Macklin vs Geale called off??

Post by Boxerbeetle »

Lots of rumours Geale has pulled out of the fight & the show is cancelled, anyone know if this is true? Gutted if so.

He's supposed to be fighting GGG now, isn't he?

Poor form from Geale if he's pulled out just so he can fight GGG. GGG will destroy Geale anyway, hopefully Macklin will fight Murray or Andy Lee instead. Or JCC Jr actually, that would be a good fight.

Initially I thought this was Geale's fault but apparantly it's because Mike Perez has pulled out of his fight with Bryant Jennings (another quality fight) injured and HBO didnt think Macklin-Geale was a good enough main event and the heavyweight fight was supposed to be the headliner. Seems silly to me.

Can't blame a man for pulling out to fight the top dog

Exactly, he's only got one career and has probably been wafted some decent green, so yeah it's a shame for Macklin but that's life.

I can understand pulling out pre-training camp, but I still think pulling out just 2 weeks away from the fight is poor form. Having said that, it sounds like the fight was called off by HBO rather than Geale, so I guess he can do what he wants now.

Golovkin vs Geale
Macklin vs Lee

I'd be happy with that.

Lee has gone down to light middleweight for some reason.

Shame, they looked like two really good 50-50 fights.

Macklin-Geale wasn't a good enough main event, but Perez-Jennings was? HBO can be bizarre at times.

Macklin v Geale would've been a great fight, Golovkin will destroy Geale.

As a fight fan I'm well pissed off with this.

Above are reasons why Showtime is destroying HBO for the past while. Getting Hershman from Showtime was a terrible move.
