I put £15 on Groves and £5 for a 1st round win (33-1). I think that Carl will have a diminished punch resistance - if the reports of Eubank Jnr dropping him in sparring are true, Groves hits 3 times as hard as Eubank Jnr.

If I'm wrong I'll sulk for half hour and then come on here and kiss GOmez' arse.

Froch late KO in another highly competitive fight. I suspect he will likely be down on the scorecards at the time he wins.

George does seem to mark up very easily though, which is obviously going to be a big worry…

My instincts are telling me that Carl will stop him again but, looking at it like a robot, Groves on points is the best value bet at the moment.

I have gone for Groves,Froch didn't underestimate him last time,he just met his match, fighters don't improve at 37 years of age, also they don't suddenly change style,I think Groves will have had a better more settled training camp and win on points, each of his fights since Degale he has shown improvement, certainly in punching power and this for me is the reason i'm picking him, also Froch has done things differently this time, training away from home and seeing a shrink,he clearly thinks it's his fault that he performed badly last time.George is just better than him in almost every department,he just needs to prove he can come through a few tough moments and win, which i think he will do tonight

Phenomenal punches landed on Froch in the sixth round, Carls chin is ( was ? ) one of the best - because the Hammersmith Hammer is one serious puncher

Those rumours haven't been heard since. I would have thought it would have been bigger (phenomenal) news had eubank jr dropped him. Especially with the guards on. Plus, he doesn't really strike you as a guy who would keep that quiet does he?

Well at least I go the type of result right. Always thought Carl would've stopped him - just as I said he would have if the first fight had've been allowed to continue.

Groves has proved that he can't handle Froch's power!

The two fights are a tale of two punches.

Fight 1 - Had there been another minute left of round one I'm certain Groves would've stopped Froch, Froch had gone and needed the minute in the corner.

Fight 2 - The fight was evenly balanced (different people with different scoring) until Froch delivered that one punch that destroyed Groves.

A minute here, a punch there. Small margins at the top sometimes. Froch is the one who has benefited on both occasions but that's boxing.

The one thing I will say looking at both fights as a whole, if there was a third fight you would always be waiting for Groves to go down. Groves has the one punch power to beat Froch but you get the feeling that six times out of ten Froch's superior strength would come through.

Yep. I was getting a slight Henry Cooper vibe from Groves in the buildup, but I always knew he couldn't afford to take a big shot.

I thought Father Time was sauntering up Carl's driveway. That was my main mistake.

Groves should of gone for it more from round 1 IMO.
The causious start to me proved that he must of been feeling it late in the first fight and was saving something this time. If your going to catch froch it has to be early, catch him cold ! It was a fairly close fight up until the knockdown but I get the feeling groves will be kicking himself for not stepping up the pace early.

Did you go mate?

It was a very cagey fight but a great finish, his legs folded like an ironing board.

I think I went froch ko9 in the other thread. Is he really going to fight degale now or is he only going to be happy with PPV stadium fights?

Yes. Was it a mistake to wait until the sixth to turn it on and.. has he regressed under Paddy Fitzpatrick.

What a peculiar thing to say. You're suggesting that if the rules of boxing were different, Groves would have beaten him in round one of the first fight?

No, he's saying had Groves knocked Carl down earlier with more time left in the round he thinks Groves would have stopped him. Obviously you can never say anything positive in boxing, but Carl was hurt badly.

Good post.

Although this one was close i got the impression that froch was the one who had the better game plan where as groves plan seemed to be - jab move and look for one big KO punch that may or may not finish Froch and may or may not present itself.

I dont think froch was ever looking for a KO punch; he was looking to time groves so he could land and build up an accumulative effect, break him down so that more openings were available as the fight went on until he could jump on him and smash him up. Im sure theres plenty of fighters in the division that wouldn't have been stopped with that shot that was just a bonus for froch it was a decent punch for sure but it wasnt out and out devastating, i dont think Groves is chinny but i dont think he takes a great shot either.

Bear in mind i havent watched the replay and i was in the pub drinking from 5pm yesterday to watch the fight so my judgement could be skewed

Believe or not I couldn't get tickets, had a few mates come over, we all cheered for groves so was a little disappointed ! Hope your ok ?

Ah yeah, sounds more feasible!

Still, what happened, happened. It's not particularly healthy to make such suppositions in boxing, because it can all change with one punch. Even in the second fight (on Sat), if Groves had covered up with his left instead of going with the counter, he might have gone on to win. We'll never know!
