Fernando Vargas vs Terry Norris. What If?

Post by KOJOE90 »

Two Light-Middleweight punchers who both visited the canvas many times during their careers.

But if they had been around at the same time who would have won?

Terry Norris

:box:

I think this could have been a great fight.

Terry would have the advantage of handspeed and footwork. If he stay outside and boxed & moved, he'd give Vagras a boxing lesson.

Vargas would have to cut the ring off, try to counter-punch Terry and break him down. If Norris got careless, Vargas would catch him with some power-shots and possibly KO him.

However, I'd pick Norris in this match-up by UD; he'd make sure to move & box.

I see Terry overwhelming Vargas from the beginning and stopping him mid to late rounds.

I'd pick Norris in this one. When "on" Norris was a great fighter, too quick and skilled for an "on" Vargas.

and we saw too little of an on form Vargas. he didn't look good vs Winky, was spanked by Tito and DLH. when we think of a top quality Vargas it's usually based on a couple of fights, i.e. Quartey, Yori Boy. Norris was an excellent fighter and would've been too dynamic imo

Terry Norris would probably K.O. Vargas early (1st or 2nd round). Norris was as explosive as Vargas is slow and deliberate. Vargas wouldnt know what hit him. A prime Norris would also probably K.O. Trinidad in the same way.

Norris was an incredibly agile boxer, who could pounce from different angles. Vargas wouldn't see a lot of them coming. We've seen what happens to Vargas when hit regularly, and Norris hits with more speed, precision and power than DLH.

I really liked the way Terry could bounce in, engage, bounce out, come back in at angles, and do it all over again. He'd be way too active for Fernando.

Agreed that Norris would KO Vargas, but not sure Norris would KO Trinidad.

Now that WOULD be a fight, Norris v Trinidad WOW

Norris UD Vargas, with a few (potentially very) shaky moments along the way. Vargas's legs would probably go a few times as well.

As for Norris - Trinidad: I see Trinidad getting tuned up for a few rounds (eyes swollen, etc), then in the fourth catching Norris for a brutal ten count, perhaps producing one of the most violent and savage finishes in modern highlight tape history.

Both these fights would be memorable wars.

True, but Vargas did show a great fighting heart against De La Hoya & Trinidad.

Battle of the shaky chins, I'd go with Norris, he just was a little better than Vargas in more areas. He also was super slick when he was on. Norris by mid round TKO.

Norris had a far weaker chin than Vargas. Norris had great ability, but Vargas had a huge punch and a better chin. If they went to war early, Vargas KOs Norris in 2.
