Matt Skelton/Lonsdale Belt

Post by ILikeBeer »

The pundits were talking about Matt Skelton winning the Lonsdale belt in his next fight last night. But on thinking about it, Skelton has defended the British title 3 times already, has he not? He defended it successfully against Keith Long, then against Mark Krence then against John McDermott.

Have I misunderstood something, or should he already have it?

Was one of them a mandatory challenger?

I don't know actually. Krence can't have been because he was a last minute challenger. But I am unsure whether the other two are or not. I guess one of them must've been, I didn't think of that. :box:

Wasn't Long a mandatory? I thought it was odd... I thought if he hadn't fulfilled his mandatory then he could make a 3rd defense of the title. Didn't Scott Dann have some problems because of this when the Elcock fight was first postponed?

I thought about this. am never sure about the rules for winning a Lonsdale, some fighters seem to do it quicker than others. Thought Skelton should have one now.

Does the WBU fight break his run? could that be it?

No, long wasn't a mandatory defence, Danny Williams was but obviously he pulled out so therefore he must defend again against whoever the board install as mandatory. This will probably be either Scott Gammer (who looked vunerble last night) or Danny Williams (although the board may not risk him after last time).
