Hearns vs Taylor ? Hearns vs McLellan ?

Post by alisonmiller »

Anbody any ideas on how the Hit Man would have done against Jermain Taylor and McLellan ?

I think he could have knocked out Taylor but against McLellan who could punch with him - i don't know ?

If Tommy catches them early with the type of punches he staggered Haglar with then the're done. But Gerald and Jermaine would fight too cautiously at the start for that to happen and untimately prove too strong and too hard punching for the Hit man. Gerald would get him mid rounds, Taylor would get him late.

Hearns didn't beat many good middles, he was KO'd by Hagler and Barkley, but beat Schuler and Roldan. i never really class Tommy as a middle, even though he won a title there. I think McClellan's too big and powerful for him. McClellan was a monster middle, as we saw in his two KO's of Julian Jackson

I liked McClellan a lot (but I will say his victories over J. Jackson were definitely over a post-prime Jackson. By that time Jackson had lost quite a bit of hand speed / punching speed) -

Nevertheless I think McClellan at MW would have had an excellent chance at KO'ing Hearns within the first 4 rounds - After that Hearns might have had the edge -

Hearns would have easily beat J. Taylor (IMO). And I could see him winning by both KO or UNI DEC -

Hearns-McClellan would be some fight. Tommy's hand speed and movement allow him to land cleanly and regularly. I also thinkMcClellan ahd a poor defence. BUT, as ever, I always fear for Tommy above 154 against big punchers. If McClellan tags him early in a round then Hearns could unravel.

If McClellan could withstand a few right hands, because I see Tommy gettig to him first, then he can win, but at some point he will land and that's why I'd pick him in this fight.

I can't see taylor beating Hearns. I'd pick Tommy by UD

quite true. more importantly, jackson had lost quite a bit of sight by that point.

Hearns kos Taylor in one or two rounds. Jermain seems to like the idea of getting hit with rights when he reaches with that jab. Hearns would take it to him and hit that hook to the body then hit him with a right. Hearns would lose to McClellan.

I think Tommy Hearns would have beaten Jermain Taylor, but I suspect Gerald McClellan would have kod Tommy, based on the fact that GMc both took and delivered a tremendous punch, and Tommy was a natural welterweight / light middleweight. Pound for pound, Tommy Hearns is miles ahead of both Jermain Taylor and Gerald McClellan though
