Javier Castellejo is the only other one I've personally seen who might fit that category.

I looked up the Spanish PFP on here, and I have to admit, I didn't really know much about the guys who showed up. Most were significantly before my time and I hadn't heard of them anyway. Someone with more historical knowledge might have more to contribute.

Not that he's an all-timer or even P4P in this era but Gabriel Campillo would be held in much higher esteem were it not for flat-out robberies at the hands of Shumenov and Cloud.

I haven't seen his fights in Germany v Murat (0-1-1) so I can't comment...

Paolino Uzcudun was a Basque heavyweight in the '20/'30s. He beat Harry Wills and Max Baer, and lost to Primo Carnera, Max Schmeling and got flattened by Joe Louis in his last fight.

Jose Duran is probably the best fighter that I can recall from Spain and should probably top their P4P lists. A genuine world champ in the 70s @ Light middle. Good fighter. I think Jim Watt and Charlie Magri chinned a couple spaniards for european belts they didnt tend to travel well except in 1595 when the scoundrels attacked the Cornish Coast.

If you go to Mousehole in Cornwall there is a plaque on the wall from when the town was raided and destroyed by the Spanish :shame:

And the plaque reads " Squire Jenkyn Keigwin was killed here 23rd July 1595 defending this house against the Spaniards "

What a cool way to go. Fighting Spaniards.

When we look at the lightest divison we find Victor Ferrand who who held the European title and fought some of the best flyweights including Frankie Genaro. In the bantamweight divison not only Baltasar Sangchili fought for the world title but also Gregorio Vidal and Luis Romero. José Girones was a good European featherweight champion although his title fight with Freddie Miller was brief.
Hilario Martinez did pretty well also in the USA and Latin America as a light- and welterweight, although his fight with Joe Dundee is no longer listed as a world title fight. Ignacio Ara, another traveler, fought for the world middleweight title. Paulino (Uzcudun) has been mentioned and he was European champion and also fought for the world title. Alfredo Evangelista, although born in Uruguay, as Spanish citizen became European heavyweight champion and fought for the world title too.

Perico Fernandez had over 100 fights and mixed with the best.

Unfortunately I only saw him at the end of his career against one of my favourites Sylvester Mittee.
