OVERHAND RIGHT!!!!!!

Post by KOJOE90 »

In 1976 what do you think would have been the outcome if Jimmy Young had fought Joe Bugner over 12 rounds?

Joe Bugner

Who's hands would be raised in victory at the end of this one? :box: :box: :TU:

maybe a notch better than the Byrd Young theo..I postulated. How did this not happen? Wasn't the public demanding it? What was the age difference in real time? The exhilration of just imagining this showdown.....or would it be a showup?

I'd go with Bugner prime vs prime I think he might have been better capable of fighting on the offense which Is how I think it would go. Bugner being the aggressor and being able to prosecute mildly effectively to win a major ho hummer of a decision.

Now if Jimmy was facing Small Joe, the outcome would be very different.

I think the young that fought Foreman, Ali and Norton would win on points over Bugner. It would be a very close fight but Young had the edge in power and his jab would give Joe a lot of trouble. I really would have liked to see Young vs Holmes... that'd be a real interesting fight. I go for Holmes but it would be a good match... if you like that sort of thing!...

Hmm Young had the edge in power? It may be so, but I'm not on board. I was leaning the other way. But it's a battle of powderpuff power I suppose. Sort of like the china chin Patterson/Jones Discussion.

If they both turned up to the fight 'mentaly up' for the fight it could be interesting from a technical poit of view.

The Young who fought Lyle & Foreman vs the Bugner who fought Frazier & Dunn.

I have Bugner vs Ali 1 and 2 and Lyle and he doesn't give a bed effort in either of these bouts either... I think Bug is very unfairly criticised in some quarters.

I agree and as much appreciation as I have for Young, I think Bugner is 1/2 a notch north of Young.

foreman TKO 4 bugner - say all u want about his chin, but his chin was dentable and certainly enough to be stopped by a big puncher like foreman.

If it was dentable why was he never koed aside from his early loss when he was just 17?. He fought Lyle, Frazier, Shavers etc... Shavers stopped him on cuts but thats it... even his loss to Bruno at 37 was not a clean ko.
In his prime Bugner had the speed to have a chance at outboxing Foreman like Young did... I can see him lasting the distance at least even if not winning.

On the Bugner-Foreman debate there's no doubt that foreman is the greater fighter but Bugner is not a fighter George would want to face. Bugner would take him down the stretch and the late rounds would be very very hard on Foreman.

Bugner was much tougher than he is given credit for... how many fighters have been the distance with Ali (twice) Frazier and Lyle... if Joe got past the early rounds against Foreman without getting cut then he'd make things uncomfortable for him.

And Joe took a great punch and was crafty. He rarely took a flush shot. His style wasn't that exciting but he was always going to make it hard on his opponent.

..young's most impressive fights..at least as i recall...were against big wide open sluggers....(except for his out tricking the wide open mouthed ali)

on that basis i'd go with bugner. young is a tough fantasy match fighter, though....blew hot and cold and unpredictable.
