What next for Froch and Groves
Re: What next for Froch and Groves
It's all about percentage chance and therefore actual, accurate and realistic chance. If you were either a bookmaker or a professional punter you would understand exactly where I'm coming from. If you were either of those and you didn't understand the principal you'd go bust within a month or two.
How many x 10? Would Mayweather beat Guerrero 100 times out of 100? Even if Guerrero wins just one of the 100 bouts that makes the 100% certainty of a Mayweather win flawed and inaccurate.[/quote]
Actually, it is all about you being a tiny prick.

I'll leave Ian to it. I think I explained myself clearly enough in my previous post ...... ![[icon_wink.gif] ;-)](./images/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif)
Now time for bed. Just returned from a very long night in Wembley!

Re: What next for Froch and Groves
I don't care who either fighter takes on next, I will be watching.
I could see Froch going after Stevenson. That would be an appropriate challenge and a winnable fight.
I could see Groves v Abraham and (if he wins) then Ward.

Re: What next for Froch and Groves
I'd favor Froch against Stevenson. I would love to see that but it seems unlikely to happen. Wins over Degale and Chavez would be good ways to go out for Froch.
As for Groves, I think he should have a routine win type of fight then challenge Abraham, and I think he'd win that.

I think Groves will get stopped by Abrahams and then be done at international level. Tough game!

Re: What next for Froch and Groves
Although it's recorded as a loss, I think there are a couple of psychological aspects that might make a rematch less attractive to Froch: he wasn't stopped; and he had his moments.DMA1987 wrote:Do you not get the impression he is comfortable with Ward being better?
As it is, he can look to beat Chavez, and then claim later on that he finished his career in better form than he faced Ward in. He'd end up in a good position to say he could've beaten Ward in a rematch. It's a rematch I'd really like to see, win, lose or draw.
I'd like to see Groves going to America and keeping his foot on the pedal. Same as Benn did after his loss to Watson.
Re: What next for Froch and Groves
Go and have a fornicating war with Chavez Jr in Vegas and make some real coin, then a rematch and a few more massive pay days then fornicate it off, stay clear of Ward.
Re: What next for Froch and Groves
Froch v ward in Vegas ! He has to try to avenge that defeat, of course it's a massive ask but if he won that he goes down with an almost perfect record and one of the best British fighters ever !
Re: What next for Froch and Groves
Obviously, some rebuilding and rethinking time for George.
He's loyal to Fitzpatrick and enjoys working with him but I got the sense in the lead-up to this fight that not everyone in the trade feels that Paddy is the right choice. Froch in particular was pretty damning about Fitzpatrick's supposed over-reliance on mind-games and hinted that they did not work and actually put the pressure right back on Groves. At the time I just put this down to Froch wanting to win 'the war of words' before the fight; but I think there's more than a grain of truth in there.
When a fighter has a huge loss like that there's almost invariably a review of his trainer's credentials: has he done the right job both before and during the fight? But I think that the way the Froch corner operated was more focussed and McCracken was calling things just right and more often. Paddy was not out of his league out there (that's unfair on a guy who knows his business) but I sensed that he was not getting his message across or seeing the way Froch was tightening the noose.
I'd love to see George go back to Booth - they're apparently on good terms - and for Adam just to do the training job and let the Sauerlands do the promoting. He can come again, the talent is there and hopefully the confidence will come back.
As for Carl; a big night in Vegas is what he's always dreamed about and I hope that he either gets Ward or Chavez Junior on the other side of the ring. I am not too interested in a third fight with Kessler or trying or taking on Bika.

Chavez JR in vegas for froch in my opinion, if he wins that in good fashion then go for the ward rematch.

Fancy going for a pint later Ian? You seem a right laugh.

Re: What next for Froch and Groves
In an ideal world I would want to see Froch face Golovkin in the US, maybe after GGG takes a tuneup at 168. I think Carl can beat him. GGG won't have faced anything like Carl. It's a mouthwatering prospect.
Alternatively I would like to see Froch move up and beat Stevenson, which I have no doubt he would.
As for Groves, he should have a long break and then return, rebuild and come again. I would fancy him over Abraham. But first he should have a couple of tuneups.

Where's the maths lesson gone? I was enjoying that.
Re: What next for Froch and Groves
How well-known is Froch in Britain?
Is he a celebrity who is known by most people regardless of whether they follow boxing, or is his profile restricted mainly to those who follow the sport?

Re: What next for Froch and Groves
Froch is reasonably well known to general sports fans and has some crossover appeal, he has been on a dancing programme and has a very photogenic model partner. His stock will most likely rise after last night, the bout was well promoted. I'd say he's as well known as Joe Calzaghe was but not as famous as Henry Cooper.

Golovkin would seriously hurt Carl...Ward outboxes him for fun.
It should be Chavez Jnr. High reward, minimum risk. Then he can retire as a British boxing great. Not bad for a man who was taken to points by Matthew Barney!

Re: What next for Froch and Groves
I know its a major outsider but I wouldn't rule out Hopkins over the pond then retire.
Re: What next for Froch and Groves
Kessler is with sauerland too so maybe a fight with groves at some point would be a good sell if one of them gets a title, Abraham seems ripe for the taking now and I did read he might only have another two fights so maybe paul smith first then Kessler or Groves?
As for froch I think a fight with Chavez in Vegas would be a good fight as froch wants to fight in Vegas, I don't have much interest in him facing Ward or bika. Golovkin would be a great fight for the fans but is that going to be a mega money fight at this point?

Re: What next for Froch and Groves
If froch goes after ward, for me its all about timing and really should take it as soon as possible.
Get in there before he is any older, he's on a high and off a good result.
Get a rest, have another camp like this one in preparation then give ward everything he has.
If he comes up short again, at least he gave it every chance.
Then take a couple pay days against chavez and degale.
If he takes the chavez fight first, thats a potential war he doesn't need in the build up and another 6 montgs spent. I can't see that as being beneficial if he does really want the ward fight again.
And it would be a real shame if he never at least attempted to avenge that defeat. Even if he has little chance, he has to at least try.

Re: What next for Froch and Groves
From an all-action point of view I don't know why anyone wouldn't want to see Froch-Chavez Jr. That's the most fun-to-watch fight I can think of in boxing at the moment.
From a legacy point of view, I guess Froch has to go after Ward again. But honestly, I couldn't give a sh!t about Andre Ward. I have no time for people who fight once a year (if that). And he seems to think the world begins in Cali and ends in NJ. So if Froch doesn't fight him again I won't hold it against him.

Re: What next for Froch and Groves
I called for Froch v Chavez before the second Groves fight was made and it's still the one I want. It would be a brilliant watch. For the casuals on this side of the pond it will hold less appeal than Degale but it would sell big in the US.

Re: What next for Froch and Groves
I think the main reason Ward isn't fighting is because of a lengthy legal battle with his promoter. But I agree, I have no interest in Ward unless he fights GGG or Kovalev.greenyox3 wrote:From an all-action point of view I don't know why anyone wouldn't want to see Froch-Chavez Jr. That's the most fun-to-watch fight I can think of in boxing at the moment.

I dont think he would. GGG is there to be hit aswell. He's not exactly a defensive wizard.thepocketrocket wrote:Golovkin would seriously hurt Carl...Ward outboxes him for fun.

Golovkin punches through walls...Froch blocks everything with his chin. Whilst most people are blown away by GGG, I worry Froch is so tough he takes to omuch.columbo wrote:I dont think he would. Not much point in having lots of cash if you are unable to spend it
