Frampton v Martinez
In the IFL tv interview Mr Hearn intimates that Cyclone promotions have managed to pull this off. Might be a few weeks/months before it is announced mind you.
Thoughts?

Re: Frampton v Martinez
I'd rather have Frampton vs Santa Cruz and Quigg vs Martinez.
Re: Frampton v Martinez
Actually would be interested to see this fight Martinez seems to have grown as a fighter since becoming champ and he wasn't exactly out of his depth first time round
Re: Frampton v Martinez
Santa Cruz wasnt willing to fight Frampton yet apparantly. He said he wanted to fight Quigg first and get a hold of that belt and then fight Frampton around December time. He also said that he thought Frampton was the better of the two.Horse wrote:I'd rather have Frampton vs Santa Cruz and Quigg vs Martinez.
Re: Frampton v Martinez
I hope it happens for Carl as he deserves a shot at the world title,,
still a pity Quigg and Frampton does not happen before one of them is beaten,,
I think Quigg will be beaten the first time he steps up, but you never know,,
massive unification fight for winter time would be great all the same

Re: Frampton v Martinez
Frampton-Martinez 2 and quigg-santa cruz are amazing fights.
Martinez really has gained some momentum, winning three IBF title fights (2 away from home) by stoppage - and this could be a tougher fight. Frampton's looked razor sharp (indeed, he impressed stopping Martinez) but the Spaniard is going to be very hard to deny while in his peak.
really hope quigg-santa cruz happens. a good scalp for quigg because the Mexican is a world title holder in two weights. it'll be hard for quigg vs a guy experienced in the trenches but I like his body punching and indeed his full repertoire to pull off a memorable win. it'll be hard but this is the style of opponent quigg could really show his stuff against.

No love for Rigondeaux?Horse wrote:I'd rather have Frampton vs Santa Cruz and Quigg vs Martinez.
That's a surprise!

Rigondeaux is just generally overlooked. Everytime they talk about "World Champions" he never ever gets a mention.ttornado wrote:No love for Rigondeaux?Horse wrote:I'd rather have Frampton vs Santa Cruz and Quigg vs Martinez.

I suppose the term too good for his own good would be the best way to discribe him.

Plus the fact that he is incredibly boring. Lets be honest who enjoys watching him? He's in the same bracket as Mayweather and Klitschko either as a purest you love them or as a fight fan you don't like them and I guess most people are in the second camp. Mayweather has the slight advantage as he's American and as everything works from America outwards it's the only reason Mayweather has any real appeal at all.
All three are too good for their own good but all three in a defensive keep out of the way, don't get hit way. None of them come to fight.
Let them all fight each other first then lets see who is the number one challenger to Rigo then make the fight.
Re: Frampton v Martinez
I do enjoy watching him myself but then I enjoy the slicksters more than the brawlers to an extent. I guess that's why I enjoy Wlad aswell to a large extent (bar the clinching I mean)Ian1973 wrote:pyenest77 wrote:Rigondeaux is just generally overlooked. I enjoyed the Donaire fight. The Agbeko fight less so, but I don't blame Rigondeaux for that shocker.Ian1973 wrote: Plus the fact that he is incredibly boring. Lets be honest who enjoys watching him?

Quite a step-up for Galahad that fight.Horse wrote:Rigondeaux vs Galahad.

Who would you want to win?
Quigg should be forced to fight Rigondeaux or stripped of the WBA (regular/interim) strap.
Re: Frampton v Martinez
I'd want Galahad to win. I don't think he'd be very likely to pull it off though.ttornado wrote:Quite a step-up for Galahad that fight.

Re: Frampton v Martinez
Fanbases and the amount of money each guy can generate is what separates the other 2 names you mentioned from Rigo. Mayweather and Vitali can pack arenas and stadiums in the US and Germany respectively. From that enormous amounts of money can be generated. Rigo doesn't have this luxury, and a lot of people moan that Mr Hearn and Mr McGuigan won't mention Guillermo Rigondeaux, but if they were promoters they wouldn't be going near the guy either. It just doesn't make business sense at all to throw your prize asset in with a guy who is so good but who makes so little in the way of reward.Ian1973 wrote:pyenest77 wrote:Rigondeaux is just generally overlooked. Galahad would be very likely to make it into round 3.funtime wrote:I think he'd be lucky to see the end of round 2.
Rigondeaux is not some wrecking machine. He's overrated.

He is getting to be overrated now yes. Almost mythical.Horse wrote:Galahad would be very likely to make it into round 3.funtime wrote:I think he'd be lucky to see the end of round 2.

He's very good, but the way some people talk about him like he's unbeatable boxing perfection is far too much.DMA1987 wrote:He is getting to be overrated now yes. Almost mythical.

Re: Frampton v Martinez
I agree, he's always been a handful but he seems to have improved massively since his title win. I'm reasonably confident that Frampton can beat him again BUT I wouldn't be surprised if Martinez gained his revenge ...littlepug wrote:Actually would be interested to see this fight Martinez seems to have grown as a fighter since becoming champ and he wasn't exactly out of his depth first time round
Re: Frampton v Martinez
okay but quigg would stand to gain the WBC belt held by 2-weight titlist leo santa cruz, a real handful, a credible name on the world scene and also an attractive one. this is the fight santa cruz appears to be interested in.ttornado wrote:Quite a step-up for Galahad that fight.Horse wrote:Rigondeaux vs Galahad.

Re: Frampton v Martinez
there's loads of attractive matches to be made at 122, a weight class known for its gritty performers, a weight class distinguished by such rivalries as Vazquez-marquez, barrera-morales & Zaragoza-banke.pyenest77 wrote:Rigondeaux is just generally overlooked. rigondeaux, with his pernell whitaker way of dominating with agile southpaw boxing, just isn't attractive. it's unfortunate for him but true - and who'd want to put their fighter in there with him for an absolute undressing? - especially when American television don't seem too interested.

Re: Frampton v Martinez
And if Quigg beat Rigondeaux, Quigg can then call himself the WBA champ without feeling like a fraud.Autobarn wrote:okay but quigg would stand to gain the WBC belt held by 2-weight titlist leo santa cruz, a real handful, a credible name on the world scene and also an attractive one. this is the fight santa cruz appears to be interested in.
Also Rigo will fight for less and in the UK.
Re: Frampton v Martinez
nothing fraudulent fighting a fan favourite 2 weight belt holder in santa cruz.
also, nothing dull about it either.
I believe quigg, when he puts his shots together, hits with more conviction than anyone in the uk or Ireland. the santa cruz fight, for me, is the next step in his development.
none out of quigg, Martinez & Frampton are ready for the Cuban, yet. and even when they are, it's going to be terribly difficult in there. whoever gets the assignment needs a steep learning curve, loads of confidence & of course home advantage.
