Cruciate ligament and cartilage operation

Post by Bleak »

Would it be considered to risky n dangerous to get back in the gym after rehab from the operation above? Would likento return but any one with advise would be welcomed.

could u not just work on other body parts until it feels strong enough? I would suggest starting very very slowly and listening to whatever your body is telling you. Would it not be advisable to do some water based exercise to start?

I'm assuming its the ACL... Ligaments heal very slow- like at 8 weeks, you'll feel strong enough to start activity, but that's when its still dangerously weak.

At least 10 weeks to begin.

Cartilage doesn't "heal". It has little/no blood supply so if you have surgery, it'll be to clean it up or remove part of it.

Your surgeon will send you to a physical therapist who will have a list of do's and don't's....

I'd leave the timeline to them.

I had my ACL done a few years back now it took me over a year to gain full fitness and confidence in it.

Forget the running, worst thing you could do, hammer the swimming m8 it builds the muscle up around the cruciate to compensate for its current weaknesses.
