Cheers Expe. I watched Cotto fight but can't picture the ref which is probably a good thingexpe wrote:Cotto-Trout, December 2012. This will be his 7th world title world fight, relatively inexperienced, refereed 221 professional fights since his debut in April 2001. Seems a bit of an unusual appointment, but if both sides have agreed then I can't see many problems arising from it, if he's been handpicked by Matchroom without Groves' consent, I have no doubt that he will kick up a fuss about it.Final round wrote:I'm unfamiliar with the name ,Which was the last WT he reffed?Parson Cross wrote:Charlie Fitch - subject to approval by the IBF and the Board.

Shame that Smoger is one of the best refs going.brian13 wrote:And Froch has gave out regularly about the way he reffed the Ward fight. Froch's side would not approve Smoger.Finn wrote:Failing that, smogger has been reffing in europe recently.

Pat Russell. Should get the job.
He is the best Ref I've worked with. He is the best Ref on the IBF roster in my opinion.

I imagine it's hard enough to come up with a game plan to beat the world class fighter throwing punches at you without needing a game plan for the referree.Viktor Vaughn wrote:Foster wasn't a problem, they should have known that he hovers then steps in and worked on something for if and when Groves got ragged and appeared in trouble. Groves fought well, but it wasn't exactly a strategically sound performance once he'd picked up those early rounds. Froch will box better next time, Groves needs to adjust as things develop or risk losing again in similar circumstances.
Re: Referee for Froch v Groves
I understand what you are saying and feel that a boxer shouldn't have to have a referee and their tendencies in their mind in a world title bout when someone is trying to knock their block off.Viktor Vaughn wrote:It's not a separate game plan, just good awareness.palooka wrote:I imagine it's hard enough to come up with a game plan to beat the world class fighter throwing punches at you without needing a game plan for the referree.Viktor Vaughn wrote:Foster wasn't a problem, they should have known that he hovers then steps in and worked on something for if and when Groves got ragged and appeared in trouble. Re: Referee for Froch v Groves
Personally i think although stopped early it was the best result possible, it has now lead to a mega fight rematch. Groves and Froch will be making some serious cheddar out of this and its great for boxing in general and especially in Britain. Every casual sports fan in the country is talking about this fight.
I also think if the fight hadnt been stopped early groves would have been stopped shortly after and he wouldnt be getting this extra payday and opportunity to fight to a different game plan.
I expect froch to jump on groves from the outset and rough him up early to take that early advantage away.

Re: Referee for Froch v Groves
This fight was made for steve smoger. Guarentee if hes the ref it will have a conclusive ending with not a bit of controversy, he does not stop fights early and gives a fighter enough chance to fight his way back
Re: Referee for Froch v Groves
Should of given Kenny Bayless the gig. I think he's possibly the best referee out there. Smoger is also good in terms of letting fights go on but sometimes lets them go on too long and you have the opposite where a fighter can end up seriously hurt.
Re: Referee for Froch v Groves
True about smoger but if you ask both fighters which way they would want it to go I think they would both prefer to be out cold than stopped early and this is a fight than demands a conclusive ending.columbo wrote:Should of given Kenny Bayless the gig. Re: Referee for Froch v Groves
True but then if a fighter ends up really seriously injured ie Mclellan or worse then you'll get people going ballistic that it was stopped too late. It's a pretty impossible job really. Saying that though, some of the british referee type early stoppages are pretty scandalous.rio wrote:True about smoger but if you ask both fighters which way they would want it to go I think they would both prefer to be out cold than stopped early and this is a fight than demands a conclusive ending.columbo wrote:Should of given Kenny Bayless the gig. Bit more here about both sides concerns - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/others ... uling.html
McCracken comes across as very arrogant in that article, only one side of the story of course, but to claim that you can't call Carl Froch dirty because he's been an ambassador for the sport is plain arrogant for me.

I'd be very surprised if Bayless wasn't offered the fight if he was able to take it. Someone mentioned on here he only seems to referee fights in Nevada which gives me an inkling he may not have a passport.columbo wrote:Should of given Kenny Bayless the gig. Yeah could be that. That or he just doesnt like travelling to referee fights which could also be a possibility I guess.jameswilson wrote:I'd be very surprised if Bayless wasn't offered the fight if he was able to take it. Wasn't it Marcus McDonnell that bottled it when it came to counting khan out against Limond ?boxfan3 wrote: We have great refs who don't get noticed because they just get in there referee and get the job done without any problems. I would go for Steve Gray, Marcus McDonald, Micheal Alexandra, Victor Loughan. very rare you see any of these making mistakes. All good refs who would not let us down. .
