Paul Smith peaked about five years ago and would've never become champion had he had his shot then. Callum would stop Paul and would have a decent chance against Abraham, even now
Re: Cant believe Paul smith is getting a world title shot
And how did he get into the WBO rankings in the first place? He didn't do anything in the ring to earn the ranking, same as Butler hasn't, the only difference is that he mysteriously popped up in the rankings earlier than Butler did. There haven't been any suitable domestic opponents available, although he was scheduled to fight Blackledge before he pulled out and changed promoters, but they could have brought international opponents in or if he has to be in keep busy fights, at least fight more often than every 6 months, there's no shortage of shows in Liverpool and Matchroom put plenty on in the North West, so he could be boxing every 2 months if he wanted, even if the opponents were poor.jameswilson wrote:You do make excellent points early in your post, I obviously just disagree with a few of them. However Smith hasn't just popped up in the WBO rankings, he has been top 15 with them for ages, years, and actually been around about 8 or higher for ages, despite defeats. Am I saying it's right to rank him that high? Absolutely not, but that along with the BBBoC not being able to find suitable defences for him/the Fielding situation is why he has been in keep busy fights only. Also I'm not sure what point your making about Smith not being the best in Britain, it's not relevant at all. Carl Froch wasn't the best in the country when he got his shot at Pascal. And again I made the point earlier that Butler is the 4th best Bantamweight in Britain.expe wrote: Dodson and Quigley are no better than Sexton and Donnelly though and Butler won in better fashion than Smith, along with the wins over those fighters, Ali and Gonzalez, and being more active, make Butler more worthy of a world title shot than Smith. Even if the inter-continental titles aren't with the same body, fighting for them shows that the fighter is trying to do something to earn a world title shot and work towards one, not just sitting around fighting twice a year against journeymen like Smith's mostly done for the last few years. You say that Butler has just conveniently popped up in the IBF rankings, what about Smith with the WBO then? He hasn't won any sort of international title, let alone a WBO version, but has popped up at #3 in the rankings. He isn't the best super middleweight in Britain, or even his own family. In all honesty it could be argued that Paul Smith is the 6th/7th best super middleweight in the country and the 3rd best in Liverpool, but he seems to be getting a world title fight on the back of absolutely nothing in terms of victories or any substantial effort.

There making out he is one fight away from a world title as if tonight is an eliminator ,
This is against a Spanish super middle

I don't understand why sauerland are in talks with Eddie, Paul Smith is a free agent....
Fair play to paul getting his shot, I like the bloke. I really don't get the no.3 ranking at who tho, he's never fought for 1 of their belts.

Re: Cant believe Paul smith is getting a world title shot
After he gets smashed in two by AA he will come back down to brit level and probably get bashed by rocky. As a business man he is up there with the best in boxing but as a fighter he isnt the best in his home town. Fair play to him tho its not his fault a world title shot might of just landed on his lap.

That is how I felt when Purdy got a shot.thechump wrote: Fair play to him tho its not his fault a world title shot might of just landed on his lap.
However, with Smith - he has been moaning on and on for literally years about how he "deserves" a World Title shot, but I still can't work out why.

We haven't seen Callum fight anyone nearly good enough to suggest he could hang with Abraham right now.danconnollyeire wrote:Paul Smith peaked about five years ago and would've never become champion had he had his shot then. Given the calibre of Smith's ability he should be promoted by that Chester gypo GYPO, GYPO, GYPO, GYPO promotional firm that you hang to the coattails of.thepocketrocket wrote:I find it insane that Smith has got a shot whilst Crolla is still waiting for his

There's another that isn't deserving of a world title fight, IMO lucky to get the decision against Rees and failed to beat Derry Mathews twice, but in some people's view deserves a world title fight.thepocketrocket wrote:I find it insane that Smith has got a shot whilst Crolla is still waiting for his

Beat Rees perfectly straight after Rees had faced Broner, and beat Murray who has faced Rios.....expe wrote:There's another that isn't deserving of a world title fight, IMO lucky to get the decision against Rees and failed to beat Derry Mathews twice, but in some people's view deserves a world title fight.thepocketrocket wrote:I find it insane that Smith has got a shot whilst Crolla is still waiting for his

Calm down, lad. That was in no way meant to be a 'racist' comment, and it's ridiculous in modern society that it is classed as such. I'll put your unfounded accusations down to the heat. Now go and find your water pistol and cool off in your paddling pool.thepocketrocket wrote:Actually work for them...but calling people gypo's is racist and action should be takenBrian Moore wrote:Given the calibre of Smith's ability he should be promoted by that Chester gypo promotional firm that you hang to the coattails of.thepocketrocket wrote:I find it insane that Smith has got a shot whilst Crolla is still waiting for his

Anyway, as you 'work' for this lot, I reckon you'll be promoting him in a WBF 'world' title shot in about 16 months time. Say it aint so, brother?

I think I probably know you, as from nowhere you came on here giving me heat after 56 posts. As I have no reason to engage with someone who started giving me shit from nowhere I will leave you to go about your business.
Adios 'Brian Moore', whoever you are
Re: Cant believe Paul smith is getting a world title shot
Rees got smashed up by Broner, who isn't all that anyway and Rees was never really world class at any weight, Crolla scraped home on a questionable decision. Murray was beaten up for 11 rounds by Rios, that was 2 1/2 years earlier, he'd fought 6 rounds in between and had been taken apart by Kevin Mitchell before he fought Rios, only getting the shot because Mitchell had visa issues. Neither of those are world class, at this stage I'd say both are domestic level fighters, around the same level as Crolla. No disrespect to Derry, but if you can't beat him, especially after having 2 goes, you shouldn't be anywhere near fighting for world titles. Crolla should fight someone who's above domestic level, somewhere close to their best and hasn't been inactive before he should even be considered for a world title fight.thepocketrocket wrote:Beat Rees perfectly straight after Rees had faced Broner, and beat Murray who has faced Rios.....expe wrote:There's another that isn't deserving of a world title fight, IMO lucky to get the decision against Rees and failed to beat Derry Mathews twice, but in some people's view deserves a world title fight.thepocketrocket wrote:I find it insane that Smith has got a shot whilst Crolla is still waiting for his

Well I think you and me both know why he popped up in the rankings when he did. The point i am making is that these guys have fought for world titles in recent memory, and you can call the Rees fight questionable all you want, Crolla won it fair and square. Remember, Rees had only vacated his euro championship and all.
To call him undeserving of a world title shot is hyperbole. I would argue that he is more deserving than most of todays challengers, considering the proliferation of belts

Well I'v no idea why either. Possibly he saw the potential for shows in Liverpool with his brothers and thought there was more money with those than with Queensbury.expe wrote:I do wonder why he left VVarren though, if he wanted the Abraham fight, surely staying with someone who has great links with the WBO would have been the smart move, if Abraham doesn't make the voluntary against him, Fwank could probably get him the mandatory position, or an easy fight in Liverpool as a final eliminator.
Re: Cant believe Paul smith is getting a world title shot
Abraham is beatable but should have enough to take Smith no problem.
Loads of people get chances who don't deserve it but Paul Smith legit thinks he does deserve it....
If he was European champion then fair enough
Saw the Third Steiglitz fight werent the best but Abraham is as tough as they come
He'll see this as an easy fight before Kessler later in the year.

Re: Cant believe Paul smith is getting a world title shot
That is possible, but Liam's stayed put and he was scheduled to box on a show with him and Stephen before they moved. Fwank's investing heavily in Liverpool at the moment as well with Butler, Mathews and Liam Smith and also in the North West in general, he's been signing up loads of young fighters recently from the amateurs and small hall promoters.jameswilson wrote:Well I'v no idea why either. Re: Cant believe Paul smith is getting a world title shot
Plenty of people thought Rees won that fight, Crolla was far from a clear winner. It's not hyperbole at all, claiming he is worthy of a shot is hyperbole, he's done nothing to earn one, regardless of whether others that have got that opportunity have. If he can beat Marsili or someone at a similar level, then we can start talking world title fights, until then, he's nothing more than a domestic level fighter on a decent run of form at that level.thepocketrocket wrote:The point i am making is that these guys have fought for world titles in recent memory, and you can call the Rees fight questionable all you want, Crolla won it fair and square.
