Re: Help me please !
Hello there. I was for a few years one of britains busiest fighters having 100 fights. I'm training a couple of fighters in canning town.london.after taking a few months break from boxing I'm looking to take a few more fighters and making myself busy again.feel free to come down and I'll have a look at ya. No skin off my nose if you don't fancy it.
Re: Help me please !
You would do worse than sign for Johnny in London. Maybe Carl Greaves would be good he puts on regular show.

100 % right.though there are more jobs going in London to earn you money for living.& I'd put any fighter I had Carl's way anyhow.carl is without a doubt one of the best managers in the game.pyenest77 wrote:You would do worse than sign for Johnny in London. Re: Help me please !
Thank you for your replies, but even if my name "thefrenchjourneyman" let think I have no ambitions in boxing, this is wrong at this time. I have create this account when my amateur career is very bad (2 wins, 13 looses, all at points), but since this moment I have win a lot of fights and change my mind. Today I want to work with the best coachs in UK and that's why I have post this topic. If you know people who can help me, let me know please. (If you want know more about my career, my website : http://louvrierduring.e-monsite.com/ ).

I'm sorry but my english is to bad, I have think you just want I become a journeyman ("though there are more jobs going in London to earn you money for living", "Maybe Carl Greaves would be good he puts on regular show")
If I go to London, It's not just to earn money with little jobs, but to perfect my boxing style to professionnal boxing, I never permit me to say Johnny or Carl Greaves are bad persons for this
Re: Help me please !
I agree with the sentiment, however I also think that Johnny was out of order in his reply - assuming that the OP is genuine, there is clearly a language/translation issue.billy bessey wrote:Well said Jonny unless you're a ticket seller a journeyman or a world beater there's hardly any chance of you getting fights let alone getting anywhere in pro boxingjohnnygreaves wrote:After reading that I'll withdraw my offer of help.im not just training journeymen.i didn't assume that's the route you wanted to go down.if you can get any (top coaches) to even look at you I'll eat humble pie but sir.you don't sound like a world beater and without being that or a big ticket seller other than boxing in the away Corner you ain't got a chance Good luck sir!
To be fair, the comment "After reading that I'll withdraw my offer of help" did make me laugh - it was a bit of a "do you know who I am" moment (and no offence - you are not quite in the same league as Freddy Roach).

to be fair I see where your coming from.in my defence yesterday was a long day What I'm saying is that with his record.theres more chance of me winning the lotto than any top trainer even looking at him with a record like that.even small hall promoters wouldn't put u on the home side unless you sell 100 tickets.going on the road is your only option.as far as going on the road goes.i know a lot more than most.i genuinely wish the lad well but being a top am or selling a bundle of tickets is the only way youll even get any of the uk's best to even talk to you.im not in any way saying I'm great but wouldve happily took time to see the kid.bripez wrote:I agree with the sentiment, however I also think that Johnny was out of order in his reply - assuming that the OP is genuine, there is clearly a language/translation issue.billy bessey wrote:Well said Jonny unless you're a ticket seller a journeyman or a world beater there's hardly any chance of you getting fights let alone getting anywhere in pro boxingjohnnygreaves wrote:After reading that I'll withdraw my offer of help.im not just training journeymen.i didn't assume that's the route you wanted to go down.if you can get any (top coaches) to even look at you I'll eat humble pie but sir.you don't sound like a world beater and without being that or a big ticket seller other than boxing in the away Corner you ain't got a chance Good luck sir!

Ok mate no worries, I do agree with what you are saying (hopefully I didn't come across as being too much of a prick ......)
Re: Help me please !
Its something thats been touched on before but it is very strange how, with noticeable ex-pat populations especially in London, very little appears to be done to market boxers like this fella or the Europeans Goodwin regularly uses, to their compatriots over here. Not saying turn them into home fighters but making them aware that one of their own is fighting can bring out casual fans

Would you say then if you were late into the game but have all the talent in the world but have no amateur experience and don't shift any tickets you will not make it in this sport? Basically it's not all about talent then??

Sounds like it's the case. I guess the only way round it is if the person promoting you see's that you have a lot of ability and are willing to incur losses at the beginning for possible rewards in the future.
Re: Help me please !
I don't think it matters how old you are mate - if you can either shift a load of tickets (I understand that 100 tickets at £30 or £40 a pop is considered basic) or have say an Olympic medal that will get your face on tv to build your profile, then you are ok - otherwise it is very difficult.TopGun wrote:

I know of novice pros who were told that if they did not sell at least 100 tickets then they would not be used again.
There are pro's out there who are paid a commission or even "paid" in tickets !
There is also another route - being taken by Hughie Fury. Not only will Fury fight on a promotion for free, but his manager will also pay his opponents purse - the promoter thereby gets a free fight for his promotion.
It is a pretty sad state of affairs.
A decent amateur (say ABA champion) who (in the beginning) can only shift a few tickets, will have little chance of progressing, let alone a more average amateur.

Re: Help me please !
That's what they did in advising Carl greaves.carl has a few boys winning or capable of winning titles.as well as journeymen.now I'm not wrong in saying that unless you sell a 100 tickets you won't get the chance to be home and maybe win a few.its not right but them the rules.who is gonna lose money on a boy that's won two from 12 am fights.i withdrew because I was willing to see the kid.in my time for no reward.you think anyone else will?if the guy wants to work with the best he does need to be told the craic.no.its a business guys.theres no go in I'll take a risk and lose money in this game.unless your a top fighter.which without seeing him it dont look that way with that record.im not nasty.just honest.if the guy wants to meet I'll explain the ins and outs of British pro boxing.didnt mean to sound bad.wasnt meant that wayTrojans44 wrote:Jeezo guys there's enough insiders on this forum who know enough to give the bloke some actual advice. In MMA it is skills that pay the bills. You can rise pretty fast if you work hard enough, why is boxing so different at the lower end? It seems a boxing card is built around the boxers, whereas an MMA show is just well, a show.

Your right but a pro boxer wouldn't fight for the money you get on the average British mma show. I fought on a couple while unlicensed.ufc fighters get paid well because its the big time in mma.to make money on a show at say,the troxy you still need to sell tickets.carlbcfc wrote:In MMA it is skills that pay the bills. Re: Help me please !
Actually mate lots of MMA fighters in the UFC get paid very little. I recall Mark Hominicks base purse for a "world title fight" against one of the p4p best Jose Aldo was .....wait for it.... $3,000! I kid you not! Luckily he made a good fight of it and won a huge bonus but he was close to being stopped Odin the first round. If that had happened... it means it took him 10 years as a pro MMA fighter to earn a title shot and make 3k (dollars) which is around 2k sterling. Shocking.johnnygreaves wrote:Your right but a pro boxer wouldn't fight for the money you get on the average British mma show. The guy may have a bad record , BUT could end up one of the most valuable members in the gym , he may be an ackward tough southpaw . , he may be a really good talented lad with exceptional defence , he may be like LOTS and LOTS of others that all trainers have seen , The kid with more talent than 6 world champs put together , who just cannot perform out side of the gym . These sort of guys are in abudance , and these are the guys who trainers like Johnny need , to help bring along the boxers he has got .
They don't need to be insulted , with i'll rescind my offer , by a guy who has only just started training boxers , like someone else said , Johnny is'nt excatly Fredie Roach . You never know he may be a flat footed puncher who was'nt suited to the one punch and run style the ameteurs have been producing for a couple of years ,
Regards tickets , who knows , maybee he comes out like Tyson black shorts , charisma written all over him , knocks out his opponent with the first punch , calls all english a mob of basteeds , gets the crowd worked up and instantly becomes a top draw , or maybee he has the skills of Julian Lorcy (who remembers him )
Or maybee he's just average , but wants to learn and becomes a good asset to the gym ,, I did'nt read into his post anything except he wants to learn from a decent coach , and up to now he's not been told where to go . He's only been insulted with a offer thats then been rescinded , Publicly ,
