Terence Crawford takes easy 1st defence..NOT!
Crawford will make the first defence of the WBO lightweight title he took off Ricky Burns against Gamboa on June 28th. Fair play he's certainly not sitting on/milking his title!
Re: Terence Crawford takes easy 1st defence..NOT!
Anyone think burns would have done exactly the same thing.......
Re: Terence Crawford takes easy 1st defence..NOT!
Really interesting fight. Gamboa has great reflexes and athleticism but can be a little chinny at times. I'd probably favour Crawford but I wouldnt be completely confident. I thought Beltran was gonna be getting Crawford next. Feel a little bad for him but this is a good fight so im happy with it

Wow great fight, both these guys are class - just shows how confident everyone is in Tel Crawford - because Gamboa is certainly someone most fighters would steer well clear of.
Hope BN picks this one up

I actually think Gamboa relieves Crawford of his title but massive credit to Crawford for taking the fight. Crawford will be significantly bigger mind; Gamboa is really a featherweight.MightyWarrior wrote:Wow great fight, both these guys are class - just shows how confident everyone is in Tel Crawford - because Gamboa is certainly someone most fighters would steer well clear of.

Lack of activity could really hurt Gamboa aswell I think.black panther wrote:I actually think Gamboa relieves Crawford of his title but massive credit to Crawford for taking the fight. At first glance I like Crawford in this one, though I'm a big fan of Gamboa - but Crawford looked a teak tough and canny operator against Burns. Shapes up to be one of the best matchups of the year.

Although I like Burns as a person, this just massively illustrates the rubbish we're fed by British promoters trying to pass off title defences against sub-standard oppostion. Crawford is facing a better opponent in his first defence than Burns has fought in his entire career.
This story actually makes me glad Burns lost his title.

is Gamboa the one that AAA was always being linked with? From somewhere like Puerto Rica? He was class as an A-grade fighter for years and years but all of his fights seemed to just get cancelled. Very slick. Someone knows who I'm on about..columbo wrote:Lack of activity could really hurt Gamboa aswell I think.black panther wrote:I actually think Gamboa relieves Crawford of his title but massive credit to Crawford for taking the fight. He's Cuban. Very good amateur. Very quick and also hit's pretty hard. His career has been a bit all over the place though as he's not fought anywhere near enough due to promotional difficulties and somewhat laziness possibly. Very talented though.n1ebf wrote:is Gamboa the one that AAA was always being linked with? From somewhere like Puerto Rica? Does ne1bf follow boxing or just pop on here every now and again with wild guesses?Counter-puncher wrote:you mean Joan Guzmann1ebf wrote:

Fancy Crawford a LOT here. Gamboa isn't the fighter he used to be, from his last 2 fights he's hardly even a shadow of what he used to be. A guy who has a a tough night with Farrenas isn't beating Crawford any time soon.

I'm massively impressed with young Terence. Far more skilled than Gamboa, who is probably a better athlete & harder hitter.
Though I will say Gamboa is fuckin' HUGE at any weight, there's a notorious picture of him out of training next to Guerrero (at the time Gamboa got mentioned for PED use, something that has since disappeared), & he fcuking dwarfs Guerrero in the shoulders & upper body...

Good fight, I'm going crawford all the way here. Gamboa is too reckless, he's been put down quite a few times in his pro career. Ive only seen crawford in the burns fight and was very impressed, especially to say he was in burns back yard aswell.

I think Gamboa's probably the most overrated boxer in the world right now,iv'e seen him a few times now and have never been that impressed,he seems like a typical Cuban pro,has lived the sport all his life and by the time he defects,he's lost his hunger, which is understandable as iv'e seen clips of him driving about in Miami in his convertible etc so he's already a millionaire i pressume,it's a similar situation with Odlanier Solis, world class amateur, super talented but just doesnt have the desire and dedication to stay at the top
It's funny i think Cubans hate the pro game and i'd be surprised of any of the current pros watched boxing

Rigondeaux seems a bit different in that regard.handsofstone wrote:I think Gamboa's probably the most overrated boxer in the world right now,iv'e seen him a few times now and have never been that impressed,he seems like a typical Cuban pro,has lived the sport all his life and by the time he defects,he's lost his hunger, which is understandable as iv'e seen clips of him driving about in Miami in his convertible etc so he's already a millionaire i pressume,it's a similar situation with Odlanier Solis, world class amateur, super talented but just doesnt have the desire and dedication to stay at the top

Just because some has a nice car doesn't mean they have an awful lot of money; I'd have not imagined that Gamboa was a millionaire who felt he could lay back and take it easy. There are loads of Cubans living in Miami and he may be flavour of the month with some of the more successful ones.handsofstone wrote:I think Gamboa's probably the most overrated boxer in the world right now,iv'e seen him a few times now and have never been that impressed,he seems like a typical Cuban pro,has lived the sport all his life and by the time he defects,he's lost his hunger, which is understandable as iv'e seen clips of him driving about in Miami in his convertible etc so he's already a millionaire i pressume,it's a similar situation with Odlanier Solis, world class amateur, super talented but just doesnt have the desire and dedication to stay at the top
