Lee Selby

Post by lefty »

Eddie has been talking about wanting Selby to fight Donaire in a final eliminator for the WBC title. It's bloody bizarre. Why would a big name like Donaire want to fight Selby (probably in the uk) in a final eliminator for the WBC title? Also doesnt Eddie know that Donaire is challenging for the WBA belt in Macau coming up http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/boxing ... Selby.html

Just name dropping, zero chance of the fight happening.

I think Donaire would whoop Selby's ass anyway to be honest.

No chance in hell would Hearn make this fight. Pitching Selby against Donaire in his first step-up to world level would be extremely poor matchmaking - talk about sink or swim!

Hearn said: 'Saturday is a huge night for Selby, who is not only a Welshman fighting at home but is also a fight or two away from fighting for the WBC title.

'I really like Nonito Donaire next for Selby. There are talks of him moving up to featherweight and we could make that as a final eliminator for a shot at Jhonny Gonzalez, the WBC champion.

'I have reached out to Top Rank and it is a fight I’d love to make.'
Donaire is fighting Vetyeka for the WBA featherweight title. Hearn doesn't seem to know what is going on.

Donaire would beat Selby easily far better fights at featherweight for him than this one

Donaire is a quality fighter. A lot seem to have a negative opinion of him now because of the Rigondeaux fight which is stupid. Just shows how good Rigo is.

He looked awful against Darchinyan as well.

Yeah admittedly i'd forgotten about that fight! That was his first fight post rigo though so maybe there was a confidence element to that aswell. Also I think Darchinyan fought a lot better in that rematch. A lot smarter.

My guess is that its promotional contract renewal time coming up soon and this is a bit of reassure that the grass is still greener in the Matchroom meadows...

Didn't look good against Narvaez, Mathebula or Vazquez Jr

Donaire can be a bit power happy, I think against Narvaez or Mathebula every shot, power power instead of setting them up.understandable with that type of finishing power though! Maybe lost a step in speed ?
I'd like to see Selby against him at some point

It's just waffle and name dropping from Hearn - zero chance of it even being discussed with Arum

Donaire can be power happy, but Selby has been tagged far too often in his recent fights. If Selby tried to stand & trade with Donaire, he'd get sparked sharpish.
