Is Danny more overrated then Audley?

Post by ILikeBeer »

Don't get me wrong, I am not asking if Danny Williams is better then Audley, I think Audley lost fair and square last night. His work rate was just not good enough.

However, Danny was presented by an opponent who just did not seem to want to fight back, and only had one real chance of knocking him out, which he couldn't follow up with. Danny Williams just could not knock out an unmoving opponent, and couldn't even get a unanimous decision. Hell, he even looked like he might get knocked out himself at one point.

On looking at other websites, there is the expected Audley bashing, and a fair bit of rejoicing that Audley was finally 'exposed'. This is not what bothers me, as Audley just wasn't good enough last night. However, from what I've seen people are bigging up Danny like he is Muhammad Ali, when all he did was struggle to beat a less then mediocre opponent. I'm not asking is Audley better then Danny, because he clearly wasn't last night. But at least many people realise how bad Audley can be. Most people still seem under the impression that Danny is some world class boxer when in truth he is only slightly better then Audley at times?

Fair play to Williams, he'll get into the ring with just about anybody, but people big him up to be better then he is. Why is this? Or am I missing something?

Danny had made his limitations against the world class operaters clear before hand.
But he is good enough to expose other fighters limitations also.

Does that make him a gatekeeper to world class?

Lets not be too harsh on Danny, he did what he said and exposed Audley.

He showed Audley is scared to get involved, he showed Audley ain`t no big puncher even though he is massive, he showed Audley has low stamina and most of all he showed Audley cannot take a serious shot...the punch that put him down landed more on his shoulder and slid up to the side of his head.

I can`t see anybody giving Danny the Ali treatment, just a big well done...he is back my number one hero :TU:

I would say Tonyevs that Sinan Samil Sam isn't world class, but is a gate keeper. Danny is a notch below him. If Danny lost a few stone then he could be world class, he is too slow now.

I agree that Sam is a notch above Danny, but Sam would make a fight with any of the world champions where as Danny would get widely outpointed in a one sided affair.

The current top guys are so poor that ordinarily Sam would be a gatekeeper, but as poor as the top guys are that means Sam enters the world scene.

Danny is too heavy, when you're going around at almost 20 stone thats when you pick up injuries like sprained ankles. Danny would be much better if he could get down to 252 at least... but maybe he just can't shift the weight anymore. Personally I think Matt Skelton is the best out of the lot now and I think he will outwork Williams if they eventually fight...

Not recently though, laboured to a controvesial win over Clay Bey gets outclassed vs Maskaev is hardly world class, even now.

Still think an in shape Williams beats Sam (especially now) but Williams' isn't in shape and not likely too be in the future.

Danny Williams performed to his level. He is just an average fighter, that's why Audley 'Parcel Force' Harrison should hang his head in shame!

I've seen Danny much better than he was last night which makes Audelys 'performance' all the worse really as Williams was so slow he looked ripe for being outboxed but Harrison was too scared to throw any meaningful punches....
