Referee for Froch v Groves
Referee for Froch v Groves
I'm reading all this in the papers that the referee for the Frouch v Groves fight will not be British, I think this is a disgrace he should be british, just saw Jack Reiss from the US was rejected by Eddie Hearn, good job his not that good, loves himself.
We have some great referees in this country who could do this fight, forget the big so called names like Ian John Lewis, Richie Davies, Howard Foster. They are more well known because they are in the lime light for making mistakes.
We have great refs who don't get noticed because they just get in there referee and get the job done without any problems. I would go for Steve Gray, Marcus McDonald, Micheal Alexandra, Victor Loughan. very rare you see any of these making mistakes. All good refs who would not let us down.
This fight needs to be all british to show the world we are very good at what we do and the last fight was a one off.
Look at the ref from the states for Frouch v Bute he stopped it, Eddie Hearn gets in the ring, then he starts to count and this was one of there so called US Ref's, he wouldn't get a B license in England.

Re: Referee for Frouch v Groves
Vic Loughlan is a Great ref , like you say very rarely notice him or any mistakes , although there was the controversy with the Framton fight and the count but that was more to do with Framptons opponent.
Ian John Lewis im afraid cant say the same about him ,
i dont think well see any Ref jumping in too soon in this fight due to the last one,
who knows though

It`s not a one off though is it. We have had some shocking early stoppages and we have had some that should have been stopped but were not due to the home fighter being in trouble.boxfan3 wrote:and the last fight was a one off.
Khan v Prescott should have been stopped after the first knockdown, Cleverely was actually held up and walked back to his corner.
Mike Ortega would be a cracking choice. I have seen him ref some great fights in the proper manner.
I have no problem with a foreign ref, as long as they pick a good one.

Agreed. That's what I said, I don't mind a foreign ref.DougieCampbell wrote:Victor Louglin is one of the best referees in the World.
Re: Referee for Froch v Groves
it would be hard to find a british ref that wasn't in some way connected to to eddie hearn froch's promotor ..a ref is like other jobs if you piss off the guy that pays you he's not going to use you again .
Re: Referee for Froch v Groves
If you want an experienced ref who certainly won't stop the fight too soon then you can't look past Steve Smoger. Hopefully he won't kiss the winner either.

Or punch the loser.
Or punch the loser.
Re: Referee for Froch v Groves
frank cappuccio would be great
Kenny Bayless or Tony Weeks would be excellent refs for the fight.

As much as I would love Bayless to do the fight. Has he ever reffed fights out of Vegas?Glass Joe wrote:frank cappuccio would be great![]()

He reffed Vitali Klitschko v Kevin Johnson in Switzerland but 99% of the time he works in Vegas with the rare appointment in Mexico.brian13 wrote:As much as I would love Bayless to do the fight. Has he ever reffed fights out of Vegas?Glass Joe wrote:frank cappuccio would be great![]()

Ive gotta agree with the Victor Loughlin fans,he's one of the best in the world and defo the best in the UK
no doubt the only time he(or any other great ref) will get any exposure is when they make a rare mistake,I like Richie Davies too and Howard Foster

Nope, no British bum refs are required IMO
I don't want anybody with even the slightest link to Matchroom anywhere near this fight - especially after Georgie announced that he's going to run off to Sauerland with the belt if he wins..Hearn and his daddy must be seriously pissed.

From what I understand, normally the BBBoC appoints the ref, not the promoter.
Re: Referee for Froch v Groves
Money talks and with the BBBofC they are taking alot out of this fight between Froch and Groves. Hearn will be able to call the shots on most things id imagine. Also after the whole Haye v Chisora card they realise its not very hard to just bypass them and use someone else.

That may be correct and I agree with Steves point.robster wrote:stevedoc wrote:it would be hard to find a british ref that wasn't in some way connected to to eddie hearn froch's promotor ..a ref is like other jobs if you piss off the guy that pays you he's not going to use you again .

I'm unfamiliar with the name ,Which was the last WT he reffed?Parson Cross wrote:Charlie Fitch - subject to approval by the IBF and the Board.

Re: Referee for Froch v Groves
Cotto-Trout, December 2012. This will be his 7th world title world fight, relatively inexperienced, refereed 221 professional fights since his debut in April 2001. Seems a bit of an unusual appointment, but if both sides have agreed then I can't see many problems arising from it, if he's been handpicked by Matchroom without Groves' consent, I have no doubt that he will kick up a fuss about it.Final round wrote:I'm unfamiliar with the name ,Which was the last WT he reffed?Parson Cross wrote:Charlie Fitch - subject to approval by the IBF and the Board.

Agreed by both fighters mate. A few were crossed off before they got to Charlie boy.
Re: Referee for Froch v Groves
I dont recall richie davies making a mistake in fact he should be the 3rd man in the ring for this fight imo, the biggest fight for some time in this country monitored by the best ref in the country. Failing that, smogger has been reffing in europe recently.boxfan3 wrote:I'm reading all this in the papers that the referee for the Frouch v Groves fight will not be British, I think this is a disgrace he should be british, just saw Jack Reiss from the US was rejected by Eddie Hearn, good job his not that good, loves himself.

And Froch has gave out regularly about the way he reffed the Ward fight. Froch's side would not approve Smoger.Finn wrote:Failing that, smogger has been reffing in europe recently.
