Oh that's right, to give him a confidence boost...he might as well have just hit a bag in the middle of the ring for all the good that actually did. Fights like this are why fans turn away from the sport.

Every promoter would put him in with this kind of guy. Frank Buglioni will be in with a knockover, John Murray will have an easy comeback. The only example I can think in the UK of a fighter coming into a tough fight after a KO loss is David Price. And how did that go?expe wrote:First fight at a new weight, off the back of a stoppage defeat, gets him a world ranking, good confidence builder and allowed him to grow into the weight against a smaller cruiserweight. Doesn't need to be 50-50 to be a worthy match up just doesn't need to be a former world champion against an absolutely shocking opponent like that who was 39, chinny and blown up.jameswilson wrote: Don't ever take up promoting for god sake. tbf I think Corbin had taken enough, so fair stoppage. Up to that point though I'm not sure Cleverley looked like he had much CW poke in his punch..gilgamesh wrote:Good performance for Cleverly, it was another particularly quick stoppage, but it seemed inevitable nonetheless.
Nevertheless good Cleverly looks good at Cruiserweight. I can see him having some success there.

Because Buglioni and Murray are former world champions? Who were dropping from losing to a very good fighter to fight to an absolutely turgid foe?jameswilson wrote: Every promoter would put him in with this kind of guy. Re: Cardiff RBR
That was far too cordial for me haha. Cleverly was very respecful. Bellew being a gobshite as per usual
Re: Cardiff RBR
It gives him the time to grow into the weight and build muscle, throwing him in with a full blown cruiserweight was potential suicide, a risk like that was simply not worth taking. That will move him into the WBA Top 10 and will probably move him up the WBO rankings, giving them the option of making it either a WBA or WBO eliminator when he fights Bellew.iamasadlittleboy wrote:First fight at a new weight and he fights a bloated Light Heavyweight? He already had a world ranking (WBA #12 and WBO #12 both at Cruiserweight)
Could have had him in with a British Cruiserweight and he'd have had a better work out.

Murray and Buglioni won't be fighting guys ranked as highly as Corbin in their respective decisions. They will face guys at a suitable level below them that they can look good.iamasadlittleboy wrote:Because Buglioni and Murray are former world champions? Couldn't he have fought a domestic cruiserweight like China Clarke, Neil Dawson or someone?

Is Liverpool the home of boxing?
Re: Cardiff RBR
I don't think it would've made any difference to the outcome of the fight if Corbin had been allowed to stick around so I won't argue with you, but this explains why so many of you guys think the Arreola-Stiverne 2 stoppage was too late. You guys are used to referees jumping the gun, and stopping fights very early. Basically at the first or second sign of a guy being stunned.Final round wrote:tbf I think Corbin had taken enough, so fair stoppage. I think he believes in himself though which isn't bad but he'll never be a world champion at any weight.

That's very true. I've only seen Tony a few times, but he's never really impressed me much. I think Cleverly could take him.ShadrachSimmo wrote:He talks a good game but his performances have rarely matched his words.Final round wrote:Christ Tony can be a real whingebag. Change the feckin record.

Ranked as highly as Corbin? fornicate me where was Corbin ranked?...Boxrec had him 130 or something...if Buglioni faces some one 100 places below him then he deserves stick too.jameswilson wrote:Murray and Buglioni won't be fighting guys ranked as highly as Corbin in their respective decisions. Everytime Bellew opens his mouth it make me support Clev even more...
You would have thought after getting rinsed by Stevenson that he would have learnt some humility...
