sure for example that Joshua truly deserved his decision over Camarelle in the olympics. I think many "home town" decisions are not necessarily judges being corrupt, but simply swayed by the crowd.
I have seen worse stoppages both on the early and on the late side. The fact that we are arguing about it after having watched replays of the stoppage indicates that people see things in different ways. Foster had a split second to make a decision-most called it early-a few, and I am one of those thought it was right. Groves body language indicated he had had enough ( IMO) I also thought that with that round going to Froch, at the end I had Groves 1 point up, and if Groves had taken a count then I would have had it even.
So not even close to being a travesty of justice imo.
