Is Floyd Mayweather really The Best Ever (TBE)?
I'm seeing some people refer to Floyd Mayweather as TBE (The Best Ever).
That's what he calls himself "TBE".
What do you think? Is Floyd really the best ever, or is the TBE someone else like Muhammed Ali, Sam Langford, Harry Greb or Sugar Ray Robinson?
Let's settle this once and for all.

No he's not.
No he's not.
Re: Is Floyd Mayweather really The Best Ever (TBE)?
easy answer.
TBE = which prime form beats any boxer in a p4p sense
so, who is the best ever in the very important departmants
speed/reflexes/athletic = prime jones
power = julian jackson/edwin valero
defence = floyd
ring IQ = floyd/leonard/robinson/pepp......a lot of boxers, hard to say 1
chin = toney/holyfield/tua....same as ring IQ..a lot
overall = prime jones, had more power, was faster and had same or even better cat like reflexes than floyd...., but floyd is top 10

There is no Boxer that has ever existed that would beat every potential opponent they could ever face. Not even guys in their own weight class.Chepppaaa wrote:easy answer.

There's always somebody out there that just has your number, and is all wrong for you. No matter who you are.

He is definitely The Best Ever when it comes to getting absurd paydays for fights that the general public doesn't care about I'll give him that.bnovelist wrote:Yes.......

Floyd isn't enough of a ring warrior to be TBE. He cherry-picks instead of going for greater challenges.
Sam Langford who started at lightweight was shorter and has a shorter reach than Floyd, yet he fought everybody, including heavyweights. Henry Armstrong and Harry Greb were fearless warriors who fought anybody, including bigger opponents. Roberto Duran went up to middleweight and defeated Iran Barkley without demanding a catch weight.
Floyd had Saul Alvarez drain down to 152 instead of fighting him at 154. Perhaps the weight didn't make a difference, but the catch weight showed Floyd lacks the courage of those great boxers. And the glove demand with Maidana further illustrates my point - if he really were the best ever, he wouldn't have needed to do that.

Re: Is Floyd Mayweather really The Best Ever (TBE)?
An impossible question ever really so many arguments can be made and like someone said every boxer would have someone who can beat or find a way to its just part of nature. But when you try to define it boxing is basically who is the best at hitting and not getting hit but not in one fight over a career and looking at it like that currently knowone has found a way to do that to Floyd mayweather and he don't just win he completey beats people figuring out and dismantling people rarely outrun a foot wrong so currently Floyd is the best around BUT then is the argument of all time! PersonallY my favourite is Tyson in his prime on his day he beat everyone put in his way and destroyed people which in any era beats anyone possible Ali may have a chance possibly others but then with all the losses and complete shambles fights he goes down the list but in his prime untouchable. Then the next point there are people Chavez. Armstrong Robinson who had incredible records with unbelievable records still with losses and bad ends to career but in primes untouchable but it does become almost impossible to answer but currently Floyd is beating them all. Beat paquiao khan and a couple more he does start to make a strong case but who knows.

How A can beat B "in a p4p sense"? What does it mean? How can you say that e.g. Sugar Ray Robinson can beat Muhammad Ali?Chepppaaa wrote:easy answer.

Was Muhammad the greatest? Fighters pump themselves like few other sport figures do. Being the low self esteem guy in boxing seems about as profitable as being the skinny sumo wrestler.
Re: Is Floyd Mayweather really The Best Ever (TBE)?
I wanted a 3rd or 4th choice , like top 25 GOAT or top 50 GOAT. I voted negative, which I think was the author's intent.
Re: Is Floyd Mayweather really The Best Ever (TBE)?
fvck, he didn't fight Pacman, he's not the best! Period!
Re: Is Floyd Mayweather really The Best Ever (TBE)?
Of course it was. It's Tunney, and the topic at hand is about a Black Fighter.Tony1244 wrote:I wanted a 3rd or 4th choice , like top 25 GOAT or top 50 GOAT. I voted negative, which I think was the author's intent.
Floyd Mayweather could jump up 3 months from now, and beat Wladimir Klitschko, and all Tunney would have to say about it is how boring of a performance it was.
Re: Is Floyd Mayweather really The Best Ever (TBE)?
Personally NO he isn't the best ever but if a man believes himself to be all that to himself then I see no problem with him stating as much. Would you go around saying "I'm the Worst Ever?" Ali started self-promoting himself as the Greatest when he beat Liston, was Muhammad the Greatest then??
For me the best in boxing from a boxing standpoint is SRR with Joe Louis (preference only) as the second best but everyone is entitled to their opinion, I won't be surprised if there are some people who think Joe Calzaghe is the Best Ever.
You love attacking black people though

Pacman didn't fight him either!
With this kind of logic then all Mayweather had to do is have one fight and beat a man who has been knocked the f*ck out 3 times with 5 losses and he'd be considered TBE by you.

There are a lot of all time greats that don't have Pacman on their resume... Neither Sugar Rays fought Pacman, Duran never fought Pacman, nor Hagler, Hearns, and Armstrong.... Ali never fought Pacman... Hell JMM fought Manny four times, so he must be the best ever.cultus wrote:fvck, he didn't fight Pacman, he's not the best! Period!

He's not TBE, but he is an ATG.
He's also a top 5 130 lber.

No he's just obsessed with hating and boycotting black people, go to his website and you'll see it for yourself.
Re: Is Floyd Mayweather really The Best Ever (TBE)?
Well, at least 3/4 of the others he mentioned were black fighters. LOL. The question was obviously swayed to make Mayweather look bad.gilgamesh wrote:Of course it was. He is definitely an ATG and doubt he will ever really be considered TBE.
I don't think for a minute that Sugar Ray R, Sugar Ray L, Duran, Hearns or anyone else would have blown him away but he would have lost to at least one of them if they ever crossed paths. (Putting era's aside)
If he had shown one punch KO power throughout his career then more people would probably plead a case for him as TBE as all other boxes are ticked.

Re: Is Floyd Mayweather really The Best Ever (TBE)?
I think the problem is that he is boxing at a time when it is very difficult to make comparisons to boxing 20/30/40 years ago. With 4 major world bodies it is now much easier to win and hold on to a world title.
I personally cannot see how he could have beaten a peak Leonard, Hearns or Duran who all fought each other at or around their peak. But that is my opinion and I am sure Floyds fans will differ.

Re: Is Floyd Mayweather really The Best Ever (TBE)?
If ALL boxers had to be judged on a certain set of rules and criteria, and were to be eliminated via tournament (decided by experts), I think we would find Mayweather losing early on in the tournament to the likes of Henry Armstrong, Ray Robinson, Roberto Duran, Pernell Whitaker, Julio Cesar Chavez, Sam Langford, Harry Greb, and countless others whose resumes were made in a day and time when 15 rounders were the norm, that fights happened on the same day as weigh-ins, where money was far less than it is today, where gloves ranged from 3oz to 6oz in size, and where there was but one undisputed champion in each division and there were only 8 weight classes, etc.
No, he is not the best ever. Not in the P4P sense, let alone in the welterweight or junior middleweight sense. Fact of business, Manny Pacquiao has accomplished more in his career than Mayweather has. Juan Manuel Marquez, though he lost to Mayweather, I would argue is a top 5 lightweight champion. Which, in my view, is superior than anything Mayweather has accomplished. He could surpass Marciano's 49-0 record, or even Lopez's 50-0-1 record, etc. and he still won't be a top ten welterweight champion, or a top twenty pound for pound great.
